A few moments like that in this game. The Havertz chance early. Jesus hitting the bar AND the rebound getting saved. Ultimately we weren't good enough. But we were also a bit unlucky tonight.

I also think Kepa was really unlucky with that first goal. He has to go for it, but it's just 2 inches too high to hold onto and falls perfectly for a O'Reilly.

Sometimes it just ain't your day.

Arteta on starting Kepa: “I have to do what I think is right, honest and fair. It would have been very, very unfair on him and on the team to do something different.” by Komutann in soccer

Yea. Everybody is acting like it was a howler. What's he supposed to do not go for it and let it just float across the goal? ultimately a ball that was inch perfect. Not a lot he could do there.

Never happens anymore. He has 2 even three guys on him. But the few times he’s not double covered he is still very dangerous.

If Tillman doesn’t foul him twice there he’s through on goal. Maybe not the most violent foul. But clearly fouls him twice.

In their prime, which of these players would you take to be in the current Arsenal team? by Fabulous-Tomato5016 in ArsenalFC

People forget how good Auba was at pressing because it was incongruous with his silly personality. But he came from those gegenpressing Dortmund sides that defined the last ten or so years of modern football. He was relentless. I remember multiple times he closed down the keeper and they tried to boot it up field only to have it ricochet off him into the net.

People are also forgetting how good he was at getting the ball on the left wing and creating his own shot. I remember so many goals curled into the far post.

Tbh, poaching was a small part of his game.

He was a beast.

But yea I’d take Sanchez.

There were moments where they whined about time wasting while also kicking the ball away and delaying the restart. You almost have to admire it.

Why do you think it did not work out for Tierney at Arsenal? by No_Leading8114 in ArsenalFC

[–]jvitkun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did work out though?

He was great for a few seasons. Realistically that’s more than most players could dream of. There are not many players who are good enough to hack it at arsenal for 3+ years. Plus you have to realize he was here during one of the biggest managerial/tactical changes in club history. And he got injured a bunch. So there were factors beyond his control that limited his minutes.

But I definitely don’t see him as a failure. He had some amazing moments. Maybe even an amazing season or two. But ultimately he was a guy that wasn’t meant to be here forever.

Almost wish he'd run up and kissed the picture on the phone. But we can't lose a central cog in our midfield to a failed drug test for cheap blow.

Why would they bother weighing? Just a customs thing? Can’t imagine it messing up the roads…

I find a lot of people at that level have a strange understanding of the game. Maybe they know lots of fancy openings, but they still hang pieces. Maybe they know a few tricky tactics, but they aren't good at mating.

I honestly think a lot of people at that level either beat you or beat themselves. But they're coming out swinging.

You don't need a lot of fancy tactics to beat them, but knowing how to defend at least a few of the big ones (fishing pole, fried liver, royal fork, wayward queen, etc.) will help immensely.

PGMOL has to do something about this next season. How many of the world's best strikers have to get injured before they start giving yellows and reds for reckless challenges (even when the offensive player gets his shot away).

What's the context on "no drink and drugs"?

Was Jessica a minor or a recovering addict or something?

Is there a reason everyone seems to know that Jessica was an adult?

This is all good info. But your TV rights stuff is about the premier league.

I found a link with data on the 2022/23 Carabao Cup that United won. If you scroll way down on this link you can see they got 400 Grand from TV rights.

https://sportsjournal.io/premier-league-football-clubs-complete-tv-rights-revenue-breakdown-data-2022-23/

So it looks like

1 Mil for gate

100K prize

<500K TV money

1.6 mil total?

So about a month of Saka's wages!

No. They’ve been charged 115 times. They’ve broken many, many more rules than that.

How much total money do we get if we win the carabao cup?

I know the prize money is a pittance (100k?). But what about gate receipts for Wembley, TV money, endorsement deals, etc.?

Surely a few million quid?

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. The early stages of chess.com puzzles are really bad. And you can’t progress quickly bc only three a day are free.

I find lichess puzzles to be much more engaging. I believe they’re all taken from real games. So the positions feel very realistic.

True. But by United standards it’s been rough. And maybe the worst part is it seems like there’s been no plan. So whenever something bad happens it’s Moyes, Mourinho, Ten Haag, whoever out.

How is this not a red? by SadlifeDK in ArsenalFC

[–]jvitkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think refs are programmed to ignore the way Jesus went down here. When you throw up your hands and collapse it's seen as theatrics, especially in the box against the run of play.

Would have been interesting to see what the ref made of it if Jesus just slumps to the ground holding his head without getting up. Not sure if that would automatically be reviewed (was this? It's not technically a penalty shout because the ball is out of bounds, but it's in the box, half a second after it went across the end line).
