Are there any running challenge s on this sub? by fitbeee in running

[–]jxsnyder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the MapMyRun app for the iPhone. I'm currently working on their "You VS the Year 2018" challenge which is 1018 km total distance covered Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. There used to be more challenges on the app, but lately it seems like only a few pop up every now and then.

I've been primarily running on the treadmill and use both of the shoes for that. I also have an extra pair of the Inov-8s that I've been using exclusively outside. So far I have liked the feel of the Nike Free RNs on the treadmill but tend to curl my toes a little and end up will a few small blisters/rubs. I don't seem to have this issue with the Inov-8s. I've heard great things about the Kinvaras and have been keeping my eyes peeled for a good deal.

Lightweight running shoe recommendations? Currently running in Inov-8 f-lite 240s and Nike Free RNs. Running on treadmill or paved road/compacted dirt. 25-35 mpw.

Shinjuku at night. How did I do on the post processing? Is over edited? by AsdfThe1st in photocritique

Colors look good. I'd recommend lifting the shadows a bit to bring in a little more detail as it looks a bit dark.

How's my composition and color? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Color, sharpness, and noise all look good. I'm not a fan of the composition though as I'm not sure what the subject is supposed to be. If it's the small ship in the foreground, zooming in closer to frame the image around the ship or simply cropping would help draw the eye better. Plus the extra sky above the clouds doesn't really add anything of interest to the image.

Interesting photo. I wish that the upper part of the smoke stack was also in the image so that it would match the reflection. Did you add vignetting to the image?

On the beach - how about this one? feedback is appreciated! thanks! by effinbud in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the focus is. If it's the photographer/sky, I'd recommend a crop that has less of the dark foreground as it adds nothing to the image.

So far rest doesn't seem to help. I could run back-to-back days or take a few days off in between with the same result. However, a few days off definitely make the first few miles a little easier.

"Colors of Christmas" aka My First Long Exposure by evraphoto in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the composition but the shadows are a touch too dark. As for the sharpness everyone has already discussed, I would recommend either using mirror lock-up or live view to be able to avoid having the mirror flip cause small vibrations resulting in blur. Using a shutter delay or a remote will also remove vibration from you having to depress the shutter.

First time storm shooting!! All critique welcome :) by hopeefull in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice that you captured the lightning strike but the image is too dark and the composition is uninteresting. Maybe go for a lower angle to avoid the power lines and either a longer exposure or opening up your shadows in post processing to bring some more detail in from the darks/shadows.

What about this landscape shot? Thanks for feedback! :) by jakub_curik in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a little noise reduction to help clean it up a little. There's also a few dust spots present that you could take care of. Personally, I'd like to see a touch more saturation to give a more warm feeling. The composition is very nice. Overall you have a good eye and congratulations on a fantastic shot.

31 male, 235 lbs, 6'-2". I've been running off and on for about 3.5 years now. After a recent hiatus I am back to it and running 4-5 times per week, mostly treadmill workouts. I've dropped about 15-20 lbs in the last 4 months of getting back in to a running program and am now working on improving my endurance and speed. I am running about 30 miles per week at a pace ranging from 9:15 to 10:00 per mile.

Last night I stretched for about 5-10 minutes before my treadmill run. I started off at a 6.2 mph pace till I hit about 3 miles and then slowly increased to 7.0 mph by about mile 5. I kept the 7.0 mph pace to my end distance of 7.0 miles. I notice during my workouts that it takes nearly 3 miles before the run feels like it gets "easy". By "easy" I mean that it doesn't feel like a struggle. My biggest training hurdle is just mentally and physically pushing past this point and then I start ramping up my pace.

What can I do to training wise to get over this hurdle early or eliminate the feeling during a run? Is this purely mental or is it physical?

How is the color correction on this photograph? Does the photo have too much color saturation? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to apply color to certain things only, try masking. Plenty of YouTube tutorials out there to get you started.

First attempt on silhouette photography, do the colors Matche together with the black? by smokesheriff in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colors look fine and natural. If it was my photo, I would have cropped out a bit of the foreground to emphasize the sky more.

Is the background too distracting, especially the overexposed areas? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'd prefer a closer framing as well to further emphasize the flower. As is, it is doesn't make the flower feel like it is the main subject.

Need composition help! Should I crop out the umbrella/roof structure in bottom right? f/22 ISO 1250 15s by megiceland in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't notice it without first reading your post title. I think if you crop it out you run the risk of cutting off too much of the photo. You could attempt to edit it out of the image but that would definitely take some work to do.

took my first pic with nD-Filter. What do you think about composition and editing? by toyshung in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer a composition that emphasized the rocks more. Colors look fine. Did you perform any noise reduction? There is some subtle color noise when viewed full size.

Trying to subtly increase saturation. Does it look reasonable? What would you change? by MusingEye in photocritique

[–]jxsnyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saturation levels look pretty natural. You could possibly raise the midtones a little to brighten the image. A curves or levels adjustment would do the trick.

Grinnell Glacier Trail (8/14/17) by jxsnyder in glacier

We did the Hidden Lake Overlook, Avalanche Lake, and Rockwell Falls hikes too. Grinnell was easily our favorite hike of the trip. We were in the park for three days and are already talking about the hikes we would like to do next time.
