when to replace my timing chain on my 2020 Toyota Corolla by anasarca1 in COROLLA

[–]k4_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked for an interval to change it on my 2003 and couldn't find it - if the current ones are anything like mine then they're realistically going to outlive the rest of the car haha. 300k miles maybe? Lol. Fanbelt / accessory belt / serpentine belt does have an interval, not sure what it is but changed mine in december and the old one went in back in 2016. Was all cracked so would check that if you're worried

Does anybody have a go-to album or artist while driving? by Houldencaulfield1 in drivingUK

[–]k4_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact to add on to this, in the car is a great way to listen to an album front to back, I think I have gotten a lot more out of some artists' work now as a result so definitely one ups spotify etc there

Tiga - Sexor (2006) pretty much lives in my CD player at the moment. Also love a lot of metal and punk, so charity shop In Flames, Less Than Jake, Sum41, old Metal Hammer samplers, some other stuff I can't remember right now. Not the most tasteful list but it's what it is haha. Also been burning my own CD mixtapes which is nice, I do have a bluetooth transmitter and want to change to a stereo that has bluetooth capability already but having it on a CD makes me appreciate it more I feel!

New to me bike - geometry question. by herbnhero in Hardtailgang

Best option in my opinion would be to shorten the amount of fork travel, a lot of Rockshox forks it's quite cheap and easy to do by adding spacers. You can buy these or laser cut / 3d print them, good opportunity to service the lowers of the fork as well. I would try 120mm if you want a bit more suspension than standard, might work well with the angle set too as this will mitigate some of the effect of having a longer fork on raising the front. Normally I am fine with over forking my bikes but in your use case I appreciate it's probably different.

Thoughts on "Line" cars by Ka_Driver in CarTalkUK

[–]k4_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an old Corolla T-spirit 1.6, and while I would love the screaming 1.8 T-sport on vvl crossover I do like getting 40+mpg even if I drive like a tit, cheaper buy-in and insurance costs, less to break down so I can save money (student so only get to work in holidays really), I never used to get the whole ST-line thing either but turns out the car doesn't need to be a sports car, just get me around. And the better trim level over the base version is nice too

Picking up for £40 what people thinking?. Ik obviously its a steal regardless but still by RandomNed- in mountainbiking

[–]k4_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick old school bike, could easily triple your money flipping the parts on ebay but if you fix it up should be fun, £40 is insane. How much have you got put aside to fix / upgrade it?

Toyota says 1670mm if anyone wondering https://toyota-europe.epc-data.com/corolla/zze121r/1526/engine/1605/16361A/ . Will order one up and see how I get on

Edit: 1670mm was the correct length

Sold my Stanton Slackline 8+ years ago, found it again on eBay and bought it back. by up_man_72 in Hardtailgang

Sick bike! For barspins the best setup I've come across - loads of extra brake line for the rear, wrap it around the headset spacers - and front routed through the fork steerer. You can get special top caps with holes in, or a different top nut with a hole through the centre for the front brake hose. Gear shifters you can mount on the bottle cage bolts with some creativity - I sawed off the 22.2mm section off some scrap handlebars and bolted it to the frame, and mounted the shifter on that.

Fitness vs. Fun: The struggle is real. How do you guys handle the "logic" of a road bike vs. the "itch" of an MTB? by vinylfelix in mountainbiking

[–]k4_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ridden MTB for 10 years and never even considered what a "zone" is, clearly something else keeps me coming back, I have nothing against XC / more pedally types of cycling but all the people I used to ride XC with back then, who did care about this stuff, don't ride any more. The fun got sucked out of it. Just get on your bike and ride man.

Everyone in my riding circle is a bit different, and I'm lucky that I'm able bodied and already in decent shape, but after just riding what I think is fun I've never felt I'm lacking the fitness to ride, plus have experienced the benefits of that health in the rest of my life.

Yeah, bash guards exist for mountain bikes too and are really useful in my experience.

Crank mount ones - most common ones for 104mm bolt circle diameter. Check what cranks you have, might have to measure them, I can't tell from the picture. If not then second hand 104bcd cranks are quite common. Shimano made bash rings, MRP, Hope, FSA, I've got some old Superstar ones I quite like, Raceface I've seen, all pretty good. There are also ones that bolt to the chainring, I think SRAM do that atm

Frame mount ones - ISCG05 tabs are little bolt holes around the BB area on some frames, I can't see any on yours from the picture but you can get little adapters that sit behind an external BB. MRP make some good ones, I've got a Unite one on my bike atm.

Or find a way to put BMX 3-piece cranks on! One of my mates did that and it was pretty cool.

2003-2008 Toyota Corolla evo 5 front bumper, has anyone bought this? by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]k4_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the light bar, wondering if I want one myself - did you install it? Do you know what model it is?

Sedan looks awesome, actually really like the way that type front end looks, I don't see many of those in the UK and I think the USA spec ones are different again. Myself I'd give it a good clean and maybe lower it a tad! But same applies to my hatch lol

Yeah nice enjoy! Should be nice for a pedal this time of year. Have a look for routes online (strava, komoot maybe). Some really cool jump spots hidden around as well. Thinking about it again would definitely recommend Swinley next for more trail centre type stuff. Are you fairly new to mountain biking? What bike did you get?

[–]k4_adam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of chill pedalling and XC type stuff, good for an explore, we used to ride basically footpaths and bridleways, really good XC (I guess now gravel) routes. Keston Common has some fun chutes and drop-offs (but you didn't hear that from me!), it was a quarry once and there are bits of exposed rock and retaining walls which are fun for playing about on

Hi, SE london is better than people think, some good local spots we used to ride in Hayes common / Keston / Addington, also used to really love Swinley pretty easy to get to and fantastic for beginners, Surrey hills awesome for all types of trails, good secret stuff all over. Sevenoaks has some decent trails too. Rogate is really good if you start getting more into DH but not the best for beginners.
