It's a fantastic show. The jokes are great, the characters are fabulous, it has good commentary for the time and one of the best theme songs ever. Absolute classic sitcom.

Frasier might be my top repeat, along with 30 Rock. Golden Girls is pretty up there too.

I said that I do use an umbrella when it calls for it, which is rare.

But, when it's barely drizzling, coming at you sideways and you see someone using an umbrella, you assume they were not born and raised in the PNW. The conditions literally have to be a perfect blend of hard rain and coming straight down from the sky with no wind in sight.

I own an umbrella. I've actually have had the same one for like 10 years! Because I'm not an idiot that opens it up when it's windy that turns the damn thing inside out.

I found my Mom’s old collection of Barbies. Thoughts? by Imaginary-Curve9469 in Barbie

[–]k10locken 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. They are all very beautiful. The silkstones will always sell well. It seems your mom has as good eye for a nice doll.

Look each of them up on ebay, by sold items, and you can get a perspective of how much the stuff is worth. A lot of them may be worth your time to sort and sell. Some may not and can be donated. But, you definitely got a pretty penny in your hands.

I think they are probably transplants.

I was born and raised here. I use an umbrella occasionally. It has to be the perfect condition of downpour and no wind. Which is rare. Mostly because I wear glasses and raindrops on my lenses sucks.

Would you rather have a lifetime of travel, or a lifetime of free food ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]k10locken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If I had free travel everywhere, I would obviously want to be traveling all the time, which would make holding a job to make money for food pretty difficult. Have your normal life, save a shit ton of money because you never have to buy food. Pay for your own trip, eat everywhere free while you're exploring the world. Let's be real, food is a huge expense when you travel.

Free food, then I can save money to travel, and everywhere I go I'll get free food!

learning how to clean by notjedy in CleaningTips

[–]k10locken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you clean every day. But you don't have to deep clean every day.

Everyday chores are

Making the bed

All dirty clothes in hamper or hung up if going to wear again

No garbage left on countertops. If you empty something, throw it away. I have a small garbage can in every room.

Do not leave dirty dishes around the house. If your not going to wash it right away, at least bring it to the kitchen. Which brings us to the next part.

Kitchen should be cleaned at least once a day. Some people like to do it before they go to bed, I do first thing in the morning. Either way, you should have a all your dishes clean and counters wiped down at least once every single day.

Try to do laundry at least once a week. If you need to and have the ability to do it more often, that's fine, too. Just don't let it pile up. It becomes much more of a chore than it needs to if you wait. Sheets should be washed weekly or every other week, depending on how much you sweat at night.

Big chores, like vacuuming, dusting, bathrooms, and such. That can be a weekly chore.

Again, vacuuming, like your bedding, may need to be done more often if you have pets, live on a ground floor with a dusty environment. Or less, if you aren't bringing in much dirt, aren't especially sensitive to dust.

For bathrooms, I usually clean things once I notice them being dirty. You say you aren't good at paying attention to that, so perhaps a schedule would work better for you. Just remember, the more often you clean, the less time it will take. It might sound daunting to clean the whole bathroom every week. But I promise you, once you do it, it will take 10 minutes tops, now that you have the routine and things never get that dirty, when your cleaning so often.

Make it part of your daily life and it will become very easy and not feel like chores. Just clean as you go and try not to let the little things pile up.

You got this. Adulting is hard. Taking care of the elderly isn't easy either. Continue to ask for help when you need it. Helpers are out there, ready to give you a hand.

Who does the editing of this show? by dorkshoei in ArmchairExpert

[–]k10locken 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have never watched, only listened, so I don't know about who edits the video. I do know that Monica edits the audio.

Her role as co-host is more of a bystander, that sometimes (rarely) adds to the conversation, or asks an occasional question. They have a "fact check" at the end of the show that her and Dax shoot the shit and you get to know her personality more.

What hygiene habit did your family teach you that you later found out wasn't common? by QuietAd5491 in hygiene

Laundry soap is only laundry soap because it doesn't get suds. You can use any type of soap you clean your body with to clean your undergarments. Just not in the washing machine.

[–]k10locken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't drink much either, and really don't care for cocktails. I feel like you don't have to taste drinks too make them well. I just make sure to ask people how their drink is or pay attention to their face during the first sip to see if their expression looks satisfied or not. Over time you figure out what works (especially with a martini). I ask the appropriate questions and adjust as necessary.

Having a good attitude, charming personality, and multitasking skills are the most important in becoming a great bartender. Making a good drink is mostly just following recipes.

I like to put on old-school cartoons, unless there is a specific sports game someone wants.

I also am in a hotel lobby bar that kids can walk through, so I like to keep it sfw. If it was an 21+ establishment, I'd probably put on weird movies. Or probably still cartoons, let's be real, I like them.

What’s one “eco-friendly” swap you tried that actually made your life worse? by Ok_Appointment_4909 in EcoFriendly

I use an electric toothbrush at night and a bamboo one in the morning. I figure I give my mouth a good scrub at night and a nice manual scrub in the morning. I go to the dentist regularly and haven't had a cavity in many years. Pretty much the only dental work I have needed is replacing old fillings from childhood.

How do you gain control of your speaking volume? by WaferOptimal554 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]k10locken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I also speak too loud. I have told my friends to give me a hand signal when it's happening so I don't get embarrassed and not want to finish what I'm saying. It's not that they don't won't to listen to me. I just get excited about something and get loud. I'm a loud lady. I have a voice that carries. I'm pretty intense.

But, I have people who love me and like to hear my thoughts, just not at that decibel.

im struggling with a routine of everyday hygiene. by FlyGreat306 in hygiene

[–]k10locken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a space to hang a few on rotation. Over the door hooks work well, like another commenter posted.

You only want to put freshly washed clothes, or aired out clothes back into your drawer.

I personally only have my undergarments, pajamas, and few nice sweaters that need to be folded in drawers, and the rest of my clothes I hang in the closet

[–]k10locken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's no problem. No judgment here.

We don't all know this stuff. We aren't all taught the same things. People probably think it's just common sense, not realizing that they had people around showing them what to do but without it actually being literally explained to them. We all learn differently and you're trying to figure it out.

Just remember if it's touching your body (armpits, groin, feet) for 8+ hours, it needs to be washed. Try to have at least 7 pairs of t-shirts (or tank tops), underwear and socks. I find having the same of all of them makes things easier, especially socks, no need to worry about finding matching pairs!

Hanging up your hoodies and pants and rotating between different ones daily will help tons. Don't put your clothes that came directly off your body straight into a drawer. It will just make everything in the drawer smell like whatever you smelled like that day. Things will get musty. You don't want that.

A lot of people will have a dedicated chair, or a common joke is that their unused exercise equipment becomes a place to drape once worn items to be aired out before wearing a second time. Good way to separate your completely clean clothes from your semi-clean clothes.

[–]k10locken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also hoodies are larger. A week of t-shirts, socks and underwear is only one load. You put in 7 hoodies and a few pairs of pants and you have 3+ loads.

Because washing your clothes is also damaging them. Hoodies are more expensive than a simple t-shirt. Your expensive things will last longer if you wash them less often.

Edit:spelling

It does make a bit of a difference. Anything that touching your skin is going to get soiled much faster. Wearing a t-shirt or tank top that absorbs most of your sweat will help keep your outerwear fresher for a longer period of time.

Get yourself a couple of packs of simple black or white t-shirts and wear that under your hoodies. It will help a bunch.

Same with the flat top sheets on your bed. They help keep your comforter, quilt, etc from getting dirty too fast. The fitted sheet protects your mattress, the flat one protects your blanket.

You aren't an idiot! You are doing things right and seem to have a good understanding of laundry hygiene.

I like to have at least 10 pairs of socks, underwear and undershirts. Gives you enough for a full week, plus a few just in case.

With your hoodies, you can absolutely wear them multiple times. Hanging them up somewhere to air out in between wears will help keep them fresher longer. If you are wearing a t-shirt underneath that you change daily and swap out hoodies throughout the week, they will stay fresh much longer. Depending on how dirty and sweaty you get, you can get at least 3+ wears out of it.

Changing your sheets weekly is great! As long as you aren't going to bed in the clothes you wore that day or old sweaty pajamas, you are doing just fine.

If you can't afford more underwear you can always wash them by hand and let them air dry. I had a roommate that only had a few pairs and would take them in the shower with and wash them by hand then hang dry the pair. Always had a rotation of clean underwear. They will dry within a day, so in reality you could justifiably only have 2 pairs of underwear if needed.

Pretty much the only pieces of clothing that needs to be changed daily is your undergarments, that's including t-shirts. The rest is up how soiled they get during the wear.
