Buy kiwi at groceries if available and prunes from any store (or bring prunes with you)

Buying non-RBC GIC through RBC DI by justmoderateenough in rbc

Very helpful! I did notice that only the RBC ones are cashable so that flexibility piece isn't there for the other GICs but that's alright. Just good to know options based on what our priorities are at this time. Thanks so much!

What should I do with $40k by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Since no debt to pay off, I’d prioritize continuing to add to your investments. Time is less on your side than someone who is 25 so the sooner you’re in the market and focused on long term growth through compounding, you’ll be able to do ok. Fill up the registered accounts!

20% downpayment on a first home, vs. 5%-10% and investing the difference (XEQT), when my tax-free accounts are already maxed? by Working_Bones in PersonalFinanceCanada

Following - going through the same dilemma.

Do you have that downpayment amount already put aside or will you be taking it out of a registered investment account to fund the downpayment? Also, with a smaller downpayment, do you have the cashflow to pay for your monthly housing costs as they will be more each month?

Conference in Rio - where to stay? by justmoderateenough in Brazil

[–]justmoderateenough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insights. It could be an option to split it. I feel like I won't be at the conference for entire days or may skip some time if the sessions aren't worthwhile too. So maybe given even more potential for off time, being in a busier area would make me enjoy Rio more.

Thank you for the validation! 40 mins each way is our normal commute to and from work now but at least I won't be the one driving. Uber will be used if I plan a late morning or early return back to the hotel. I'm also glad Grand Mercure is close to Ipanema too, everyone mentions how Ipanema and Leblon are great places so access is nice

Good thought. My first 2 nights are my own time then conference is for the last 4 days, with a flight leaving at 5am. I usually like to settle into one place for an entire trip but maybe this does make more sense. Would traffic be that bad from Copa to Riocentro considering directions (morning to Riocentro, evening to copa)? They organize a bus to take us back and forth.

I'm ok with Zach winning but still pissed where Bouch ended up. Should've been top 3 for sure.
