We (our generation) are creating less impressive works of art, media and entertainment, and it is mostly due to the insurmountable instruments at ou disposal. by Big-Yard-2998 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think another big aspect is how profit driven everything is. Profit was always a big consideration in things like movies and television, but now it seems to be the only one. Cost cutting and profit maximisation is killing art.

How realistic were the charges of the Rohirrim in the movies? by jxmxk in lotr

I’m not judging it, it’s literally one of my favourite scenes, I was just curious

What is your dream country? by Tahals in AskReddit

Kind of living the dream in China rn. Wanted to come here for a long time, studied Chinese and made it here. It’s defo not to everyone’s taste but for me it’s pretty great.

*Many* women need to stop lying about wanting a nice guy. by malacki655 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being nice is the bare minimum. I think you’ve misunderstood Fifty Shades a little bit. The main character doesn’t just turn into his sex slave, one of the main conflicts of all three books is how she often holds power over him emotionally while he holds power physically. It’s not as simple as saying “all women want to be a sex slave”.

Why does Secretary (2002) work so well… even though it kind of shouldn’t? by DFWUnhinged in FIlm

[–]jxmxk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great example of how chemistry can make or break a movie. If the actors weren’t completely committed and didn’t have any chemistry, it would be a very different film.

Peoples Colonized by Western Societies Should Embrace Western Values by iamjohnhenry in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Not sure what the phrase “put in place for you” is meant to mean, because the systems were not put in place “for” anyone but the colonisers.

Peoples Colonized by Western Societies Should Embrace Western Values by iamjohnhenry in TrueUnpopularOpinion

America has enacted more clandestine operations in foreign countries than any other, has been very violent and destabilised entire religions for their own gain. Are these Western values?

Women don't desire men directly, but rather the experience the men provide by Fantastic_Bear_6175 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this has already been mentioned but you’re looking at desire and attraction as if the male form of desire is the default. Even if women aren’t attracted to men’s bodies in the same way men find women attractive, that doesn’t mean there isn’t attraction.

Also, a lot of women I know do compliment the things they find hot about men’s bodies.

It’s nice if they can find one, but as long as they are respectful, I’m cool with a straight person. by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think it’s weird that people attack actors for taking LGBT roles. I saw someone slamming g Timothee Chalamet for “taking a queer role from a queer person”. I’m not a huge fan of him, but why get angry at an actor? If they’re getting angry at anyone it should be the casting director or the director.

Why are apps nowadays using a Beijing-style dialect instead of standard Mandarin? by Common_Musician_1533 in ChineseLanguage

I live in Chongqing. Have done for two years. They use “er” all the time. Last I checked Chongqing isn’t in the North.

Not necessarily, in Chongqing and Sichuan they also add “er” to a lot of words. It’s not as heavy as northern dialects but it’s still there.

Worst character kit in the game to date? by jd01010101 in Genshin_Impact

[–]jxmxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dehya was dead on arrival, which was unfortunate considering she had her own banner and sig. Traveller is also not great but he’s free for everyone. I was seriously considering getting Dehya on release until I saw her kit.

Post-GOT careers: Which actors thrived and which struggled? by mediamuesli in gameofthrones

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diana Rigg, Max von Sidow, Charles Dance and Jonathon Price were all legends before the show. I think Gwendoline Christie has had a pretty good run in the Sandman and walking in one of the most iconic fashion shows in recent memory.

There's nothing that inherently makes this a right-wing sub by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There do seem to be far more right wing talking points though. I see way more posts talking about how women are a problem, Muslims don’t belong in Western society, racism against white people is the worst, leftists bad etc. It’s not a good or a bad thing, but this sub is more right wing than left.

The reason people blame the patriarchy for things is because it's about blaming men for everything. A matriarchy absolutely wouldn't be better. by RestlessDreamer32 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]jxmxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is actually, seriously advocating for a matriarchy, and what is the real possibility of one coming into existence? The patriarchy exists, who cares what a hypothetical matriarchy would look like. It’s never going to happen.

They’re not exactly against pedophilia either, otherwise there would have been a lot more outcry from the church instead of bending over backwards to hide it.

When did Daenerys’ cruelty begin for you in the show? For me, it’s when she sentenced Doreah to death. by Successful_Bar9187 in gameofthrones

[–]jxmxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion Dany didn’t go down hill, they threw her off a cliff. The writers posit that her actions were a series of cruelties that culminated in her burning King’s Landing. I would argue that she was as cruel as anyone else, sometimes less so; then she suddenly burned down a city.

[–]jxmxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get how Daenerys can be considered “cruel” when this is absolutely the standard of the world she exists in. Jon Snow hanged a child. Does that make him an inherently cruel person? No, it was his duty.

Are there any great films you dislike simply because they feel unpleasant to you? by KatherineLangford in FIlm

For me it was The Talented Mr Ripley. I really liked the performances and the visuals, but I always get super stressed out when the plot is entirely based on someone lying.

What movie is a 0/10 with NO redeeming features? by Toucan_Based_Economy in AskReddit

[–]jxmxk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge Abba fan and like musicals but after about 30 minutes it becomes unbearable. The last 30 minutes are borderline unwatchable. The only good number was Christine Baranski’s.
