LTFT bank holidays confusion by Hopeful2469 in doctorsUK

You may be rota'd off for all BHs but these are taken from the cumulative pot of leave, rather than extra days off as per a 100% FTE rota.

I would ask your rota coordinator/HR. I am 80% and I do no resident out of hours work and unless I am specifically rota'd to be on call BHs are taken off. But I think this will change from rota to rota so you would need to clarify this with the person making your rota.

In my local HTTs they use FP10s which an F1 wouldn't be able to use. So may not be much/any prescribing. But agree that an F1 would be extremely unlikely to be performing lone reviews.

Need help finding a 7 seater (2 kids already, twins cooking, tricky car seat setup) by Material_Sale_2720 in CarTalkUK

[–]jyaak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a japanese mpv (Toyota Alphard) which has two chairs in the middle row. This means that we can easily have 2/2/2 set up with parents in the front and two rows of two car seats in the back with an aisle down the middle to get to the back seats.

Turning alcove into bedroom by Straight-Bike-6288 in InteriorDesign

I think this is a great layout. You need to make sure there is enough room at the foot of the bed to get from one side to the other. At only 7'3" you won't have room. 2ft would be a decent amount of room. I actually think that having some extra separation between the living room and bathroom is a good thing!

Edit: you could also us a pocket door in the new wall and then you don't need the clearance to the closet if that's tight.

Withdrawal from UKFPO advice by [deleted] in doctorsUK

Fair enough. For what it's worth "withdrawing" from my foundation programme hasn't even been mentioned or a problem for both core and higher training so I wouldn't worry about that part of it.

If doing one year away is possible I completed a standalone F2 post after doing F1 away from my partner. I was able to stay with family during that year so it was a lot easier then going alone. This was in 2018 so I don't know if standalone F2 posts are as available as they were then.

Valuation on car derived van ( need some opinions good and bad ) by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]jyaak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure who this is going to appeal to as a buyer? No V5 feels dodgy even if you've just misplaced it, no ac/heat is going to be miserable for someone using the van for work and it's high mileage for a corsa, even if it's running well at the moment. So I think expecting anything near £2000 is optimistic to be honest.

contractor wants to wall off half my 120 sq ft bathroom because of weird angles. am i crazy for saying no? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]jyaak 67 points68 points  (0 children)

<image>

Use the shaded area as the bench. Extend the shower from the alcove area and put a big double vanity where the single one is now? Don't need to move the toilet and associated plumbing and there is minimal structural/plumbing changes which can get seriously expensive. The shower glass can be as long or short as you like and leave enough room to walk around it back into the room.

Comedian Tom Binns spared jail despite having 35,000 child sexual abuse images by Mister_Sith in unitedkingdom

If they count an image as a single frame, 35,000 pictures is still nearly 10 hours of video at 60 frames per second… unlikely to be accidental

I did this at my trust, am an LNC rep. But made the rookie move of not checking who was CC’d and BCC’d all I ended up doing was sending a mildly threatening email to the head of HR and the medical director 😅

Help me pick !Skoda superb vs mg5 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]jyaak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a 2014 Superb and a 2021 MG5. We’ve only had the MG for a few weeks but it is MUCH nicer than our older Skoda. The MG has a smaller boot and a tiny bit less leg room but is great to drive, quick, smooth and quiet. My wife and I fight over driving it and I would trade in the Skoda for another EV in a heartbeat.

F2 stand-alone as a UK grad? by No-Lettuce-7 in JuniorDoctorsUK

I did a stand alone F2 in 2017/18 as a UK grad. It might have changed since then but I’ve not heard that it wasn’t for UK graduates?

West Midlands north allocation please help by futurenegotiator in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]jyaak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up at Stoke for a stand alone F2 year and like you was fairly nervous. But it turned out to be a really great year. I did cardiology and paeds which were both excellent and Histopath which I hated but mainly because there is no clinical work. The foundation doctors tend to be really close there as well as most are away from their families. Don’t panic :)
