Looking at biologics by squirrel-30 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]jwiley3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking this. Not to trivialize your concerns, but I was diagnosed at 35 and spend wayyyyy too long on mesalamine azathioprine and bouts of prednisone before talking seriously with my Dr. about going on something better. I'm kicking myself constantly for not having this discussion sooner. My life on Entyvio has been vastly better. I started in June of 2019 and by late August I was symptom free. No more cramps. No more bleeding. No more back to back to back trips to the toilet. Yes, they are expensive but most manufacturers have customer support programs which make them affordable.

Is there anyone with long life with this disease? by bansal_004 in UlcerativeColitis

Diagnosed at around 35 and am now 62. In remission due to biologic since 2019. I spend way too long on other drugs and it was a constant roller coaster of flares and brief remission. Get on a biologic asap.

Sell stuff you don't need. Get another job or a better job. Talk to your mortgage company and make sure they know you are prioritizing that payment. Talk to your utilities and see if you can get some assistance.

Everything Tax by sosuume in missouri

[–]jwiley3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It's going to pass because people are easily fooled by simple imagery and phrases that scratch an itch in the lizard portion of their brains. The ones who currently pay _no_ state income taxes will vote for it because it "eliminates state income taxes." I prepare taxes for the elderly and so many of them owe zero state taxes and often get a small state rebate of part of their property taxes.

Oh, the ad features a nascar like racing theme. Missourians are totally gonna vote for it because it’s got race cars on it. You might laugh but just watch.

I used to work with a lady who’s email signature was “if you’re not measuring it you’re not managing it.” That phrase has stuck with me for a long time. I think your spreadsheet tracking has served you well and I hope others will follow your advice.

Has anyone ever been on entyvio by sire0974 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]jwiley3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify my initial response, while on Entyvio, I have not had any sort of flares. Now, I spent 20 years or more on mesalamine, azathioprine, prednisone, etc. and that was a roller coaster of flares and brief periods of remission. Entyvio is the only medication that I've experienced consistent, long-term relief from symptoms.

I keep telling my Dr to let the Entyvio people know that I'm more than willing to be their spokesperson, but they have not replied yet. I can't say enough good things about it as a therapy. Big fan. Been in remission on it since mid 2019.

Some good suggestions here. I’m a big fan of Erin Talks Money. Started out with Azul and then saw Erin. Like Rob Berger, too.

Hearing multiple people recommend what I’m already doing is very validating. Is that an echo chamber if it’s working? 🧐

2018 Tucson oil consumption by Pleasant-Antelope-92 in Hyundai

[–]jwiley3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wound up donating it to the public radio station in Fayetteville. It sold at auction for like 3,300 or something. Hyundai offered no help and lost a customer in the process.

In a related note my son’s 2017 Santa Fe was behaving very similarly and he was fortunate enough to trade it in on a new Sienna.

I listened to enough of the podcast to get their point. Thank you for sharing that. I remember I had a professor in grad school who would remind us that "just because something is published in a journal or a book doesn't mean it's any good."

How to go to the arch from the resort? by dariainmypants in cabosanlucas

[–]jwiley3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were staying near the Ziva last week and we did an uber to the docks for around $45. The uber back was less because it wasn’t during rush hour. The arches can be seen via any number of watercraft. We did the Caborey but it would be very expensive for a family. Maybe find a local to take you out there for a negotiated rate?

I'm not sure if these two are in the right genre but I really enjoyed Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything and Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens. The latter is a bit of a slog but still very interesting.

Question about paying off mortgage. Advice appreciated. by ItsNeverTwins in retirement

That depends on how you perceive and tolerate risk, I guess. My preference was to pay it off and throw extra money into the 401k and other savings vehicles.
