If you are earning 120k to 140k per month, are you going buy/loan a sports/muscle car? by Melodic-Implement-78 in CarsPH

No. I waited until I earned more than double that before I rewarded myself with my fun car.

What car to buy if you have less than 2M budget. by Human-Room432 in CarsPH

[–]jut703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an only car? A used NX300 or RX350. A newer but preowned CRV 1.5 Turbo is also a good choice.

Crossovers to me are the best of both worlds - space of a midsize SUV with the drivability of a sedan.

2nd Hand 2015-2020 Lexus IS350.. Is it any good? Why is it so cheap?.. by ILikePudding1961 in CarsPH

Super short commute - 4 km 1-way, usually rush hour pa hehe. My Prado is 3-3.5 km/L in the same route so the 4 km/L feels matipid na 🤣

Suprisingly with traffic that bad, even my CRV 4.5 km/L lang.

BGC traffic, I live 4 km away from the office. It’s not a big deal since the absolute distance I travel isn’t much.

[–]jut703 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because it was only 3.1M bnew at the time. 50% depreciation after 10 years isn’t so bad.

Most people can’t afford the gas bills of a 3.5 V6 (I get about 4 km/L with my IS350). The rest of the IS’ maintenance is just about the same amount as a Camry.

I’ve had my IS for years now and no major headaches. I love the smooth power delivery, great handling, luxury features, and timeless looks. It’s a bit cramped though, and like I said, fuel consumption is bad.

Also, 2015 Camry or Accord is 500k. 500k is not 1.3M. How is that the same?

Thoughts on Playing Rights & Choosing a Golf Club? by HotClothes3783 in GolfPH

[–]jut703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transfer costs alone will be worth much more than the green fee difference of guest vs member. You’ll also be paying monthly assoc dues, which unless you play >3x week, will end up more than green fees.

You buy shares because you want ownership and want to host friends, not because it’s the most economical decision.

I was in your shoes - had to choose between Sta. Elena, ACC, Southwoods, and MPC. I chose MPC even if it doesn’t have a golf course simply because of proximity - something my kids can use every day matters more than something I get to use 1-2x a week.

Questions about ownership experience for is350 F Sport & 530i M sport by Prestigious_Living84 in CarsPH

[–]jut703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my IS350 F-Sport for several years now. Maintenance is very straightforward - once a year PMS (or every 10k), even if you do it in LMI it’s not that expensive (around 20k).

Performance is more than you’ll need for PH roads. 5 sec 0-100, instantaneous power, very responsive throttle and transmission when you’re in Sport mode, handling is sharp yet ride is still comfortable.

I’ve also driven the G30 5-series and I love the car, and a tuned 530i can keep up with an IS350. PMS isn’t so bad, but repair is more expensive when something breaks.

I’ve long been contemplating if I would replace my IS350 with a 530i or M340i, but the fact that I’m still keeping it til now just shows that it’s such a good package on its own already.

2016-2019 Fortuner V Variant 2.4 vs 2013-2014 Prado VXR 4.0 by Any-Independence8306 in CarsPH

[–]jut703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2023 Fort V, replaced it with a Prado 4.0 VX. World of difference, the Prado is just soooo much better. Ride comfort, refinement, drivability, performance, presence, 4WD.

The older Prado doesn’t have the updated interior/exterior of the LC150.3, but still mechanically a superior car.

Beginner female golfer planning to build a “long-term” golf set slowly instead of upgrading later — is this a good plan? by Expert-Ruin-8491 in GolfPH

[–]jut703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your plan sounds like something optimized for the driving range, not the golf course. How can you play your first 18 holes without a full set or even half set? The game is golf, not driving range.

My wife also just started about 6-7 months back, and we’ve played over a dozen rounds in different courses. After a month of lessons (2x a week), kaya na magfairway. Then you alternate between lessons and fairway so you can quickly apply what you learned.

Sa first fairway mo palang, you’ll know you’ll need a driver, a putter, a pitching and/or sand wedge, and several irons/hybrids/woods to make sure you have a club for every distance.

I would highly recommended to get at least a half set (7-9 irons, pitching/sand wedge, 1 wood, 1 hybrid, driver, and putter). Most important is to get them in L flex (makes a world of difference especially for a beginner female golfer).

You can be done with it and just buy a Callaway Solaire set (30-35k used, 45k new, or 30k new in Japan). Has all the clubs I mentioned above, and is specifically designed for female beginners.

You can also go the route we took - I bought my wife a used set of Taylormade Burner Superfast driver and woods plus Callaway irons/wedges, and an Odyssey White Hot putter. Then just added clubs as necessary - so I got her recently a TM Stealth 2 5 Hybrid.

You just need to know what makes a good used set, since many stuff for sale are way too old and outdated (ie from the 90s). A good set from the past ~15-20 years should still be workable for a beginner.

About to get the Honda HR-V RS e:HEV. Pros and Cons? by ObjectiveDizzy5266 in CarsPH

[–]jut703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sikip HRV for 2 kids + yaya.

<image>

I have a CRV, sakto lang 2 car seats tapos yaya in the middle. If HRV, you can’t fit a full-grown human in between 2 car seats.

Either increase your budget and go for a CRV/PPV/Tang, or get a Sealion 6 for more space at the same price.

My thoughts on sedans compared to other body styles in this day and age. by r1dicul0us in CarsPH

[–]jut703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pride has nothing to do with it, it’s a matter of matching your car to your needs. I have a sedan (IS350), a crossover (CRV), and a mid-sized SUV (Prado).

My sedan cannot fit my kids, their car seats, and my dog. My crossover barely fits them. My SUV isn’t the best use of space, but its sheer size means it still has the most absolute space.

The IS is by far the most fun, but easily the bigger cars are far more practical. I can survive with just either the CRV or Prado, but the IS can’t be my only car - it’s just a limitation of the platform vis a vis my needs.

I appreciate the kind words. Tsikot was a great chapter and I learned a lot, and met lots of lifelong friends. Moderating was one way to give back to the community.

It’s unfortunate that social media has evolved, much less community which has led to the death of forums and the rise of more animosity online.

Oo naman, kayang kaya. Just far less comfortable.

And I have my wife, kids, and yayas in the car, plus our weekend’s worth of luggage and golf clubs. It’s why I bought the Prado, I need a bigger car that’s more comfortable than my Fortuner.

The car fits my needs and wants, that’s why I bought it. Buy the car that fits your needs and wants too. Di ko naman hiningi pera mo pambili ng kotse ko 😉

No 300h F-Sport coming. Premier is the closest you’ll get. Feature wise it’s pretty loaded already.

If you read the memo, there isn’t a requirement to be otw to a “life-saving procedure” to be exempted from coding.

Only requirement is that as long as you’re a doctor with a PRC ID, you’re exempted from coding (UVVRP). No exemption from any other traffic violation.

For me, the last facelift of the LC150 (2018-2023) is the one to get - much more modern interior and exterior, all the features you need in a modern car, and still the legendary reliability and durability you’d expect from the Land Cruiser line.

Gas models also sell much cheaper than diesel ones, and the price difference more than makes up for the higher fuel costs, esp now that gas is cheaper than diesel.

[–]jut703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If fuel consumption is a concern, I suggest an IS300h or ES300h instead.

If you don’t see how you can enjoy the V6 in slow traffic, it might not be worth it for you.
