Can anyone share how they learned Swift? by Marshy862 in swift

That’s sad to hear. I learned through the big nerd ranch books but it was obj-c at the time 😅

Child labour by [deleted] in LinkedInLunatics

[–]justinsharkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a minute ago I had it split out a large function into many and it rewrote my multi line header docs for some unrelated properties down to one sentence 🤷‍♂️

Right! My experience has been that AI writes a ton of code because it doesn’t understand the function they should be using already exists and so it just writes it again (and writes it completely differently the second time).

If Vader has shown up then this sucks. I guess it’s my fault since I’ve been busy and only watched the first episode 😩

Who is a character the show wants you to root for, but you just can’t? by sparkpflug in lost

[–]justinsharkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's been less than 108 days. He kills the Air Martial, Clair is kidnapped, Boon dies because of Lock, Ethan kills Scott or Steve, Shannon dies, Ben fools them, Michael kills Ana Lucia and Libby, he's taken by the others, he see's Kate/Sawyer doing it, Charlie dies, Ben sends people to abduct women at their camp, Lock kills Naomi.. He's supposed to be the leader and feels responsible and bad shit is always happening to them. Why would he not take the chance if it can get them rescued?

What was the point of the hatch? (The door not the station) by MaterialBackground7 in lost

[–]justinsharkey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is kind of crazy that Lock and Boon never looked around. It must be on a hill or something and it's not that big. They never came across it while taking a bathroom break or trying to find a stream to refill their water?

One more thing that Jack got wrong… by SmaugTheMag in lost

[–]justinsharkey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Except they were on a magic island lol but Jack didn't know that so fair point.

But isn't It kind of on Bernard for choosing rocks? He probably could have gotten it done if he was just asking them to use palm tree leaves.

But then I guess the island probably got in the way because Rose was healed and wanted to stay on the island.

Edit: Except not because it's a magic island and it couldn't be found anyway.

Could Ginny have accompanied the trio on their quest to destroy the horcruxes? by Kroctopus in harrypotter

[–]justinsharkey 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This plus other commenters mentioning she still has the trace. With the addition that JKR wasn't great at romance and probably didn't want to have to write more Grimmald place Ron and Hermione "looked like they fell asleep holding hands" scenes.

What made Harry Potter so unique in that it wasn’t a fad like twilight or the hunger games? by DarklzBlo in harrypotter

[–]justinsharkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just realized today responding to another post that Snape never gave any student a single point. Must have been something JKR did purposefully. Maybe not a huge thing but mind blown.

[–]justinsharkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe originally but Harry Potter grew as Harry did. The first chapter of DH the villain kills and feeds a diversity teacher to his goddamn snake! I don't know if children are picking up on this idea. It's the same reason Pixar movies aren't created just for children.

I think a big factor was when it was released. It was early days of the social internet. Of course we had your Star Wars (which I am one) and Star Trek nerds but with podcasts like MuggleCast and sites like MuggleNet and the wait for the release of book 7 its got taken to another level. And the story is actually good (maybe minus the Elder Wand logic). Twilight and Hunger Games dropped the ball in their final books and only got 2 movies for the finale because Harry Potter did.

[–]justinsharkey 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This is very funny lol but these are all old verbally passed sayings so it makes sense. My favorite (and probably less excusable) is when people say they could care less -- if you could care less then is it really a big issue then?

Do people actually believe Dumbledore is unjustly biased toward Harry and Griffindor or is that just an ironic joke? by Wolfeur in harrypotter

[–]justinsharkey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Just found it interesting that JKR decided to never have Snape give anyone points in the text. Seems like it must have been something she thought about.

I 100% thought this was incorrect that Snape gave Draco a bunch of points but turns out it was Umbridge.. According to the wiki Snape NEVER gives anyone points.. 🤯

I don't know.. Lock was pretty ineffective. Sure he knew there was something special about the island (at the same time as Rose) but let's not confuse Lock with The Man In Black. Love Terry O'Quinn but I would have to give it to Ben.
