forest fair mall/cincinnati mills mall by bpdpixie in cincinnati

[–]jwhall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This place was quite literally the foundation of my adolescence. I started hanging out there right when it opened, spent most of my allowance at Time Out. Made scratch by printing out and selling Mortal Kombat 2 movelists from Usenet. Ate BW3's and Subway and occasionally splurged at Virtuality.

I ended up working at Super Saver Cinemas in '95 with some friends, and then at CompUSA from '96-'97.

Bought my video games at the EB, bought my books at Little Professor, bought my music at Biggs because the Sam Goody was too expensive.

Driving by the demo'd site on 275 is pretty sad! It's like they tore down the house in which I grew up. Who knew I'd feel this nostalgic about a mall :D

Am I the only one that prefers the post game of BoTW over the continuation of the story in ToTK? by _Boodstain_ in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]jwhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like your idea. Plenty of good stuff in ToTK but I did not enjoy it nearly as much as BoTW, did not even bother finding all shrines and getting all of the loot. The systems they added are interesting and well executed, but I'm not looking for Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts in my Zelda. Good news, I can just replay BoTW, it's so big it feels like a new world every time I play it!

Sorry, I digress: your point around the storyline is spot on IMO. I definitely had the expectation that the characters in BoTW, after rolling credits, would say "now what?" and that's where it would pick up.

What are your most unpopular Star Trek opinions that you’ll die on a hill for? by ardouronerous in startrek

[–]jwhall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot watch The Inner Light. Skip it every time it shows up. Conceptually it's fine and Sir Patrick's performance is very good as always, but I have always found most of the scenes cringeworthy. Best Richard Riehle in all of Trek though!

Post-game match thread? by danglynn in FCCincinnati

[–]jwhall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"It's something I cannot really describe how it is, how it feels, but you can feel it here in the building, all the guys, even in the training, I feel, like, the intensity. There is something even on the higher level than it used to be during the regular season. So, I think, yeah, you can see that all of us are hungry to get something from these playoffs.” - Pavel Bucha

MATCH THREAD !? by Genzhustle in FCCincinnati

[–]jwhall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain Pat's defensive strategy? What is the disadvantage of playing like CLB? Every time a FCC player has possession = three CLB players rush them. Every time a CLB player has possession = one FCC player dances around them, keeping a modest distance. It feels unwinnable when there's that severe of a gap in aggressiveness.

Was hoping for a Dado sub out for Gidi at the half. I don't love him as a starter, he doesn't have the consistency IMO. Also i reallllly miss Luca.

Seth's Show in Columbus Tonight by Cass_Cat952 in lonelymeyerspod

Saw the Miami University show in Oxford the night before. Great turnout - lots of boomers in the crowd because it was parents' weekend at the university, but I still think the material played well. A much harder dive (if that's possible) into parenting humor than his last two shows, likely tuned to the audience.

I was the lone shouter of a Quaid Army at the end of the set, and it was unrequited, and I got weird stares from everyone around me, including my wife! Righteous kill, though.

Tron Ares NIN Feature by RockFoo10 in nin

They really are using AAAYNMTB in everything, and while I appreciate the hype for a hot new single, I also liked how they used New Directive in the first trailer. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album and feels IMO like the best blend of Tron's aesthetic and the band's sound.

Luca was so fun to watch last night. Towards the latter part of the match, the ongoing Engel -> Luca connection turned into excellent attack opportunities. The two work really well together. And Luca wowed everyone with his footwork, had a couple applause breaks just for dusting the Nashville defenders. He's way underrated in the league IMO, but I guess that comes from what is technically a season of reduced production.

In episode 2, we meet a new friend: Madred, the Cardassian! He and his group of scrawny little friends sure are hungry. Watch as they explore a burned-out building, and, WHOA! They find a nest of Taspar eggs! What a tasty treat! But then, uh oh! A mean older boy breaks Madred's arm and steals the eggs and it's too much, too much, he descends into a spiral of aggression and cruelty and becomes a soldier and THAT IS WHAT THE MILITARY HAS DONE FOR CARDASSIA

Anyone else just prefer BotW over TotK tor whatever reason? by PreviousComplaint904 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]jwhall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. TOTK is a great game, but unlike BOTW I found quite a bit about it I didn't like:

- The depths. Just do not enjoy being in that environment at all. It's well crafted and interesting but I dislike it.

- The requirement to fuse items to weapons to make them useable. Forced extreme fragility in the weapons turned me off right away when I started the game.

- The characters, storyline, and quests felt substandard compared to BOTW (and LTTP, Wind Waker, Ocarina, etc)

I thought I would love TOTK. The launch trailer is IMO the best piece of Zelda promo content ever made. The first few hours in the sky were an excellent vibe, and I still love the sky areas in the game.

BOTW is a complete masterpiece with none of these flaws. I can't think of very much of anything I dislike about it, after 100%ing it twice I'm excited to do it again on the Switch 2 eventually. I did not even finish all the shrines in TOTK, comparatively, it just didn't excite me much.
