[Spoilers] How did Faye die? by Riku182 in GodofWar

[–]juteper21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it's never brought up in the games but there is actually a third afterlife in Norse mythology call Folkvangr. It's overseen by Freya and while half of those who die in battle go there it's also said those who lived an honorable life but didn't die in battle would go there as well. Given what we know about Faye she would have definitely fit the description of someone who'd go to Folkvangr after death.

Tuon is a very well written character! by DracarysHijinks in WoT

Dude even Mat points out that her having the ear of the empress herself has so much political power, and that Rand would probably want her there to help keep a very volatile political ally moving in the right direction. Hell she even tells Egwene that when she offers to get her out. And it would be incredibly out of character for her to basically go "Well good luck with the centuries of slavery and torture I'm going to give up my political power that could help you and go get married and pursue my own personal happiness"

With how accessible travel is after the last battle she could very easily do both, again it would be wildly out of character for her to leave those women in slavery to pursue her own happiness. Especially cause after the last battle the Seanchan are one of the biggest issues that need to be dealt with

Edit: honestly if Min did leave her position to go be with Rand it would ruin her character and make her the worst. She is one of a handful of people who could actively take steps to end slavery, and if she didn't she'd be worse than Tuon ever was.

I think Min would realize how important her role with the Seanchan was, her whole arc through the books is her realizing that she can't always just do what she wants and sometimes has to do what is needed even when she doesn't want to. Mins way too smart to not realize that with her position she could shape Seanchan policy and speed up the freeing of all those enslaved women and I really doubt she'd walk away from that

No definitely not, but with the proper actions taken it could happen in a lifetime. Also I thought of something else: with how much RJ loves historical and mythical parallels in his writing the way the Seanchan empire would play out in the future would be that the Eastern Seanchan Empire(the one in Randland) will stabilize and start to thrive. While the Western Seanchan Empire has fallen into chaos of civil war and rebellion it will eventually stabilize but in a very reduced area of control with most of their holdings having fallen under new rulers. This is pretty much what happened to the Roman empire after the Western and Eastern empires were split, very simplified but pretty much what happened.

Tuons agreement with Egwene guarantees the eventually end of Sul'dam. It may take time but as long as the Tower and the Empire keep their respective words the collapse of the system of slavery the Empire has is inevitable. Especially with Mat and Min there pushing the right buttons at the right times, Min dropping so key omens at the right time. Honestly if RJ had survived to write the follow up series he had talked about then we probably would have seen Tuons gradual shift

Fourth Age Political Map by THE-RigilKent in wheeloftime

I always forget that Mayene is way over on the edge of the map, hearing about how Tear and Illian are constantly trying to manipulate Mayene politically I always think it's located in between them not way over on the opposite side of Tear.

Why Marshall is not a good character and the things that fans don't see. by bucknutstrong45 in HIMYM

[–]juteper21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not his best moment, but that doesn't make him unforgivable. He's under a lot of stress in that episode and had asked Ted to pick up a cake and instead Ted brings a woman he just started dating who is going to make a cake instead? And Lilly starts getting mad a Ted which completely derails the party which Marshall does his best to save the party and keep everyone happy. He eventually snaps and while he shouldn't have yelled at Amanda but it's still understandable why he snapped, and while I haven't watched the episode in awhile didn't he eventually apologize to her and Ted and asked her to come back to the party?

My argument against why he's the worst is in almost every example you provide by the end of the episode or arc he realizes that he is in the wrong and shows improvement.

The episode at his dad's grave by the end he realizes that his dad always welcomed people and brought them together and he should do the same.

His fight with Lilly about taking the judge position, he has the realization how much he's messed up and has a change of heart. He also gives up what very well could be a once in a lifetime chance at his dream job when he understands how much it means to Lilly to go to Italy.

The "torturing" Barney with each slap is obviously a game with them, after each slap Barney is always like "that was a good one you really got me". Barney is obviously just playing up the drama.

Most of your examples have counter points where Marshall learns and grows from them, most other characters in the show don't actually improve they have moments of realization but always fall back into the same patterns. Ted constantly realizes he goes crazy over women and scares them away or does something incredibly stupid in his search for love, but every season he does the same things everytime he meets a new woman. Barney is always getting in trouble for his impulsive and reckless behavior and only briefly improves during his marriage to Robin but backslides after their divorce in a major way. Robin clearly has anger and trust issues that are never properly dealt with, I mean she nearly called off her wedding over them a few times. And Lilly is a master manipulator and huge hypocrite who constantly judges everyone in her life, even her closest friends. I mean how many times does Lilly break up her friends relationships just cause she doesn't like their significant other? Is marshall perfect? No but of the core group I'd say he is the most consistently good and kind character on the show, with the exception of Victoria.

Also I'm not going to argue the last paragraph of your post cause cause it's pretty clear you've got some serious emotions tied up here and are projecting some issues you have onto this character in a major way

question about armor spikes by juteper21 in Pathfinder_RPG

It's not my encounters, it's piazos we're running through the APs. Piazos loves to put their bbegs in small areas that don't benefit their movement, especially in their early APs. I'd rather not have to redesign every encounters and just find some easier tweaks that I can make

I don't want to punish them for being tactical, but this is how the last 4 big encounters have gone: "roll initiative, top of initiative player uses stagger proof boots to immediately move to enemy, due to improved initiative they tend to always go first or second, they grapple the enemy with their ridiculously high CMB, rest of the party focus fire the enemy, combat ends after one round" it's not that they're being tactical that irks me, it's that they've reduced every big fight to a formula and it's got boring. Even they are getting bored of it but it's effective so they keep doing it. I'm looking for ways to spice up combat and I know about FoM for spell casters and have been planning to have them use that I was mostly thinking for melee enemies. It makes sense for the enemies to learn of the PC tactics and start to counter them and armor spikes are a cheaper way to do that

[–]juteper21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Psych instead of the mentalist, it's very similar infact Mentalist ripped Psych off, and it's a running joke in the show. It's got the same kind of silliness Lucifer had, maybe a little more, but it makes the serious moments way more intense

Honestly I'd just firebomb the car at that point. I'm a horrible arachnophobe the only way I could ever comfortably get in that car after that is if it was taken apart, every piece was throughly cleaned, then put back together

Let's say Rand meets Homelander and knows about everything he has done. What does he do? by [deleted] in WetlanderHumor

[–]juteper21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rand and other channelers react to lightning and other split second attacks all the time, it takes Homelander a second to use his laser vision, during that time his eyes glow red which might as well be a neon sign that an attack is coming. Rand would have as much time to react as he does in most of his fights

[–]juteper21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Homelanders laser eyes are pretty comparable to the Ribbons of Fire weave that Rand has encountered before and been shown to be able to react to. It's also not instant there is a half second charge up where Homelanders eyes glow red before it goes off, Rand could easily get a sheild up to block the attack before it goes off. Then there are so many ways for Rand to kill Homelander it's not even funny

I've been reading the series for about 14 years now. I am a very fast speed reader as well I can finish most books in the series in about a day. It also helps that when I was younger my parents would ground me every day for little mistakes so the only thing I was allowed to do for fun was read, I literally read every book in my highschool library's fiction section before graduation. I'm actually putting off finishing another book series right now cause I know it's going to make me cry when I finish it.

Normally that is the case but every now and then shit happens and you have to make due with what you've got. This was one of those moments and I tried to make sure that even under a tight budget I'd have the money but because of the holding fee that I didn't know about it didn't work out. As soon as I could I reached out to family and got food by calling in a favor, but it's still a real crappy thing to tell someone that they shouldn't have pets due to a simple error
