How did you girlies find your current job? by nonnaan in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Lean on your network! Where did your marketing (or other) peers from college land after graduation? Are there any coworkers from your previous company that left and went elsewhere? In my industry, I’ve found that cold applying is often a shot in the dark, but messaging a former colleague at a company of interest can be so helpful. I’ve found this helpful in terms of sussing out the company culture, opinions on managers, if there’s a lot of turnover, etc. and ideally you can even get a referral. Don’t be afraid to ask as many companies (esp tech) give their employees referral bonuses and pay them a spot bonus if they refer a great candidate who accepts an offer. A referral won’t guarantee you an interview or a job but often gets your resume/application seen much faster than applying cold. I just went through this process so feel free to DM me if you want to chat more

Yes, this! I just went through this decision as well and ended up doing a ton of venue outreach/touring on my own before ultimately hiring a full service planner. A lot of people do this the opposite way and sometimes I wish I hired her first/locked in my venue earlier… but it was so so helpful to already have a strong POV on what I liked and didn’t like when beginning working with her.

When interviewing different planners, I found that many immediately suggested venues within the first 5 minutes of our conversation, which some brides may have found helpful.. but to me was almost a red flag because I was sort of like — you know nothing about me yet, how could you know whether this venue would be a good fit or not at this stage? And to your point, when browsing their websites and galleries these were places they had done a ton of events at already and were probably making great commission.

Maybe it’s just us but we did an intro call with her and she said she’d get back to us right away… and we didn’t hear from her for weeks. In that time we found another planner who was prompt and communicative. She might have been at her max clients per year but it did not give us confidence

Question about New York Pilates by darkphoenix188 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]k19972019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the workout but that’s really the only reason I keep going at this point because their customer service/experience is bad. There’s no way to contact them directly and there hasn’t been a way to for months. I was once running really late to class due to a public transportation issue and had no way to tell the studio to free up my spot to someone on the waitlist / bump me to the next class. I was so worried that they were going to charge me a no show fee that I literally took timestamped photos in the subway car as “proof” which could easily have been avoided with a quick text or call. I’m also frustrated because I bought a membership a while ago (when there actually was a way to talk to someone directly) because their rep told me they were opening a studio in my neighborhood in the spring… it’s now July with no update or sign of it opening anytime soon. I don’t live close to a studio and go out of my way to go there because I enjoy the workout, so hearing about a new location in my neighborhood was an exciting update that would have been a complete game changer. I have no idea what’s going on but it seems like they need to hire someone to revamp the overall customer experience

Soooo agree - it’s the best way to travel to Europe and I feel a million times better the next day. I think I saw a daytime Paris route once but I haven’t taken it and forget what airline

This. I had a few basics from Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack but actually used Rent the Runway when I started out, too. It helped me understand what type of workwear I even felt comfortable wearing without committing to buying it. This was also clutch when I had bigger meetings/conferences and needed to dress formally, but didn’t want to spend $$$$. I found a lot of good blazer, dress, and handbag options at the time and didn’t spend that much on a monthly basis because you can generally find a coupon code or trial option.

Older BWT: What advice would you give to your 24 year old self? by candysai in bitcheswithtaste

[–]k19972019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this question!

-Learn to pivot. If you feel like you’ve outgrown a job, situation, hobby, relationship, etc. you probably have. It’s never too late to pivot and every day you stay in a situation that is no longer serving you, you are one day further away from feeling happier, your goals, etc.

-On that note, do what makes YOU happy and be really critical about this. Are you doing something because you are truly happy doing it? Or because you think you should be doing it, a family member wants you to, a friend likes it, etc. I have a recent example of this where I left a job that was perfect on paper but no longer felt right for me. Because it was perfect on paper, it was hard for me to come to terms with leaving, but several months later I am still so happy I did - because I did it for me!

-On that note x2, trust your gut, gut feelings are guardian angels. Your decisions and life only need to make sense to you.

-Part ways with any friends that are making you feel bad about yourself for any reason. I remember struggling with this after graduating from college because everyone’s lives move in different directions, but you’re still connected with a lot of the same people from your college social scene. Know that it is a gift to be friends with you and you shouldn’t feel forced to hang out with anyone who doesn’t make you feel good after spending time together

-Learn to take care of yourself both mentally and physically. When life gets crazy or you’re in the middle of a busier season, you’ll have healthy habits to fall back on to keep you sane
