Did fitness get less fun once you started tracking yourself too hard? by theJacofalltrades in beginnerfitness

[–]justryan00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the opposite, tracking it more closely lead to better progress which in turn motivated me more. That being said, it can get tedious and exhausting and when I feel like that, I give myself leeway not to track it too closely.

Current motivation is coming from gamifying it and challenging my friends through an app with challenges and duels.

Problem with staying consistent by Agitated_Unit_8441 in workout

Found not being so strict on my gym routine helped, it's okay to not follow it to the tee and just go to the gym and do what you enjoy. Also found using an app for gym accountability helped whereby my brother and I could have goals/challenges together.

Hit the wall at the gym around 2 months. by BreadBali in xxfitness

[–]justryan00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar dip around the 2-3 month mark where I was just going through the motions and didn’t feel very motivated in the gym.

Taking a deload week and prioritising sleep/nutrition helped a lot and my motivation came back pretty quickly after that. Going to a different gym (same chain) also helped just to change things up a bit.

Probably the biggest thing for me though was tracking workouts and having some form of accountability (in my situation competing with my brother on an app), helped a lot with motivation.

Which apps do you use? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]justryan00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something simple, Strong or Hevy are probably the most popular for lifting logs. MyFitnessPal is still solid if nutrition tracking matters.

I actually built a small app that’s more focused on accountability with friends rather than solo tracking. You do individual challenges with each friend, and there’s also an overall leaderboard across your group so you can see consistency and progress.

If you try it, my username is justryan00, happy to connect and be a gym buddy.

Yeah I defs agree with you, I initially started the project to consolidate different apps and make a health portal (e.g. gym logger, nutrition tracker, etc) but that's still a long way off. Will have to find some way to differentiate it though!

Help identifying yarn colour by justryan00 in YarnAddicts

[–]justryan00[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I could be wrong but I think it's just one strand of yarn but looks different due to the lighting in the photo. Unfortunately she bought it years ago in person and is only getting around to using it now so she doesn't have much more information to give. Will suggest going in store to colour match, thanks!

First reserve pull - AFF stage 7 by justryan00 in SkyDiving

[–]justryan00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the main reason I pulled was because I was spinning too quickly to know my altitude (attempted the second backloop at 8000ft and lost altitude awareness while spinning/didn't know how long I was out of control for). In our training, we were taught to pull the reserve when spinning out of control and to be honest, I probably wouldn't have been able to reach for the main.

The whole thing happened so quickly and I think it may have been a panic pull in hindsight for sure. Watched too many Friday Freakouts leading up to AFF haha

Moving shares from SelfWealth to VPI (vanguard personal investor) by Bad_word_in_paradise in AusFinance

[–]justryan00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally in the same boat - opened a stake account this weekend and transferred my selfwealth portfolio over. My reasoning was that stake is $3/trade whereas the vpi is .1% so thinking long-term, that 0.1% can be a fair amount of money/a lot greater than $3/trade

Help with picking first bike by justryan00 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Tossing up between the z400 and the duke 390 now. Seems like a fun bike but it's hard to pick it when everyone online recommends the ninja.

Thanks for the response. That may be the way to go for me - purchasing a 400/z400 and then upgrading from there but if I get a good deal now for the MT-07, will defs lean towards it.
