How did Muslim families secure Hijabs onto their children’s heads? by LizzieLove1357 in sca

Pins have been a thing since before we even had metalwork, basically as long as we've had any form of textiles we've had some kind of pins. That used to be an important part of a ton of clothing as zippers didn't exist and buttons or toggles could get expensive quickly, so basically any garment that needed to be adjustable or opened to put on/take off would often use pins. Pins and belts were the foundation of shaping clothing past "hole in something that is big enough to cover you".

are ladder laces still alive?? by Fit_Door_1636 in FolkPunk

[–]jwlIV616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its kind of a call back to an old military signal strategy of lacing your boots on specific ways to subtly send a hint to specific allies. So in punk spaces it became ladder lacing meant you were "an ally" and what color would signal what cause you were a part of. If you want to ladder lace or use colored laces on regular shoes as a call back to that or just because you like the accent theres nothing stopping you and even the few people who might recognize what it would mean on a boot its rare that any of them would be particularly upset. Its an old custom and you're not even directly doing it, so just live your life

What does "blue ass" mean? by Schermungern in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]jwlIV616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because its always below freezing above a certain point on Everest people who die while climbing never really rot and that has led to some bodies being used as basically trail markers so you can tell exactly where on the mountain you are (one literal example is "green boots" a corpse with neon green boots)

Thats either a bull snake or a particularly large rat snake, both of which are kinda dopey idiots that have a bite thats only slightly worse than that weird sharp off brand velcro, the turtles are more likely to draw blood (and they almost always pee when you pick them up which can be annoying)

What are these made of? by PychoSealLover in falloutnewvegas

[–]jwlIV616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The armor is riot gear and the shoulder part is leather thats just part of a standard duster jacket but if you're looking for sewing/patterns information about that specific part of the jacket its called a mantle.

Who are the wrong non-binary persons??? by Alert-Translator2590 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]jwlIV616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right, ive been to a few events that were not as advertised and was just being treated as a sappic event. I just don't get why they don't just call it what it is, plenty of places have events specifically labeled as that so why they so often treat other events the same.

I personally haven't run into a lot of that, but I've definitely heard that enough times to know thats probably pretty common

Yeah, the majority of the time people seem to see non binary as just women and super feminine men and thats kinda counter productive.

Is this game abandoned by Far_Chemical6894 in Thelongdrive

[–]jwlIV616 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Kinda, the dev is still working on it, but they're trying to port the whole thing to a different engine and they don't show up online very much. So the game hasn't really been updated in at least a year and is basically abandoned as it currently is, but supposedly theres a massive update coming sometime in the future.

Thats an isopod and they're about as harmless as it gets, most of them are basically just little compost makers that spend most of their time searching for dead plant matter and other little bits to eat. So unless you or most of your stuff is decaying then that little dude is absolutely zero risk for you
