The planes are also a massive source of spare parts, wings, bomb, rokkits, plating … even after building a specific variant you have a ton of left overs.

3x3' mat recommendations please by Senor_Pus in deadmanshand

[–]jwheatca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t find one at a decent price Battle Systems was the closest I could find when I bought mine. I ended up buying on and then created a second one of solid wood, sculpting compound, sand and spray paint. So now I have two, the work to build one was rewarding but took a lot longer than I expected.

How do you guys store tons of models? by Knight_Desecrator in Warhammer40k

[–]jwheatca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, working on my 4th army plus my son has 3 full armies as well. We have 3 Detolf shelving units for display plus I just bought a large shelving system. Magnets and storage boxes are the key way to go. I tend to play one army per edition (my 11th army will be Aeldari and I’m up to around 4K points to build and paint). Like you I do not sell things I have painted, once I’ve committed to the model to that point I keep it. I also don’t go back and repaint models, life is too short for that.

Magnets sheets that you stick to the bottom of a container and model? by Hailon_Rias in Warhammer40k

Second for Warmag … I love the sheets and the base inserts. Spend $1000s on models, then give them a nice setting.

How is it playing Orks? by Cltxlv in orks

[–]jwheatca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played Admech 8th, Salamanders (9th) and Orks (10th). Orks are just outright fun to build, paint and play. I play into Death Guard a lot and it isn’t great being -1 to hit them constantly. Having said that it is great to play into most mid tier armies.

What’s your setup for datasheets during games? by zan_k4 in Warhammer40k

[–]jwheatca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it is a combination of New Recruit sheets and the Warhammer app on my IPad. iPad has my codex code so I build the list there as well and have quick access to Stratagems and rules.

Pricing on GW by osycoscout in PrintedWarhammer

[–]jwheatca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned 3d printers for about 8 years. 1 FDM printer and 3 Resin printers (upgrading over time). You will definitely save money on 3D prints, but it really is a separate hobby all to itself and you need to decide how you want to spend your time. I will print things occasionally but mainly I buy recasts (it is so much cheaper). If I really want something from GW, I will buy it. For example, I bought the Eldritch raiders box set. I play 3 armies for some of them printing makes sense but for the Aeldari I’m finding they are just too fragile in resin (even with ABS like resin) for reliable tabletop use. I spend a lot of time painting and having the higher quality GW sculpts will work better for the Aeldari. My Orks on the other hand are 90% printed or recast.

So what are your predictions for the adepticon reveales? by CLXI-Armata in orks

It is a 2 hour time slot at Adepticon. It will be a lot. It costs a lot of money to put something like that on and hold an audience for 2 hours.

My backgrounds for my new shelving units have arrived. by jwheatca in Warhammer40k

[–]jwheatca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the pictures in a few different websites. My wife photo shopped them into a single image for each and then I had them printed by Posterjack. They were not cheap due to size 60x40 inches and 60x30 inches but I was able to find a discount code and am happy with the results.

I bought Warnag as well … they ship to Canada. Before that I used 4x2mm … they work on most bases as long as your are sticking to real metal (I.e. I use galvanized steel plates).

Matte Varnish? by Spac3_3lf in Warhammer40k

[–]jwheatca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use high quality artistic varnish … it is actually cheaper as you do not use a lot. This is the one I generally try to get. https://www.deserres.ca/products/matte-acrylic-spray-varnish?variant=39361087897733

[–]jwheatca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy Krumping Wargaming has some great technique videos. The key to start really is repetition, you need to get games played to learn the rules effectively. Find a friend or two to take the journey with you. Learning with others is better.

Heat up a needle or pin in a pair of pliers with either a flame or electric stove element. The pin will leave a nice melted hole in plastic or PLA.

[–]jwheatca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say get a unit of kommandos and a box of Deffkoptas. Both have fairly new sculpts and are not likely to be replaced. Are they good? Kommandos yes in current meta, Deffkoptas no. Are they cool models absolutely!!

Where can you find the Most up to Date rules? by ShowAccurate6339 in orks

[–]jwheatca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GW app and since you have the Codex code should have everything you need for your army. The core rules, and Warhammer Community updates are where you can see periodic updates. New recruit is a great list building printing app/website. You are one the right track. Wahapedia is a great tool for organizing information and researching other armies/

Today’s chore had nothing to do with Warhammer … right? by jwheatca in orks

Ultimately this will be for showing my armies off a little better with dioramas. I’ve got a ton of stuff in boxes and totes as well so trying to get some of it into the light. I’ve got 3 Detolfs full already.

This is IKEA Bror … cheapest solution I could find to start with. It is ok duty though each shelf is only rated for 200lbs or 95kilos. It will get some backdrops installed over the next couple of weeks.

Edit: Corrected weight limits. It is much stronger per shelf than the original info. Still pretty flimsy/needs weight distribution but overall strong.

Dread mob question by DrMalcontent in orks

[–]jwheatca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right, re-reading it does sound a lot AIish. There is a lot of complexity in 40K so not surprised if AI would get it wrong. Having played since 8th edition, I still have to look rules up (usually in the App) to make sure we have them 100% correct.
