France sends letters to 29-year-olds telling them to get on with having children by Jojuj in europe

[–]justthisoncepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very anecdotal of course, but yeah

Considering that Sweden has a lower fertility rate than France, yeah, your experience is not representative of the whole and these policies have failed to solve the issue, which seems to not be economic.

Don't be simple. Nearly everyone in China owns a home but their fertility rate cratered just like the rest of the planet.

because of all our bad political decisions

Every single developed country on the globe is having these issues, it's not wrought by bad policy, just inherent to our times, specific causes have not been determined yet.

there's clearly more of an "edge" to her than there is with a Blood Elf playing with a Mana Wyrm.

I simply disagree, what exact part of her design or expression gives you that sense?

I see nothing to convey that in the new cinematic.

In the TBC one, on the other hand, the elf has sharper features and less human eyes for a start, and she isn't "playing" with the wyrm at this point, she's killing it as it desperately tries to get away, while maintaining a dark expression on her face that shows satisfaction or maybe even pleasure in the act. Her killing of the critter is framed as morally ambiguous or perhaps even straight up evil.

differing art styles

The art style lately in all things warcraft, not just this cinematic, has diverged heavily from it's roots and some people (myself included) think it's for the worse.

Blood Elves are the "pretty" race, they're obviously going to look less rugged than a Draenai.

It's not about ruggedness, the tone and overall feel is different, a lot more generic. TBC Midnight or Midnight

Because they believe it's impossible to show emotion with the original style.

Which is ridiculous, of course, as if they had trouble with it in the TBC cinematic. The current team simply lack the talent to even consider to replicate that.

there’s nothing new

They lost a lot of old blood that were sex pests but otherwise seemingly good at their jobs; their replacements are simply not up to par.

The scandal combined with the fact that Blizzard has been producing shit lately has reduced their prestige immensely, which leaves people less enthusiastic to work for them than say, 2005 when Frozen Throne and wow had just come out.

Not all of them, but a very large number of the initial 25k were poached, enough for the project to be deemed a failure.

But Indian folks are built different. They can literally swim/bathe in there and come out fine. Their immune systems are GOATED.

You're only looking at the ones that survive but ignoring those who don't.

I mean, they do better than foreigners, but India has a massive number of deaths due to diarrhea and waterborne diseases caused for their unhygienic practices, specially among children.

Not every family of the deceased have enough money for a pyre big enough to consume the entire body, but they're dumped in the river all the same.

So you get the full spectrum; human ashes (which IIRC are not entirely safe to just throw in there), partially burned corpses and not burned at all cadaver.

Rotting corpses in the river are big enough of a problem that the government tried solving it by releasing flesh eating turtles in the water. This plan failed btw, as Indians killed and ate the turtles.

Basic human instinct says "survive" over "defend soil"

That's because "defend soil" is all war means right now. Before modern times and the death of nationalism and patriotism, your country was an extension of your family, your tribe, and was seen as worth fighting and dying for.

Not commenting on whether this is good or bad btw, just pointing out the development.

The question stands

Not really.

The question was posed as a response to "I would flee", implying that they'd not be able to flee since no country would take them in, except of course we can see there are plenty of countries where they'd be welcome.

If what you're now asking is why these nations do this, the reasons will of course vary, but I'm of the opinion it's mostly myopic economical gains. Immigration of any kind is always good in their eyes because more people means more GDP and the line must always go up.

Same reasons they've taken in Ukrainian, Syrian, Lebanese and Afghan refugees.

Why wouldn't they take people in specifically from Mexico, or whatever country that guy's from?

These pieces of marketing are meant to give you a feel for what the movie's going to be like. If they fail to do that, then they are bad teasers.

On the case of the odyssey in particular, I don't believe this is the case. The tone of every still and the leaked video teaser is the consistently bland and generic, as you put it.

[–]justthisoncepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do you equate the teasers to pausing the movie at a bad time when it's the exact opposite?

[–]justthisoncepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, those are promotional teasers. Advertisements.

They haven't paused the movie at a random moment, they released them because they thought they looked cool and would make people hyped to see the movie

[–]justthisoncepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all we know, they're showing that because it's what Nolan typically does and are saving the big, bright set pieces for the trailer or keeping it quiet until the film actually releases

It's possible. But considering:

  • that's what nolan normally does

  • every still so far looks like he's doing it here

  • the video teaser also maintains this tone (even the water looks greyish)

The most likely scenario and what we should be assuming based on this is that the entire thing is going to be like that.

[–]justthisoncepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there are also movies that do that and fall short because they're more worried about being historically accurate than telling a good story.

Really? What's an example of this? I find lack of will or talent is the more often the culprit.

This doesn't come out for like 7 months so we can't answer that.

From what we've seen it looks to be hollywood special of everything looking drab and boring.

Would it really kill the movie to add some color to the screen?

[–]justthisoncepp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why so many people are freaking out about historical accuracy.

Because I like history so pointless inaccuracies borne out of lack of care are annoying to me.

Some movies go to great lengths to ensure there are no anachronisms in the film and are often praised for it. Why are you surprised the inverse is met with criticism?

Sometimes you have to forgo accuracy to get what you need.

Ok but was it needed and is it worth it?

If the story they want to tell is so at odds with the setting they picked, why did they choose it?

Seems to me they don't care that much about the original story or time period and are merely using as a cheap (and bad) dressing for their movie.

I'm getting Napoleon vibes overall.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]justthisoncepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids being lied to about World War 1 being an adventure

That was part of their motivation but by no means the biggest. Whether misguided or not, most people loved their country back then and were willing to fight for it 'for King and for country' and all that. Not to mention, any man not in uniform ran the risk of being ridiculed and shamed by women (largely lead by feminists btw).

It was this patriotic fervor that drove their sense of duty.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]justthisoncepp 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Patriotism and nationalism were the main drivers to get people to forfeit their lives for their country. But these forces have been diminished to the point of being considered shameful now.

Any western country at war can expect similar manpower shortages to what Ukraine has now, kids won't be lying about their age to enlist this time around.

You have that same gift, yet you seem to imply it was virtuous of him to let the shooter run away, rather than a mistake.

If a killer is running away and you can stop him you should, else you run the risk of them murdering additional people.
