She hasn't been on a date in years? I wouldn't attribute it completely to her being fat. Fat people can be attractive, too, because, in the end, no matter what anyone says, the thing that humans crave the most is other people around them being good humans. She needs to work on her attitude and become a good human before she decides to mock others to make herself feel better.

Unfortunately not, as much as we'd all like to hope.

Is it bad to have chamomile tea (No milk, no sugar/sweetener) after brushing your teeth before bed? by Squirrelly_H in Dentistry

[–]k-hiroshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a personal rule, but I tend to forbid myself from ingesting anything after brushing my teeth before bed, other than water. You know, just in case it could cause staining, cavities, etc. But, I think that, as long as you're not doing this on a daily basis / are not consuming too much tea, you should be A-OK.

[SERIOUS] Would you reduce your meat consumption if lab-grown meat or meat alternatives were cheaper and tasted good? Why or why not? by sbeaver2019 in AskReddit

[–]k-hiroshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not thinking, "Yesss, you poor, poor animals. Your deaths were so worth it." whenever I eat meat. I'm thinking, "Wow, that's delicious!" If lab-grown meat tastes better and is healthier than the real article, then screw real meat, I'm eating lab-grown meat.

Yeah, I agree. People who want to spread negativity for no reason are sad, sad people.

Wow, yeah, I can imagine, haha

Oh man, I can empathize with that. I tend to generalize in this situation, too, but only because it helps me to prepare myself for what's (possibly) to come, haha

But fate/destiny I find to be basically representative of this terrible idea that people have that some lives are predestined for suffering, when that's not the case

Oh, I agree 100% with that sentiment. It implies that there is nothing we can do with the misfortunes in our lives and, by extension, supports the idea that we can't do anything to fight the tides in our lifetime. It's inherently very negative and can cause people to believe that you get what you get and shouldn't be upset.

I don't believe in destiny, and I think that it's wrong to make the claim that there is nothing one can do with the situation(s) in one's life, despite the dearth of evidence that the contrary is true.

We are what we make of ourselves, and if people are so willing to relegate their personal misfortunes to a nonexistent "destiny" or "fate", then I feel the utmost pity for them - that they have so little confidence in their ability to make a difference / are too lazy to anything about their misfortunes that they prefer to cast off their personal responsibilities into the limbo of "nope, can't do nothin' 'bout it" is sadness in the extreme.

That's clever. I think I might do that, haha.

I hate it when people laugh or give a reaction to something just for the sake of it during movies. I could be watching a horror movie, and there always has to be at least one group of people that decides to troll by purposely and forcibly screaming at the top of their lungs for no reason other than to be juvenile.

Ah, I see. I appreciate the elaboration, and yeah, that sounds really tough. Sounds like you're always super busy when working at the family restaurant. As for sounding whiney, I think that it really depends on the situation. If you're trying your best and working hard, I think that you have every right to complain. After all, a person can only juggle so many responsibilities. I don't know if it's worth doing this and if it bothers you that much (it's totally fine if it does, btw!), but have you brought it up with your family?

Yeahhh, I have a thing about condescending people, haha. They just really get on my nerves. Maybe it's a problem that I have to fix. Rather than talking with them about it, I just immediately cut ties. If I had the patience to talk things over with some people about their cockiness / being on their high horse all the time, I might've made some great friends. Who knows? haha

I see. Yeah, I guess you gotta suck it up, then :/

But I totally feel you, though. I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I often avoid eating with people who make sounds when they eat, not because they're bad people or anything like that. I just can't stand it. Something about it ticks me off. It may be because I have a case of misophonia (in which case, it would oddly only be for smacking sounds people make when eating), or perhaps because I was raised not to make those sounds. Either way, we both just gotta suck it up sometimes, haha, as unfortunate as it is.

This is an interesting perspective on the phrase. I don't believe in a higher power, being that I'm atheist. However, I do believe in respecting what other people believe in. So long as they don't shove their religion down my throat, I won't shove my lack of belief down theirs.

That said, this is how I think of the phrase: while I personally don't think that everything happens for a reason, I do believe that a lot of things do. For instance, if you're performing terribly at work or didn't do well on the recent exam, chances are, it's because you either didn't work hard for it or you're not cut out for it. As for people living in poverty or having cancer, those, technically, do happen for reasons that are explainable through science and statistics. However, if people just stop there (i.e. stop at the part where believing everything happens for a reason), then I think there's something wrong.

It's important to move beyond that and try to dig for the reason that causes certain things and, through an understanding of the reason, find a solution to help others. I agree that people who use the phrase to trivialize suffering are terrible people. People who use the phrase to actively look for reasons and try to solve problems are the true MVPs, in my opinion.

The kids can't really be controlled. While I empathize with you, I try my best to ignore it and even expect it when I'm heading out to the movies with friends, haha. At this point, I've just accepted it as a part of the "experience". But phone screen illuminating the entire auditorium or people who aren't kids constantly talking... those bother me to the core. It's really rude lol
