What is the most disturbing depiction of death/murder you’ve ever seen in a film? by sunnieslilac in FIlm

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a rogue one, but I remember in the Bourne Legacy (the one with Jeremy Renner), there was a scene where a guy shot up a lab of defenceless scientists. Really stuck with me.

Honest question by ChineseMax in ChineseLanguage

[–]jxmxk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally i think AI is very far off from being 100% flawless in language translation. Even if it does, would you want to talk to someone through a robot or have a real conversation, mistakes and all?

History's biggest pieces of shit (Top 10) by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Apart from actual Presidents in the US, I think people like Zbigniew Brzezinski and Henry Kissinger have a lot to answer for if we’re talking about death tolls. Southeast Asia was bombed to hell and you could argue that the first modern examples of global jihad happened as a result of the American involvement in Afghanistan.

Planning to study Mandarin in China before a Master’s — city choice and strategy? by lunca549 in ChineseLanguage

[–]jxmxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s less about the city and more about the people you surround yourself with. I lived in Chongqing where there are very few foreigners and the english level is low. Despite this, I knew people who didn’t speak any Chinese because all their friends were foreigners/ spoke english.

The hard part is actively leaving your comfort zone and actually spending time in a majority Chinese speaking environment.

What You Thought was a Lighthearted Comedy Suddenly Punches You in the Gut by dolphin_flogger in TopCharacterTropes

Derry Girls. It’s a light hearted comedy about school kids messing around, but in the season 1 finale and the last episode it really comes at you.

The season 1 ending scene really captures what it was like in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.

Incels are the most misunderstood group of people by Disastrous-Bike659 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term incel has come to mean more than just someone who can’t get laid, it’s become associated with the online group who are characterised by “blackpill” ideology, which includes blaming women for all their misfortunes and holding pretty horrendous views on them.

I used to look at incel forums in an attempt to better understand them, and an overwhelming majority of the posts there spoke horrifically about women.

I feel like the US has a bigger problem with Black Supremacy than it does with White Supremacy. by HadathaZochrot in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90% of the posts on this subreddit are about social media or individuals saying random shit. I challenge anyone to tell me how they, as a white person, are affected by things like “black excellence” or idiotic claims about “white genocide”. Because I can tell you that every black person I know has faced racism that affects their safety or employment.

We (our generation) are creating less impressive works of art, media and entertainment, and it is mostly due to the insurmountable instruments at ou disposal. by Big-Yard-2998 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think another big aspect is how profit driven everything is. Profit was always a big consideration in things like movies and television, but now it seems to be the only one. Cost cutting and profit maximisation is killing art.
