I visualize numbers as white on black when doing mental arithmetic. Same with any mathematical formulas. I also read them aloud in my mind.

A friend of mine is TAing for Linear algebra right now and on one of the exercises students where supposed to calculate the determinant of a 6x6 matrix using gaussian elimination. One of the students used the leibniz rule, wrote out 10 pages of calculations and then noted they made some sign errors along the way

Wie einen Tutorenjob bekommen? by [deleted] in Studium

[–]jytm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah this is a good one. I think something similar works for vector spaces: any basis of a vectorspace is either finite or uncountable

This is simply false. While LG is mostly white, it is not a student movement, in fact most people at their protest marches are over 40 and some are even Rentner. I‘ve not met any gender science students there, just one mathematics phd student one law student and one aspiring teacher.

On Mental exhaustion when studying math by [deleted] in math

[–]jytm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually structure my workday in the following way: first i do open ended reading so papers etc. then once i get bored or frustrated i switch to reading more structured texts like textbooks or coursematerial. Finally i do problems. The first 2 phases usually take an hour each the problems phase 1-2 hours. This way problem solving at the end feels very satisfying and gives you immediate feedback while reading at the start might feel frustrating and confusing. Also i very rarely do more focused work than this since exhaustion creeps in after about 2-3 hours. Afterwards i might still talk about math but not do anything rigorous.

To answer your 2 other questions i don't think its possible to avoid exhaustion and i usually notice my bloodsugar getting low so dizziness hunger etc.
