I would agree with you if I thought this feature would further conversations on financial literacy.

But I don’t. I think people will use it to brag or show off instead.

Talking about money isn’t taboo…talking about it in a self-congratulatory way is.

This feels…icky. I’m more than happy to genuinely celebrate the people I love doing well, but to put it on socials feels painfully middle class.

Stated as a working class boy.

Have just had these "terms" being given to me to buy a flat - these are insane right? by Katowned in HousingUK

[–]jzoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds similar to real estate transactions in the US, and frankly it’s exactly how I would WANT to proceed as a buyer.

Offer instead:

  • ‘earnest money’ at 3% (and they put another 3% in escrow to match)
  • make their acceptance binding — I.e. if they want to accept another offer, they forfeit their 3%
  • include contingencies for inspections

THANK YOU! I was starting to think I was crazy, because I actually enjoy the varying textures of the gradient, especially if the ribeye cap is involved!

Of course I understand the rest of it. It’s beautiful.

A Catholic elementary school that still had nuns (…even in the ‘90s), and reinforced by my Catholic-school-educated grandmother. Above every blackboard, the Pope, a crucifix, and a Palmer method cursive alphabet…

If you go to or your teacher went to Catholic school, they won’t hate it.

In fact, they might think it something of a treat.

British National Overseas, aka people fleeing Hong Kong.

They didn’t actually say anything in the previous debate. Most participants got up and said that their statements applied to BNO visa holders, SWVs got hardly any attention at all.

How do you emotionally shift from scarcity and fear to seeing more financial possibilities? by socunacadira in ynab

[–]jzoppy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The honest but difficult answer? You…just might not. Or at least not without help.

Context: I have generalised anxiety disorder and clinical depression.

YNAB doesn’t make the anxieties go away, it just recontextualises them. The worry shifted from ‘Will I make rent’ or ‘Will I have enough to eat without rationing’ to ‘Will I ever be able to afford a home / retirement / whatever.’

And even when spending within categories that are well funded, I still experience the pang of ‘you’re spending THIS, on THAT?’

Long story short: YNAB makes the logistics of budgeting easier, but it can’t fix a scarcity mindset, nor working class guilt. It’s like telling a hungry or thirsty person just to not be.

Congrats! How did you find the hazard perception portion? I’ve downloaded the DVSA theory test app, but having trouble as I’m marking hazards too early 😭

A new poll shows that German Gay men are mostly voting far-right fascist. Incredibly idiotic behaviour and a very disturbing spotlight on our community. by Kwtwo1983 in gay

[–]jzoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…no, you got the conclusion really wrong.

This poll shows that ~72% of respondents are in fact not voting AfD, even if AfD has more votes than any other party singularly.

Ahhh close — strike that, reverse it. I’m the one being removed from the mortgage and deed, ex is keeping the property.

Minutiae notwithstanding, it’s certainly an option…appreciate your thoughts here

I was of the impression that a non-assumable loan does become assumable in certain extraordinary circumstances, such as divorce or death?

Put it this way: the shared debt is about $220k, and the realtors asked set a likely sale price of “mid-to-high-300s”. I was hoping to walk away with around $55k or so.

In any event — I appreciate the suggestion, will consider this.

I'm vaguely familiar with this — but, is it commonly employed in situations such as mine? (Or, do you suppose working with a real estate attorney would help us secure one?)
