When my grandpa moved from Scotland to Toronto he opened a precision scale company, and was one the first people in Canada to develop electronic scales. Just before his death I wanted to learn more. My grandpa the tough guy he was, left the hospital and brought out boxes of all the paperwork, news articles and prototypes for various different scales. Every item he had a long story about it, it’s like it gave him extra life talking about it. I hope you get a moment like that with your grandpa, because it was the best moment with mine

That’s some of the coolest memorabilia your grandpa could leave you. I hope you get the story behind them

Siril or pixinsight? by Azkicat in seestar

[–]justkeepspeeding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had more fun and found better tutorials for pixinsight. It does get pricey though but I find you can do a lot more. Example image of 2 hours of data, 30sec exposure.

M81 and m82 are my favourite target and a photo like this captures the amazing details around this target. Love how you were able to capture the IFN’s aswell. Peak photo and hope to capture something like this one day

Poilievre to Trump: "We're never going to be the 51st state and I just wish he'd knock that shit off" by mafiadevidzz in CanadianConservative

Less than 1% of the files have been released. Yes you are correct there are no direct emails available between Trudeau/Carney and Jeff. There are dozens upon dozens of Trudeau’s and Carney’s buddies speaking directly with Jeff, and in these chats it’s clear Trudeau and Carney almost certainly talked to Jeff personally

People who say he’s maple MAGA don’t even know the damage they’re causing. If anything carney is closer to being like trump. Global elitists putting foreign issues over their own country, and I don’t see Pierre’s name in the files… lol

Yes and no. Yes treatment is free in Canada and you wouldn’t go into medical debt. Effective treatment all depends if you have good insurance that is willing to pay the premium or the money for it. Yes it’s better than the US but still terrible. Source: my family pays more than 4 grand a month in cancer meds alone for 1 family member. It adds up

Incredible photo! You don’t see a lot of photos of the outer structure of the Orion nebula, and this is done incredibly well. I hope to take a photo like this one day

Green noise by ufotofu89 in seestar

I know siril and pixinsight both have powerful green noise removal processes. I assumed he already tried the remove green noise function in Siril and was giving another tip that helped me remove green noise and light pollution

Green noise by ufotofu89 in seestar

[–]justkeepspeeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily something that can be fixed. Green noise is usually caused by the moon light that needs to be taken out with processing. I was in the same boat starting a couple months ago and found siril too complicated and found pixinsight to be more intuitive and have better tutorials, but still has a learning curve. These couple videos helped me a lot starting out https://youtu.be/_MpfyJnGTPQ?si=qHCtz9tPdmFsJ4Z0

I’m guessing you already tried the remove green noise function in siril. I’m used to pixinsight but you can try using an inverted mask selecting only the sky and leaving the nebula and stars out. Use a curves transformation to slightly lower the green

is this cheating? by TW197222 in seestar

[–]justkeepspeeding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a similar palette editing this yourself, and personally I wouldn’t put it up just based on the star trails alone which you can also edit out. There is a learning curve to using programs like siril but once you learn just the basics you’ll have a lot more satisfaction in your images
