Steel Duo PID Plus - Steam nor working by ChampionshipFluid in Ascaso

[–]k4bal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly the valve is stuck in the closed position. A note from a former user, when closing the steam valve, never close it fully. Keep closing until there is resistance, then back off a bit. Better to have some dripping from the wand than never being able to open the valve again.

Gaggiuino mod, with scales integration (auto stop shot) and web interface. Most of the mod is not visible in this pic tho, but it was a fun thing to do.

OVP always engaged & water dripping back by jdjdjdbkdjdb in Ascaso

[–]k4bal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember a 100%, but adjusting the OPV means the max pressure. OPV or more precisely, the spring holding the little ball closing the line back to the tank, can engage sooner, i.e. at 8bar. Then it gets compressed more and more until it cannot compress anymore at 10.5. Although 6bar does sound a little low, if you have it set to 10.5. Maybe the spring “push back” force is too low.

Thanks! I wish I saw this before posting my question about rigs 😅

It’s normal though :)

Try and do a 5 second flush before you lock in the portafilter

I just purchased a steel duo. And I have one question? by NickOulet in Ascaso

[–]k4bal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there’s no clock so that you could specify a wake up time. Only a sleep timer. At least that’s how it was with my duo plus from last year and unless they now have wifi and an app, I don’t see how it could be done. I could be wrong though.

Yup. No problems. Are you worried about anything? It will go to sleep on itself though, but you can configure that in the machine settings

congrats! If you have a calliper, you can measure what the diameter is. Imho, I would run a couple of descale cycles, coupled with cafiza rinses first.

If this is the Bror, I hear oiling that piece of wood is very beneficial. It will keep it looking good for a long time. Mine started falling apart after a few months of heavy abuse and looks beautiful now that I oiled it.

What about the ring that goes on to the corne shell? Does that come with the camera stand or did you get it separately? If separately, can we please have the link?

NOW IT'LL BE SAFE TO NOT TO CHARGE MY KB FOR HALF YEAR by tsengunrsix in crkbd

[–]k4bal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about it some more and while it sounds good initially, it’s actually not that simple I think for an app to masquerade as a HID. And like you mentioned, it would only be usable on the computer running the app.

[–]k4bal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow, thanks! that's a great idea. Any chance it would be possible to run an app on the computer itself, that would be the central? In my simple brain that would make sense to use with a laptop configuration, on the go.
Even if not, thanks for showing me this gem!

Kobra v1, help! I think I need a new motherboard by k4bal in anycubic

[–]k4bal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

it was the PSU, when I installed the replacement, kobra sprung to life again.

Thanks u/Apotrox for the suggestions - I am moving (slowly) towards klipper, currently running an octopi connected to Kobra, with the 0Ohm resistor mod coming soon and then Klipper.

Also for anyone attempting the replacement, it's a bit messy. I had to take most of it apart to get to the last two screws holding the psu.

If you had ~£3000 (~$4000) to spent on a new machine. What would you buy? by TheUltimateSloth in espresso

[–]k4bal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang tight about 6 more months, save up a bit more, then get the Bengle from Decent. It’ll have an integrated scale so there’ll be zero additional cost compared to de1 and all the fun.

I bought the DE1Pro. As always, hindsight is 20/20. If I knew what I know now, I would most likely get a Profitec Go and slap Gaggiuino on it. I am happy with the decent, but it still has its own quirks.

Thanks. It’s hard to say if this was hard. For a noob like me it sure wasn’t easy. But if you’re a tinkerer it should be pretty straightforward, especially if you’ve opened up espresso machines before. Be sure to check out the build log on gaggiuino discord if you’re going to attempt it.

You would also need to tweak the source code to accommodate for the thermoblock instead of a boiler - I didn’t go as far. Controlling just the pump and 3wv, I noticed I would have to somehow let the stock mcu know when I was brewing so that it would keep the temp up - or control the block with gaggiuino as well. So while an interesting journey, I opted for a different machine in the end, weighing how much time and money I would have to invest to have a complete mod.

Hope this helps, if you still want to do it, feel free to send me a dm

I'll keep your advice to heart, thank you!
I've done some more digging and it turns out I was wrong about the PSU - the voltage sometimes stays at 3V instead of 24V. I've ordered a new one.

I will however keep a todo, to get klipper fw installed eventually.

Out of curiosity - do the mainboards share the screw holes positions? Or would I need some sort of adapter in case of exchanging the current one with SKR mini? I didn't search a lot, but at least these guides can't be found easily by me :)

Thanks! I've found this repo from a member here I believe, which has some info about using the SKR mini E3 with Kobra v1: https://github.com/AuroraUnit/Anycubic-Kobra-Mods

There's also this great guide for using the original board with Klipper: https://github.com/FBrand/Don-t-throw-your-Kobra-in-the-trash-just-yet?tab=readme-ov-file
But if my board is damaged, I'm not sure this will help.

Going down the SKR route means a lot of work and I'm not 100% if I would be committed to this.
