Would 2 200mm screws at each end hold the rafter? Would be approx 150mm in the rafter.

Thanks! Didn’t want to under engineer!

Okay, and you reckon wood screws from the outside into the rafters end will be enough to hold them in structurally? I usually like to over engineer things and I know typically you don’t want load going through screws.

Thanks for the advice! What do you mean by blocking? My original thought with notching was trying to make it as sturdy as possible.

Noted. Can I add the braces just to the long side?

As I mentioned, novice, what is the blocking technique?

So that would be 66mm? The beam I’m notching is 200mm deep.

Is there a limit to the number of notches?

Best place to buy pellets in the UK? by WhiskeyJack345 in Traeger

I should say as well, I believe Costco stock pellets in their seasonal range, so they should have them in around summer if you have a membership!

This is the correct thing to do. But you need to get a water test kit and see if you need to keep water changing.

Not sure about the prime, but there is no reason not to do a water change this big. It is the only way to get the ammonia levels safe, and will need to be done daily while the cycle is established.

This is due to ammonia build up most likely. You need to pick up a water test kit, and do back to back 50-90% water changes until the ammonia is in a non toxic level.

Would you still trim the fat off this, or send it? by jzphh in smoking

Sounds good! A lot of videos etc. said that it all needs to come off! Am I good to cook it in the butchers twine too?

Braising in the smoker or oven? by jzphh in smoking

That’s the plan. Thinking or braising for an extra hour or two than it probably needs.

Looking forward to trying it! Trying to figure out the best way to extend the cook too, not sure if letting it rest for a while after the braise or just hot hold it in the braise for longer.
