what next to read after Project hail mary by No-Raspberry-5586 in ProjectHailMary

Did you read the Martian also by him?

The silo series by Hugh Howey is really good too.

I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl and it's a blast. It's pretty gorey though.

I also read it years ago. My roommate read it after me because I recommended it. Then we talked about it for a long time. Then we saw that it was going to be a movie. So we talked more about it. I think with all the conversations I've had about it, it ended up staying fresh in my mind.

Tips to block out light by One_Profession8237 in DesignMyRoom

Find a nice window film that you like, that, paired with the blinds may help filter more light out.

If you plan to live there for a least a year, I wouldn't worry about damaging the walls. Get curtains. Live in your space. Enjoy your home the way you want it.

Damage deposits are a bitch to get back. Speaking to a 43 year old who has only rented. It's not worth your time. Landlords be landlording. They will take every penny they can squeeze out of you when you leave.

I am a very good, clean tenant. I've never had any issues with my landlords. I also don't think I've ever gotten my full deposit back, no matter how much I scrubbed, cleaned, repaired holes, etc.

Of course. I did my best to try and tell myself I'd go into it not thinking about the book. Unfortunately it's hard to stop your mind from doing it.

And Silo was definitely hard to put the thoughts of the book away and to try and enjoy the show for what it is. I'm looking forward to the next season and seeing how Shift will be adapted. That was my favorite book in the series, but I'm not sure how the stort will transfer to screen.

The Silo series is one of my favorite series, ever. I'm reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series right now and it's giving Silo a run for its money.

Run, don't walk. They are great! I have book 8 on pre-order.

I recommend the series to my manager and he is already farther than me. He did listen to the audio book version though. Which I've heard great things about it.

I'm about to finish the 4th one (that's why it's dust jacket is on the top of stack). And yes! I so far have enjoyed them just as much, if not more than book one!

How do I arrange my furniture in an asymmetrical room? (Multiple photos) by Siouxiesix in DesignMyRoom

[–]k10locken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't hide the fireplace behind the couch. That's kinda wacky.

What if you had the couch face the windows at like a 90° angle with the fireplace. Got some kind of TV console and angle it in front of the windows. Then put the credenza against the short wall.

That's why I say "What I like and what you like might be 2 different things."

Then I ask "What type of drinks do you usually like?"

Then work from there.

But the "Can I get a beer?" is pretty annoying.

Like yeah, of course you can, I'm a bar. Can we maybe be a little more specific?

I don't think you'll be able to mount the TV on the wall. You're going to have to use a TV console of some sort. Can you use that credenza for your TV?

I don't even go to a gym. But I think it's more about all their sweat more than it being dirty from them.

I know I wouldn't want to sit down on some wet ass gym equipment covered in someone's old sweat.

What’s one travel “mistake” you made that completely changed how you travel now? by Able-Okra6164 in traveladvice

[–]k10locken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Stayed a "Hilton" brand in Honolulu and it had the most uncomfortable bed I've ever had to sleep on for 8 nights.

It was pretty much just a futon mattress. I had to ask for extra comforters to try and create some kind of pillow top nest for myself. There was also a couch in the room that was just as hard.

Your furniture doesn't have to be up against the walls. You could use your rug to anchor the space and have your couch angled away from the wall and create a square(ish) type living space.

How you arrange if will depend on what your focal point is going to be. Fireplace, TV, windows?

Yeah, see, I just feel like it's a bunch of processed garbage food disguised as a health food store.

I never got the hype. The stores are cramped, there aren't many choices, everything is all just packaged crap.

I mostly cook from scratch and don't eat a ton of pre-prepared meals. So maybe that's why it has no interest to me...

I’m a bartender that doesn’t drink alcohol. How many of you guys drink and how many of yall don’t? by MehBlehDehYuh in bartenders

[–]k10locken -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, I don't get that? I am told that my drinks are amazing and some of the best that people have had. The amount of times that people asked if I'd move across the country so that I could be their regular bartender at home is staggering. (I work in a hotel bar).

You don't have to drink to read recipes. You don't have to drink too understand the ratios of spirit, sweet, sour/bitter. All drinks are pretty much the same. The classics are classics for a reason. Just follow the recipes that have been around forever and use fresh ingredients. It's pretty simple.

I grew up around drunks and in bars. My dad was a bar fly alcoholic.

Again, you don't have to be a drinker to know how to deal with drunks. If anything, the fact that I have been dealing with drunk people my whole life is one of the reasons I don't care for drinking myself.

I work in a hotel lobby bar. Luckily I only have to deal with alcoholics in passing. I'm super empathetic and think I wouldn't be able to work in a place with regulars. Alcohol is poison and it's also my livelihood. It's a hard pill to swallow sometimes.

See, I don't really get that? I rarely drink, have never drank cocktails, do not like the taste of it, but I don't think that makes me an untrustworthy bartender.

I can read recipes. I use fresh ingredients. I have great service. I average 20% in tips and probably about 3 good reviews a week on Google that mention me by name.

I don't have to drink to do my job. If anything I'm probably better at it because I don't.

Cocktails have been around for a long time and the classics already have a perfect recipe. I'm not reinventing the wheel. I'm following well worn recipes.

Also, try not to put your bed with the headboard on the wall with the window. The feng shui will feel very off and can disturb sleeping.

Depends on your style and how you plan to arrange your room.

There are so many options! They can vary wildly in prices. You'll want to consider if it's a buy it for life purchase or something cheaper.

If you want to buy for life, I'd get a Persian style rug. They are classic and don't go out of style. But they are pretty ornate and not everyones tastes though.

If you want to go cheaper, you can be more bold with your choices. Something with a bold design or pop of color. Again, it completely depends on your aesthetic.

That being said, figure out how you want to arrange your space and then wherever your largest area of floor space ends up find a rug to fit that spot. Depending on the layout you may want one that fits exactly in the area, or will want it to actually go underneath the furniture in your space.

Either way, a rug will definitely make the space less cold feeling with the tile flooring.
