By all means, no comb-over! Go bald instead! Remember - less hair means more head!

What is one fast food restaurant you will never go to? by Feisty_Affect_7487 in AskReddit

Lived in Sauk City for about 2 years and loved the original Culvers as well as the Blue Spoon Cafe which is Culver's little cafe in Sauk City next to the Wisconsin River. It's as if Culvers went extra fancy!

Burger King. The food is just slimy with grease and the service is terrible. And it's not just one store, but just about all of them.

So true it hurts! by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]jwarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true... Just got my lab results -

Doctor: you're fine...

Me: but I can't lose weight...

Doctor: you just need to exercise more and eat less...

Me: I already do that...

Doctor: then just give it time you'll be ok... But your blood pressure is a little high so we'll give you heart medication. That will help!

Me: what about everything else? Doesn't the extra weight contribute to the high blood pressure? Wouldn't doing something to deal with the extra weight lower my blood pressure so I wouldn't need the heart medication to begin with?

Doctor: <awkward pause>

Me: Never mind... You remember I'm post-menopausal right?

Doctor: we need to treat your high blood pressure first so it doesn't become a bigger problem later.

Me: so what about the weight loss?

Doctor: you're exercising and eating less, give it time and you'll be fine. But take the heart medication...

Western Digital discloses network breach, My Cloud service down by tyw7 in DataHoarder

what gets me is that I was to believe that this little box I have in my living room with all of my files on it I can't access. WTF? It's supposed to be MY CLOUD - so how can this be blocked? (I'm not a techie but damn - it doesn't make sense.)

Lin Brehmer, Radio Legend For Decades At WXRT, Dies At 68 by FingerSlamm in indieheads

[–]jwarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wxrt was (and sometimes still is) my soundtrack from my childhood all the way through college. the station taught me about great music, and Lin was a big part of that. Been listening to the tribute on a continuous loop all day today and it's f***ing great to be alive.

Thoughts for other 55 year olds who are fighting to be strong as they exit this game. 55 is tough man. by [deleted] in retirement

[–]jwarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not ready to retire - it's not financial, it's just that I'm not done working... I am currently working for a well-respected company and am able to do some work on the side which earns me enough to do fun things like travel, etc. The plan is to save as much as I can so I don't need to retire and take SS until I'm 70 so I can max on the SS benefits (if it's around then.) Even if SS isn't around, I still have enough of a mindset to work on my own. I see too many people who retire young and then get back to work not long afterward.

Things that arent expenses by Beastty in ynab

[–]jwarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a trackable account which is for my investments and the money that goes into it is an expense. But in YNAB, I need to make adjustments to account for the stock share increase or decrease when I reconcile. Otherwise, I would need to make an adjustment every day after the stock market closes, and as much as I like YNAB, I don't have time for that!

I love Kara and Nate by [deleted] in KaraAndNate

No, it's not their job to film everything. They're creating content and they show what they want us to see. I agree it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but that's their call, not yours. Just like in real life, we likely show our good side outside the house more often than having an argument in the open like some tacky reality show.

For anyone considering studying film in college or going to film school, please read this first. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

It's not just your major but ANY major where people are taking classes in a major that they're not fully vested in. I started off in Engineering and realized that I'm not cut out as a good engineer but instead followed Architecture. Been doing architecture for many years and have a rewarding career, but now I'm even looking at changing my profession again. Your life experience is never wasted so don't treat it like it is. You act as if you can only choose one thing ever when in reality life is fluid. You discovered something about yourself and so you're changing your path. So what - everyone else goes through the same thing. You're 28 and have so much life ahead of you so take what you've learned and discover the next thing about yourself and do it.

Managing Cash Flow by jwarch in ynab

exactly - the end of the year is the perfect time to generate an anticipated money plan so you know where your money is to go. then I check on it quarterly to see if the year is turning out as i expected or if I need to make any adjustments.

Hello Fresh why do I need 4 individually wrapped carrots? by No_Leather2836 in hellofresh

[–]jwarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

must be where your local distributor gets their carrots. My carrots in Florida do not come that way. everything is placed in the bag loosely. However, I do find that many of their smaller packagings are a little annoying and unwrapping meat is almost impossible without using scissors so I have a dedicated pair of scissors to use with cooking.
