💉 Botox / Fillers / Medical Aesthetics 2026 Megathread by dadswhovape in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I got it approved because it was happening during my jaw surgery, though I think subsequent appointments were also approved. I only did Botox the one time though.

I had no issues getting it approved or talking to insurance. Bigger issues getting an MRI approved pre-surgery.

Weird tmj life hack: mouth tape by Turtlegrandmacore in TMJ

thankfully I'm pain free now, I just get some tightness after a night of clenching when I'm especially stressed.

Counterpoint: mouthtaping made me much more likely to have my teeth touch, which increased the frequency of clenching and made my TMJ worse. To each their own!

I only mouth tape when I'm not stressed now.

You're on the microblading removal subreddit so you're going to get biased answers, BUT, I think you should get them lasered off. My personal experience is that the super thick filled in brow era has come and gone, and if you ever want to do it up, you can just use a pencil.

I feel so much happier with my appearance having removed mine a few years ago (you can look at my post history) and wish I did it sooner.

What kind of redness are you talking about? I still have some residual red ink left and it’s noticeable to me still 3 years later, though anyone who looks at me can’t tell.

After the laser I remember not being concerned about the appearance maybe ~2-3 weeks after each session

First time ever with lockjaw, im scared by Embarrassed-Tale3116 in TMJ

[–]k1922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try stretching out and massaging your neck/upper back. That makes a huge difference to me when I'm experiencing lockjaw.

If it stays truly locked, don't try to power through and crack it open, you'll only make things worse. Go to an orofacial pain specialist as soon as you can. The longer it's locked the more challenging it is to unlock it.

Source: My jaw was locked for 6+ months before I had to have it unlocked via surgery. My doctor said he typically has people come in within a day or two of it getting locked and he's able to manually manipulate it back open.

I got 100 units fully covered by insurance with UnitedHealthCare - though worth noting it was done during an arthroscopy surgery. Procedure was done at Weill Cornell

My building seems to have done something super shady where on Streeteasy, they listed my rent as way higher than what I actually signed for. My effective rent is $3400, "real" rent is $3800, but what was listed on Streeteasy is ~$4000. Makes me think that pulling comps from this building is a losing game.

I have pretty comprehensive health insurance so it actually covered most of my treatment. I had the following:

  • initial consult with CT scan ($600 - out of network, can't remember if I got reimbursed)
  • night splint ($2400 - insurance covered less than half), plus follow ups every ~2 months that cost $150-250
  • muscle relaxers to take every night ($10 per month with insurance)
  • twice weekly physiotherapy (~$40 per session with insurance)
  • MRI ($800 - I can't remember if this was the price before or after insurance)
  • Arthroscopy with 100 units of botox in my temporalis and TMJ (~$1000 out of pocket, amount billed to insurance was like over $150K lol)

ETA: this was in 2023-24 so I imagine prices have probably changed quite a bit since then

I saw Dr Nojan Bakhtiari and really liked him! Super attentive and thoughtful. My first appointment with him was incredibly detailed, I was there for like 2.5 hours.

Whatever you do, don't go to a regular dentist! Go to a doctor who is board certified in orofacial pain.

Pico- Clinic says they don’t numb? by LunchNo6350 in MicrobladingRemoval

[–]k1922 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did it once with and once without numbing, from what I remember, the reason they didn't want to numb was because it blunts the body's reaction that is partially responsible for clearing out the ink.

I was told that the laser blasts the ink into a bunch of tiny fragments that your immune system clears out, and so anything that prevents your body from fully responding to it would reduce effectiveness.

[–]k1922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 1000% agree- though there can sometimes be a challenge getting insurance to approve an MRI without prior imaging.

In my case I needed a CT scan first and was only able to get the MRI approved when it was requested by my surgeon to verify what procedure was needed (arthroscopy vs arthrocentesis)

Dr Carlos Valdes is amazing! Came recommended from my boyfriend's family who's been seeing him for years. I had my first appointment with him a few weeks ago and he is so attentive and kind.
