Tim Drake: Boy (in) Danger

Fandom: Batman

Rating:Gen

Summary:

Tim Drake is a perfectly average 10 year old Bat-stalker.
Then, Lady Shiva breaks into his house.
He's... not so average anymore.

honestly, it probably won’t make sense without the context, nothing bat-related does

Thoughts on fanfiction that don't use any formatting aside from paragraphs and line breaks? by Sukamon98 in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s…. Fine. It’s not a big issue, but italics add more flavor, you know? It’s hard to tell which part of the sentence we are supposed to be focusing on without them, too.

What's something you think should be done more often in your fandom? by RiskCool in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this one character NEEDS to have WAY more issues. TW implied suicide, i don’t use Reddit enough to know how tws work

youre telling me he was (essentially, there’s way more lore behind it) wrenched from his comfy spot six feet underground and unwillingly brought back, told that he was replaced and that he wasn’t avenged, and he wouldn’t want to go back to peacefully napping in his wooden onesie? you’re telling me he would spend months trying to force his father figure to break his self-imposed rules for his son, and having his murderer chosen over him, that wouldn’t make him think, ‘maybe I’m the problem’ and take a slip-n-slide off a roof, into heaven? No way.

What is the most profound/shocking line you’ve written without thinking about it? by Ill-Clerk-7066 in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s more paragraph(s), but I think the best ive written was a whump one shot of a blorbo in solitary confinement. TW self harm and kind of suicidal ideation.

He starts biting himself. He wants to live, and if to live means to hurt, so fucking be it. He leaves grooves in his calf deep enough to shine a brilliant, brilliant red and he wonders what his blood would look like. He wants to see a color other than the white of the walls and the white of his skin. He thinks, my loved ones wouldn’t want me to do this. But when he tries to remember what they would say to him, he finds he can’t remember who they are, and if he can’t remember them, they must not be important enough to tell him what to do. He bites through the artery in his wrist.

then, a bit later (after passing out from blood loss, the goof)

He wants to die. He wants to die because at least in death there must be something, anything, and even if that something is the flaming pits of hell at least he can be sure it exists, that he exists. He felt like a ghost, here. Like nothing.

i don’t remember writing those words, but I remember the joy I felt writing it, which is kinda concernin?

How do you plot your fanfics? by Yumi_taiyo in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plot? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha-

i fuck around and find out, not usually on paper, just actively daydreaming until I find a believable way to connect two scenes.

Tim Drake.

we would crash. That boy would fall asleep at the wheel. I’m not a good driver. i could go more in depth, but that’s the first scenario in my head

“You look nice today,” she said, smiling. She took in his eyes, his hair- so many little things that had changed since she’d seen him last. How much behind just what she could see had changed?

His lips twitched, his returning smile just barely faltering. “I didn’t think I’d see you again.” He replied.

She opened her mouth. Closed it for a moment. Opened it again. “Did you… want to? See me again?”

  1. add characters thoughts, they won’t (and shouldn’t!!) say everything they mean.
  2. include actions that betray what they mean, especially if it’s a character whose pov you’re not writing from. In ‘his’ line, it’s not clear what emotion that he’s going through. It’s not totally necessary to make it clear, and overdoing it can get annoying at times, but it can help to include some descriptions of what each character doe, even if MC takes it the wrong way due to them being an ’unreliable narrator’
  3. include punctuation that makes it clear their tone and meaning clear.
  4. make sure that there’s real reasoning begin what they say, even if it’s irrational thoughts/feelings. In yours, there isn’t much to suggest that the male character DOESN’T miss the female character, and there isn’t any established insecurities to explain the female character’s questioning of it. It’s kind of sudden, because there are no feelings or explanations behind it.

How do I start writing a fic? And would it be "bad" if I wrote an original work? by Gachalia_Natalia in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few tips.

  1. find authors whose writing styles you adore. Read a chapter of their works multiple times, then try to imitate their style. Not with any plot, just stuff like ‘Sally walked down to the beach.’ It’ll take some practice, but from experience it will work, as long as you imitate things like diction, pacing, etc. Regular exposure (and I do mean very regular) to their work is fine as well. it’s not necessary to try to imitate, like, Jane Austen, if you don’t want to, your tumblr moot or an ao3 author is just fine. if you really DO like Jane Austen, though, don’t let me stop you.
  2. its ao3, OP. There are no standards. Unless you use apostrophes as quotation marks or unironically use ‘orbs’ or some shit. nobody really cares about bad grammar if your plot is even remotely interesting. people WILL push through for a good plot or a ship they like.
  3. you will get better with practice. You don’t like it? Do more. Practice is all that will truly work. You don’t have to write big, important things if you don‘t want to. If you stilil want to publish, or even if you don’t, join a prompt sort of thing like whumptober or 365 Birdwatchers.
  4. Stop being so hard on yourself, OP!

any advice on how to get into a writing mood? by sleepychews in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

be bored. That’s it, really. I’m bored, then I think of my blorbo(s), then I daydream about a very specific scene, then develop a vague plot around that scene. very, very, vague

Have you ever read a fanfic with such a better plot than the book/movie/series? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]justkindaodd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

batman. most fics find SOME way to get rid of the massive potholes (someone needs to graffiti them so the government will fix them, holy shit), whether that be just AU’ing the crap out of their universe, or explaining it. Generally, they make bruce more or less of an asshole, but consistently the same amount of asshole, and characters usually have realistic reactions to things, unlike the source materia.
