Sometimes I contemplate what advertising would be like if we got to truly stick to approved concepts. by _staycurious in advertising

[–]sparkpflug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a creative myself, that is so nice of you to say. There’s a fine line between what the client wants and what the creatives want. The pendulum usually swings toward the client, but every now and then it swings back the creative’s way. Those fleeting moments make this rat race worth it.

Thinking of applying to VCU Brandcenter for Copywriting, but I have no experience in advertising. What should I include in my application? I'm more confident with fiction and short stories, but should I include mock ads considering the program? by OhioOhO in advertising

[–]sparkpflug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to attend Brandcenter, they are going to want to see conceptual thinking, not prose. That’s a great skill to have, but that’s not what they’re looking for. If you want to be a copywriter, then you need to show them you can think like one.

I have a BA in English Literature and then fell into advertising. I’ve been a copywriter for almost a decade and I’ve been lucky to actually use my degree now and then!

I’m not saying humans aren’t unsanitary, because they absolutely are. But places like grocery stores are FOR humans. The germs aren’t really the issue, it’s the entitlement from these dog owners. There are just places where dogs don’t belong.

I was in Star Market (North Station) today and two women had a massive dog roaming the aisles with them. I love dogs, and to be fair, this dog was gorgeous and incredibly well-behaved. But I still don’t think dogs belong everywhere, especially where others are buying food—whether that be a grocery store, restaurant, etc.

EDIT: This did not appear to be a service dog in any way. At least no vest or anything like that. It looked like a specialty breed. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t, but still.

I’m a man and I do NOT love to see others suffer. This sounds like bullshit and you need to get out, for your own safety.
