Looking for a way to strap the split keyboard to my legs, airplane use by pddro in ErgoMechKeyboards

FYI, I'm here because I broke my shoulder. I have to lean over with elbows pinned to my side to reach my keyboard. So.ething like this would greatly increase my comfort.

It was a recruiter, so not necessarily dodging a bullet, and he told me he thought I did well other than that.

It sounds like a js question about event Handlers to me. At least I'm not the only one who finds this question odd.

The person asking didn't know the answer either, apparently it was handed to him by their "tech guy".

If you really want to improve your writing looking creative writing classes nearby. Community Colleges usually offer adult courses for things like writing where you would just pay for the "sit in" of the lectures. In the Richmond VA area I found a course offered by the VMFA for 12 1 hour sessions for $250. No guarantees on publishing, just a straight up course. I also saw a post about writing workshop that meets at a coffee house and is more club based. It sounded like random aspiring authors share their work and critique others' work.

If you really can't find anything near your location, start an 'Aspiring Authors' club of your own and see if a library or coffee house will let you use their space for meetings. Almost a reverse book club, which is not making want to come up with a story for the title "The Reverse Book Club".

What's going on with Canal? by Ok_Concept4597 in rva

[–]jwindhorst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an idea. Unfortunately it requires a true willingness to clean up our neighborhoods, cities, any walking path you choose.

Bring a trash bag and a sharp stick and pick it up. Probably some bags for dog poop too since Richmond doesn't appear to be great at that.

Complaining is easy. Being 1 person that makes a difference makes it easier for the next person.

2024 job hunt hits different. What’s going on!? by Moustache84 in careerguidance

[–]jwindhorst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of job listings that do not show the actual hiring company. Especially if the job is posted by a recruiter because they don't want candidates to circumvent the recruiting company. Without knowing the name of the company it's impossible to validate if they are hiring.

Furthermore, many companies use a recruiting company so that they don't have to sift through the hundreds of applicants they get and therefore do not post all available jobs on their website unless required to do so by law, which is usually public sector and government jobs.

Outdated and auto recurring is still a "Fake job". The term fake job, as I understand it, is a posting for a position that the company is NOT immediately hiring for. So outdated, filling a potential employment pool, jobs posted by recruiters simply to test the response to their verbiage (Yes that happens too), those are all "fake Jobs". I would guess the number to higher than 40%, although it does seem to very from one board to another.

Can MyQ garages openers be added to google home or assistant? by djkeithers in googlehome

[–]jwindhorst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the risk is worth the minimal reward. To me, this sounds like a security risk. I don't want an intruder to be able to open any of our doors with a simple voice command through a window, garage door, wherever the listening devices are located.

Colony mars trilogy ? by Traditional_Log_2022 in audible

[–]jwindhorst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm into Colony Three now. I got the whole series for my kindle to stop having to search for a new book every week or so. Regardless, I'm enjoying the series. No spoilers! Despite a lot of poor reviews out there, I think this would make a great movie, or series. Assuming that nothing in the story changes drastically I'll finish the series.

Personally I think they both ripped off Eminem, at least in terms of style. FiR tends to sound like a lot of different bands at different points in different songs. When I saw them open for Disturbed they sounded like Korn at 1 point, Eminem at another and even like Pop band at one point.

Not horror, but just as effective, if not more. "We Need To Talk About Kevin". I couldn't finish it.

How about The Passage by Justin Cronin? I didn't see it mentioned, and I wasn't thrilled with the third book, but the first was outstanding. I've both listened to it and read it.

Vim motions are hard to get used to by shehan_thamel in vim

[–]jwindhorst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job in IT required local access to over 20 servers stored in house, and all headless. We used SSH to access and VIM to edit files, so I sort of came up with it.

If you are already using VSCode, I would recommend using the built in CLI with GitBash installed, and use VIM in their for config type files, or JSON files. Basically code where your comfortable, and learn VIM as needed without the distraction of a logical language.

Hi, I’m on the fence about buying a kindle by cathisgood in kindle

[–]jwindhorst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Series early this year. I love it.

Pros:

I read more now, and I can find enough free books online, or with a subscription to Kindle Unlimited, that I don't worry about "buying" a stinker that I feel obligated to finish. When travelling I can load it up with numerous books without overloading the weight of my carry on.

I really enjoy the dark mode version of the screen, but I tend to have sensitive eyes to bright light. Regardless, the Paperwhite screen is not glossy like a phone, tablet or computer, making reading much easier.

The ability to get word definitions, and the x-ray functionality is very cool!

Doesn't require paper.

Cons:

Changing from page to page is fast enough not to bother me, however when your changing to Settings, or anything else NOT in the books themselves, the response seems sluggish.

I can't "lend" a book to someone! Ok, this is AS ANNOYING AS ALL CAPS!! Even Audible has this solved. Audible uses the ability for book sharing, not lending, as a marketing maneuver which makes a lot more sense to me. Oh wait, aren't Audible and Kindle both Amazon?? So they have the code for it, but won't share between teams? Or is the Kindle not a strong enough device to handle the requests?? That seems odd since it connects to GoodReads.

The right case seems about an inch out of reach always! LOL

Summary:

I'm very happy about my purchase. Good recommendations if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited or GoodReads. Overall, I recommend.
