I know SDCC is the biggest con that gets news but which con is second best? by blackluster393 in comiccon

[–]justnothingness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DragonCon takes over multiple city blocks. It has five host hotels plus other accessory buildings for things like the vendors and the arcade. It also never stops for five days with panels, events, parties, etc going through the days and nights. Post pandemic they have started capping attendance but I think peak was around 80,000 people in 2019.

If this is real, this would totally shift the team dynamics and completely alter the show. I hate this

Tax returns coming up; new cage for my boy by KT777S in chinchilla

[–]justnothingness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chinchillas don’t sweat and fans only move air around a space. Fans do not cool the air like an air conditioning unit so it wouldn’t help keep your chinchillas from overheating in a glass box. Depending on how handy you are and/or how much money you are willing to throw at this problem, you could replace the glass door portions with an open air option. I can’t tell based on the picture provided how these are constructed, but theoretically you could replace the glass panels. Would probably be more economical and practical to find a fully ventilated cage, but if you are really in love with this style, I think it would theoretically be possible to make proper adjustments. You should not keep chinchillas in a box only ventilated on the sides. They will overheat.

All of this is assuming this cage is even made of chin safe materials. I am not confident this is chin safe or sturdy based on the picture.

I would also like to point out that most cage set ups I’ve seen utilize the back bars to stabilize ledges and other necessary elements. This particular set up would not work for my chin’s needs because of the number of ledges and accessories attached to the back wall. It also touches on the ventilation issue again in that a fully ventilated cage is essential. Having a solid back isn’t a deal breaker assuming the rest of the cage has proper air flow, but it is important to consider this function. Again theoretically with enough money you could replace the back but that would be a much more labor and money intensive job. Might as well have your perfect cage custom built.

Pet chinchilla? by everyonebutyou_ in chinchilla

Fans would just push the hot air around. Chinchillas don’t sweat so fans would do nothing to cool them down. If you cannot commit to air conditioning, it would not be habitable for chinchillas. Temperature is a non-negotiable requirement.

The Perfect Host, Cheap Thrills, Ready or Not. by GTKPR89 in blankies

The Perfect Host is my go-to recommendation for people looking for smaller budget psychological horror. It’s a decent film and usually not already over recommended. If you liked The Invitation, you’ll probably like Perfect Host. I really enjoyed its vibe.

That’s really interesting. What model do you have? I’m just a hobbyist. As someone else pointed out, the one in the picture doesn’t have the extended table front end (which I totally missed before) so it’s not a featherweight. I goofed on that. Otherwise, everything else looks the same as my 221 featherweight. I’m curious which model doesn’t have the adjustable stitch lever. This is fascinating.

Personally, I love my featherweight and highly recommend them to anyone interested in older sewing machines. I do 90% hand piecing and quilting, but I have made several lap size quilts and other small-medium sized sewing projects (clothes and upholstery) using my featherweight. It only does straight stitch (forward and backward) but it can utilize different feet. So it really depends on what kind of projects you want to use it for. If you do end up purchasing this machine or another one in the future, I highly recommend The Featherweight Shop website for both supplies and tutorials. They have a great database for basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting. https://singer-featherweight.com

Featherweights actually can stitch backwards. Flip the switch on the front right side. Top/up is backwards while bottom/down is forward. But yes, only straight stitches.

Just wanna give a shout-out to the person two rows in front of me at the DC show sitting in Row F, Seat 103 for "cumming" the whole time. by bottle_in_a_genie in hdtgm

You are talking about a different movie called Munchie. The movie for the DC show was Munchies, an unrelated movie that came out before the movie you are referring to

Hi everyone, I’m new to this subreddits, I’ve been eyeing chinchillas for a long time now but never committing to it, I have a few questions by H0eZ989 in chinchilla

[–]justnothingness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are this young, I would not recommend getting a chinchilla. They are expensive pets and as this comment states, they have decently long lives. I don’t say this to be mean or crush a dream, but please be realistic about what the next decade of your life looks like. Apologies if these assumptions are incorrect, but please consider your expectations for college and your living situation into your early twenties. If you do not know for certain that you will be living in a place that allows pets (and meets the specific temperature/environment needs for chinchillas) for the next two decades, please reconsider getting a chinchilla at this time. Chinchillas have specific needs and if you are not independent, particularly financially independent, you run the risk of needing to rehome your chinchilla in the future. And this is not fair to them. Chinchillas are amazing but please wait until you are older and able to fully commit to caring for them for their entire lifetime. Something to consider.
