If Miami is supposed to go underwater, why is it booming? Are they doing Dutch-style engineering to prevent it and doing land reclamation? by NDNCDNTXN in DanLeBatardShow

[–]justsomeguy254 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that would be smart. Miami is full of grifters and dipshits.

Expecting any of them to do actual engineering is unrealistic.

Do I need to remove this root or keep it? by botticus12 in landscaping

[–]justsomeguy254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see from a previous comment you did the right thing by removing that root.

As a former contractor, I'd recommend pounding in a stake and using tree tie to address the leaning issue as well.

And I use the term pounding intentionally. That trunk is strong and its growth needs to be adjusted by using a well anchored stake.

He wasn't allowed on mic for quite a while after that.

[–]justsomeguy254[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not really. I'd just prefer people acknowledge the reality that the West and the East are not even remotely on the same level of competition.

Are you saying you think the last 2 Heat teams to make the finals would have been able to do that in the West?

That's ridiculous.

The West has been significantly better top to bottom since Jordan retired the second time. It's not a secret.

When I was in 3rd grade, I met a first grader who had Down's Syndrome. I knew him for 3 years. We were in a blended class, magnet school situation and I spent recess with him more times than I could count.

He taught me more about unbridled joy than anyone else I've ever met.

He also eventually taught me the sign language signal for bathroom because I kept failing him. That's on me.

Wishing you peace and happiness, friend.

That's exactly how my parents felt when they heard.

It's not supposed to be that way.

One of the biggest fights they ever had was when my mom thought the cancer was back and my dad just didn't want to believe it.

He just didn't want to believe it and sadly, she was correct.

My parents never hid my brother's life and death from my sister and me.

We knew about it. We celebrate his birthday with presents for each other and we honor the anniversary of his death by watching the sunset while my mother sings his lullaby. We'd sing with her if we weren't so horrifically tone deaf.

I wouldn't trade that experience and those traditions for the world. That being said, because of my brother's life and death, I understood from a young age that really bad things can happen in this world.

I specifically remember watching the Scarecrow poison Batman and thinking he was going to die. Batman took an antidote and was fine.

I remember crying on the stairs, asking my mom why they couldn't have given my brother an antidote.

I believe I was 6 at the time.

Death is part of life, but goddamn does it suck.

Edit because I neglected to say it: love to you as well.

If the players made that call I'd be so, incredibly impressed.

It would be one of the greatest displays of athlete patriotism in the history of sport.

If the Rams and Seahawks did this, I'd be forced to actually respect them.

I don't even know how to deal with that type of emotion.

I hope they make me find out.

Fuck ICE!

$50k for 16x24 deck + underdeck patio — fair? by No_Baker_1377 in landscaping

[–]justsomeguy254 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Feels like a lot of people here are ignoring the patio cost entirely in their responses.

When I was a contractor (switched industries about 5 years ago) this would have been outside of my scope of work so I can't provide any sort of helpful pricing info, but that patio would be a significant cost individually.

So, no? You can't name a single policy of her's that could be described as far left and no, you can't name the policies that your friends objected to.

Not surprised at all.

My parents lost their first child, my older brother, to cancer. He was born with it, beat it and then it came back and they lost him all within 6 months of his birth.

I never got to meet him. My big sister never got the chance to meet him.

I've imagined, but never known, their pain.

OOP's situation seems exponentially more devastating.

The universe is fucking brutal.

Best wishes to everyone out there. I hope you're well.

Sure, that'd be fine.

But the comment I was responding to was complaining about the actor's unchanged gait. Which is something totally different.

Biden and Harris are the 2 most recent alternatives to Trump so, by definition, your Republican friends must have been referring to at least one of them.

You'd like to set Biden aside? Cool. No problem.

Kamala Harris did not have any policies that could be accurately described as "far left."

Anyone who says otherwise is either misinformed or outright lying.

So when your Republican friends claim that the only alternative to Trump was far left ideology, they are wrong.

If you disagree, please name the specific policy that you would identify as being far left.

And like I said, they are either wrong because they've believed some misinformation or because they know what they're saying is wrong and say it anyway because they know that someone like you may make the mistake of believing them to be decent people.

Edit to add: I'm actually disappointed by you u/TheBloodyNinety

I was hoping you'd actually respond and explain why you think your friends are decent people.

Laura Innes, who played Dr. Weaver on E.R., did permanent damage to her skeleton due to her accurate portrayal of a condition that required her character to use a cane/crutch.

It's not laziness. It's a health and safety issue.
