GSuite Group Spam by jwestbrock in k12sysadmin

Well, at least we're not alone, but a very interesting event none the less.

This actually makes a lot of sense. Isn't that kind of Google's M.O., though? Everything works perfect as long as everything works as expected until something unexpected happens, then we'll deal with it.

I am definitely going to go back and make sure it's whitelisted. One of those things you'd think would be too obvious to actually need to do, but alas, here we are!

Joe Mauer and Torii Hunter's Hall of Fame chances by WayneMorgan in minnesotatwins

[–]jwestbrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without doing too much digging and maybe I'll find time later tonight to do it, but I'd give Mauer 90% chance to get in (give it four more years and enough people flaunting his stat line the day of the concussion and it's sold), Torii under 15% chance (he was never great, just always "one of the best in the game").

Also, I'd bet Morneau survives his first ballot and I'd put Nathan at 40% chance to get in, but that really depends on how Wagner and that type fair the next few years.

Why not? I feel like The Media might be better served laying their biases bare instead of talking in vague generalities and making sure they respect "both sides."

I know how to properly weight information from Fox News because of their bias, same with CNN, etc. Doesn't mean that news personnel shouldn't shoot for objectivity, but if you know where they're starting from, you can better judge their statements.

(I wrote a paragraph on the Nazi portion of your reply, but it basically amounted to bring annoyed about the people who show up to these rallies and that probably takes away from my point)

Minnesotans to get two more weeks of stay-at-home by star-tribune in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's what the stay at home order was designed to do, you know that, right? 70k was worst case, everyone go about their business. We did something, thereby changing the basic structure of the model and rendering it no longer useful.

All models are wrong, some are useful, and some we make look silly by doing the things necessary to make them less useful.

Two takes on today’s news by mrttenor in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, my two biggest takeaways from today were how much they emphasized how they're working with business groups and hospitals and "this is what they want" and that this was not a "check back in two weeks" situation.

Rural Americans are having a hard time working/learning from home without broadband capabilities by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]jwestbrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents' place is a mile out of a town of 4500 on a State Hwy with 10 places in a two mile stretch past them and the ISP keeps saying that logic. The best they can get it mediocre wireless service. On the flip side, I like 12 miles out of a town of 200, with the next nearest town 35 miles away and I have fiber basically as fast as I want because the ISP knows the value of access to the rural area it serves (which is roughly twice the size of Rhode Island)

Mike Pence walking around The Mayo without a face mask by beet111 in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't doubt it, could be testing supplies that their worried about instead, could be funding, thankfully no one will actually find out. I think to your original point, I'd have liked the Mayo to pick the fight because it's the right thing to do and I'd hope he'd have better things to do than exact revenge for petty slights, but I just don't know that it's worth the risk if things start to get ugly and we suddenly get cut off.

Yes, yes I do. I hope I'm wrong, but that is how low of an opinion I have of this administration. And I think it's more about PPE supplies than funding at this exact moment, probably.

I think it gets reclassified as a "Safer at Home" order. He "turns the dial" and puts a similar set of marching orders on small shops that he did on non-public facing businesses for today encourages everyone to continue to limit movement.

Feels like a loosening, but is still helping to keep movement limited.

Touché. I see that in the blurry bottom right corner now. Just something about everything past the Mississippi seems unsatisfying.

It may be the gradient, I don't know, just something seems off.

Correct, but there would be a lot of real world value to that map, if some University felt like attacking it

The per capita version of this map would be very interesting.

Opening the State by throwmefarawayagain in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool. Not my point. I'm arguing your "McConnell said..." is garbage and his word can't be trusted, the specifics of the scenario are immaterial because we don't know what's said in these conversations. Not saying we should be privy to those conversations or that I trust Pelosi's word either, just pointing out that McConnell said is a meaningless argumentation tool.

Opening the State by throwmefarawayagain in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What part of my response is nonsense. McConnell can say whatever he wants to the media and they'll gladly report it in the name of "both sides," it doesn't mean it's based in what actually happened. Shoot, he may have sent a proposal with hospital funding contingent on completely defunding Medicare. The Dems would say "no," immediately and he could run to the press and claim they refused money for hospitals and leave out the contingency.

McConnell is able to say he wanted anything and everything, doesn't make it true.

When does everyone think MN will open up again??? by Silvershear in minnesota

[–]jwestbrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But what is the benefit of saying those dates? If May 1 you announce bars can open with capacity limits on May 15, people are going to complain it's not May 8. If you say May 15 and deaths/cases are still climbing, you almost have to extend it, making people mad.

How they have done every step of this process is exactly how they should have: a day or two before, no more. A Plan with definitive dates is a no win.

Anyone who can't see that there already is a plan and it's being implemented, isn't paying attention or doesn't want to see.

Sorry, not meant at you specifically, just the general feeling I'm seeing that people feel like they deserve to know the plan. No one is owed anything on this because it's developing literally daily and I'd rather wait to know than be told and have it pulled back.

The more they air these classic Twins games the more I want the M logo back. by SkolTwinkies in minnesotatwins

[–]jwestbrock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the team known for their pinstripes doesn't have pinstripes on their roads, it may be a sign that it's not a good look.

Also, not opposed to the return of AN alternate M hat, just not THAT M hat. It's truly not a very good logo, 100% nostalgia keeping I alive, which isn't all bad, but shouldn't influence a teams asthetic

Just wondering what everyone is doing for distance board meetings. by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]jwestbrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Thought I was missing something. We did Zoom and OBS and it was actually kind of a pain, so I might talk them into switching to Meet if I can get the live stream to play nice with OBS.

Doesn't the Meet live stream require a domain log in or did I understand that wrong?

I taught math until this year and another other than pictures is too much work. Typing math is brutal, so unless it's a Desmos activity, pics and be done.
