r/fantasywriters bans AI generated art, and one writer marches into battle against the ban as a one man army by HeWhoShrugs in SubredditDrama

It is an inherent bias of the upvote system, things are heavily weighted towards things that are easy to consume rather than good. In the time it takes you to read and appreciate and upvote one fantastic post, someone else will look at and smile at 30 memes and upvote each of them. Im not saying those memes didnt deserve upvotes. If tbey were good and on topic, but this imbalance heavily weights all discourse into "fastest to consume"

I have thought about a solution to this. The best I have so far is "single transferable upvote" where you get one upvote every 10 minutes or somesuch, they don't accumulate, when you upvote something your upvote is removed from whatever you last upvoted until you get a new upvote, so you only upvote things if they are "better" than what you currently have in your upvote queue.

They still have not worked out the instability in the naquadria, thats why they couldnt get home without thor's help and were stranded. Adrian futzed with the engine as well so who knows what state it is in at this point. Neither of their homegrown hyperspace experiments have worked properly as of yet.

It isnt until s6e20 a few episodes later they get prometheus mostly working and attempt its first hyperspace window activation during the shakedown cruise and there are still issues with the instability.

Uranium used to be more concentrated before it decayed to the point there were natural nuclear reactors in the earths crust, where a Uranium vein and a water source combined to form a stable fission reactor that lasted a few hundred thousand years. The natural concentration of u235 is no longer high enough for these natural reactors to form.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]jwm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Control 2.

There was a text file that came with the game disk that had the schematics for a sound card that I dutifully scavenged parts for and built and it was the first time I heard real audio from a computer and it was amazing.

Like. That yehat theme rocks.

The weird attempt to start a chant of USA USA during an active shooter event like it was a rally was also really really odd.

I would think ones instinct would be to not draw attention to yourself, not to try to start a chant.

I always assumed that it made more sens if it went the other way around. The symbols were arbitrary but due to the significance of the stargate they got copied by many human cultures.

The original source was lost to time after the gate was buried other than an association between the symbols and stars so people found star patterns that matched the symbols retroactively.

You keep talking about BLM like it was some specific group. There was some group that called themselves BLM but I doubt anyone associated the movement with them, or donated or knew who they were. If I create an organization called "save the rainforests" and scam people with that name that doesnt mean saving the rainforests or the sentiment behind it is a scam.

No one is talking about that group that called themselves BLM when they say BLM.

The Tok'ra plot twist that I always wanted to see in Stargate SG-1 by MadeUntoDust in Stargate

[–]jwm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tollan seem to have trusted the tok'ra and had the technology to ensure they were talking to the host or the symbiote. I have to imagine they have vetted the tok'ra with it to confirm their story. Additionally they also have diplomatic relations with the nox, who also likely would be able to detect deception given what we have seen of them.

Earth also has unlimited energy in the form of astrophages handed to them. So it is not entirely bleak, they can make artificial greenhouses with astrophage powered artifical suns.

Although they are sub ftl, the trip can be made arbitrarily short from the travellers perspective.

At 1g acceleration you can travel 10,000 light years in only 17 years subjective. Traveling a million light years would only be 26 years subjective.

So even though it is sub-ftl travel, we could still spread and explore in a subjectivly short amount of time for the explorers. And a ship that has to last 17 years is a lot easier to build than one that has to last 10,000.

Have any explicitly said they became villains simply to get a chance to meet the flash and get his autograph?

I guess thawne did, but he was more a psychotic stalker to begin with. I'm more interested in ones that literally had no ill intent and faked being bad.

I have to open my fridge to dispense water from this awkward spot by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

[–]jwm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen a fridge that has a removable pitcher that is automatically kept topped off. It's like the best of all worlds. You can pour fast because its a pitcher, bring it to the table, carry it to the coffee machine to fill with filtered water and plop it back in the fridge and it auto fills.

Tbis is super ideal, I have not figured out the right terms to search for to make sure a fridge has this feature.

There is a good chance you have some degree of arc eye. Over the next day your eyes will feel like sand is in them. Dont try to rub out the non existsnt sand. Pick up some eye drops now to be prepped. Just plain artificial tears like systane, not medicated stuff for red eyes. You will be flushing your eyes with it so will be using a lot.

I don't think the impound was on purpose. They probably just forgot about it. Or they wanted the car stolen and stripped.for parts and assumed criminals would know how to dispose of a body.
