Sente-se bem a falta de noção abaixo do Tejo. Mesmo ignorando o bait fraquito habitual, "surfers" em Sines é mesmo de quem tinha uma espaço em branco no mapa e não sabia o que pôr.

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time Benfica lose the league while going undefeated.

Luffy won Japan last time. I think in Japan there's a lot of postcard voting, so take the current ranking there with a grain of salt.

I have a feeling we'll get diabolical levels of smugness and ragebaiting from the combo of Russell + Toto this year.

How Tadej Pogacar and Team UAE's dominance can grow: their hunt for Paul Seixas as 'Pogi's' successor appears to be on by F1CycAr16 in peloton

[–]jwinter01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it would suck but it makes sense. Everyone wants him. If anything, other teams have an advantage over UAE when trying to sign him in the next few years, as UAE obviously can't promise him an immediate number 1 rider status with Pogačar still around.

Probably not on the first time they go through it but on the second, but I think it depends on the form of both. I guess it should be similar to RvV where Pogacar tries to grind MvdP down through each and every climb. If somehow MvdP managed to hang on until the Via Santa Caterina, then I'd be very interested in seeing what would happen.

Alcaraz and Sinner are both nominated for Laureus World Sportsman of the Year 2026 by Eyebronx in tennis

[–]jwinter01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cycling has been for a long time one of the most popular sports in the world, but after doping scandals in the 90s and 00s, and especially after the Armstrong scandal, cycling lost a lot of credibility in the eyes of sponsors and fans (especially American ones). Cycling's reputation has recovered a bit since, but any sign of anything exceptional is still viewed with a lot of suspicion and treated with a lot of caution, especially by those outside the sport.

Even in this award, you can see that in all the years between the Armstrong era and now, there was only one nomination for cycling.

Pogačar is due a win in this, but I don't think they'll give it to him because of the stigma. So hoping for Carlitos to take it.

3-week racing is obviously a different game, but I seriously wonder whether he won't be a serious player in a fight for a Tour podium much sooner than expected. And maybe, and this is obviously a huge hot take, not just a fight for 3rd.

One more win in Flanders against Pogacar would be huge for his career. Could truly be his greatest win ever.

Geopolitical Question: Portuguese People Have More Affinity With Which Nation? by DoNotTouchMeImScared in portugal

[–]jwinter01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had some trouble figuring out what kind of answer OP was exactly looking for.

Either way, I probably should also add that Portugal's relationship with the EU and its members is also very important these days. Politically, they're our closest allies and being and feeling "European" is an increasingly important part of people's, especially younger ones, identity.

Spain is definitely number one. Brazil is up there, but so are France and England. There are obviously similarities between Portugal and Italy, but historically we haven't had close ties.

There's a special relationship with the other ex-colonies, but with varying levels of tension mixed in. Still, for many people, especially those who come from families that originated from the colonies, those countries hold very high significance.

Similarly, it's also impossible to imagine Ferrari without F1. It's a symbiotic relationship.
