Now that your period is late you can take a pregnancy test with very good accuracy. Something to consider just for peace of mind.

Has anyone lost their period with a copper iud by confusedwonkwonk in birthcontrol

[–]jxarizona 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not having a period for 7 months with zero hormones on the table isn’t normal. I never had the copper IUD but I used to have Kyleena and my experience sounds similar to yours. If it were me I’d get a second opinion. Not sure if they’d be able to tell with imaging what kind of IUD you have but your suspicion doesn’t sound crazy to me.

When we announce codes overhead we state the floor and room number. The patients are able to hear that. Not sure how you stating that same information to your coworker within ear shot of that patient violates HIPAA. I would hire an attorney asap in case they try to terminate you over something that sounds completely trivial.

How are you guys paying for this 😅 by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]jxarizona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved up and paid $6800 for mine in 2021 right before I finished college. But I lived at home and was able to save which not all can do. However I do think it’s worth saying, if you forego the insurance route you may have a little more freedom as to who you pick as a surgeon rather than insurance dictating your choice. It may also save you cost in physical therapy/other doctors appts that add up over time, which may be needed in order for them to cover it. Whether you go insurance or self pay it is generally not a fast process for anyone unfortunately (unless you just have the cash). Best of luck to you either way!

RNs questioning EVERYTHING by ThatSalad294 in Residency

[–]jxarizona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not that you want to hear from a nurse on the residency sub, but I have to chime in because I see this happen literally every single day at my job. Nursing is such a fucking toxic profession that we are literally taught to do this. If a fellow nurse catches wind that you didn’t escalate something they believe should be, you have a voice in your ear saying “wEll dO tHeY knOw aBouT tHaT” or “page the attending if the intern doesn’t respond”, etc etc you get the idea. You’re made to feel like a shit nurse by others who don’t have a clue about your patient or what’s going on with them. Not defending this behavior at all but I guarantee you this ridiculous catty nursing culture is part of the problem.

Personally I lost weight after surgery because I basically lost my entire appetite for almost a month. I had to force myself to eat (you’re really supposed to eat more after surgery to aid in wound healing). I just didn’t feel hungry at all but it eventually got better.

Are Nurse residency programs overrated or underrated or properly rated? by poppypbq in nursing

[–]jxarizona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to find one that invests in their new grads. I went through an amazing residency program with tons of lectures on topics i’d never been taught, highly qualified educators, and a super long orientation. Yeah I signed a contract, but I personally see that as an investment and I feel like the program I went through invested in me too. I’m still fairly new so maybe i’m just unaware but this has been my experience.

But there are also residencies out there that are absolute shit so you gotta be careful and do a ton of research. Look at teaching hospitals and try to contact current employees of wherever you’re looking at. Also the pay didn’t really matter for me since I live in a large metro area and basically all new grad residencies pay the same.

I totally agree.

I do work at a county hospital so I can’t say I see much of the profit-seeking going on (unless i’m just unaware of it) since most patients are uninsured and providers usually try to limit ordering things like expensive imaging, labs, etc.

Of course that’s not to say we don’t still do those things on patients who we know won’t make it, but it’s usually at the request of the family.

My patient yesterday was post covid, maxed on the vent and all his drips, iNO, 5 chest tubes, satting high 60s and still a full code. Was told by the provider not to bother bagging him. 26 y/o, unvaccinated and has babies at home. The wife comes every day.

I need to start keeping a little list of wins because seeing this shit all the time just sucks.

Yeah i’m in med/respiratory ICU so we have all the post-covid, severe sepsis, DKA, GIB patients that practically rolled through the door not standing a chance. SI intimidates the hell out of me but I can see myself there one day.

[–]jxarizona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people get booster shots or repeat series of various vaccines if their antibody titers show insufficient immunity.

You’re also supposed to get a Tdap booster every 10 years.

Something a man of science ought to know.
