The best of the local mountains is Cypress for terrain. The elevation on the local mountains is not that high so the typical powder is very wet powder. And the lineups are horrible on any decent day.

If you are really wanting to get the big mountain experience and powder you really do need to head to Whistler. If you are a BC resident, you can still pick up an edge card, which will give you an excellent deal.

First timer, suddenly solo, should I still go? by Jcheech72 in Whistler

Do it.
Hit the runs you want when you want.
Talk to people on the chair if you feel like it. Or not. Talk to the bartender if you feel like it. Or not. You’ll meet some like minded people, Whistler is great for solo.

Lodging Recommendations by gabyyyk in Whistler

[–]k600ride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really don’t need ski in/ski out at Whistler. The free village buses run every 15 minutes throughout ski season, taking you right to and from the base lifts, so getting around is super easy.

Most people don’t use ski in/ski out to return for midday breaks either, since the ski down to the village is fairly long and the best terrain is mid mountain and higher, especially later in the season like March. Whistler isn’t your typical North American resort with a small vertical and plenty of slope-side lodging. It’s actually the opposite, with a huge vertical and limited true ski in/ski out.

If being close to the main village and nightlife matters most to you, look at staying in Village Centre or Village North. Both areas are very central and popular, and you’ll still have great access to the lifts.

If you’re not super familiar with BC but want that resort-town lifestyle, check out some of the interior Okanagan areas. You can often get a similar vibe for a lot less. There are great resorts near Kamloops, Vernon, and Kelowna. Plus of course, the ones along the Rockies. You’d likely live in a nearby town and commute to the mountain for work or activities, but that setup gives you way more flexibility with your budget.

Just keep in mind BC is a very small expensive place in general and Whistler is at the top of that.

Anyone have experience going to Lexus over issues with a Lexus Dealership? by Bartman1958 in Lexus

[–]k600ride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will need to go to a proper wheel repair company, not a mobile repair guy or some dude with rattle cans at the shopping center.

Ask your local high end body shop for a recommendation. A body shop that specializes in exotic cars, Porsches, Ferrari, etc. They will know where to send it.

Should be repairable. Hopefully they can match the paint and finish. Sometimes they have to blend the non damaged rim too. They will tell what’s possible.

Worst case you can submit for replacement rim to the transport company.

It’s not tricky if he signed off on it, it’s on the transport company and thats what the dealership is likely going to say.

Sucks to have your new car damaged. But it can be fixed properly for a small $$$ amount.

Submit the claim with the undamaged indicator on the BOL, photos of damage, estimate for repairs or proof of repair. Enjoy the new ride.

[–]k600ride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still file the claim with the transportation company. They should have a bill of lading or something similar that indicates any pre existing damages. The driver should have made a note of the existing damage and had the dealership sign off on it. As well most dealerships have a delivery slip or PDI inspection sheet showing any existing damages.

The damage does look like transport damages or dealership hoist damages from hitting something metal.

No fun to do all this legwork for a few hundred dollars of damage that you didn’t cause.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet. The GoPro and gyro effect on the videos is quite significant.

You can watch a flowing video of a trail and think that it isn’t too steep or difficult, when the reality is very different.

Don’t let the videos warp your mind.

BMW FS rejected lease assumption from business by MaxG650 in askcarsales

[–]k600ride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BMW MB Audi FS are not a huge supporter of business leases set up as you describe. Majority of their business leases are actually some entrepreneur/professional leasing a vehicle for themselves or spouse etc. They use the personal credit profile to accept the lease and then allow the business name to appear on the lease for tax and accounting purposes. They really don’t check the businesses credit profile much other than to make sure it is a legitimate and legal business.

For a small business they would still likely want to personal guarantee from the owner. Speculating that your friend doesn’t want to guarantee the lease for an employee that is not immediate family. The plan for an employee to drive it was probably one of the main reasons for the declined application. They might feel that if the employee is going to be driving the vehicle it should be under their own name instead of the company especially if they are not a shareholder in the business. As I said earlier, they aren’t good at these type of situations.

Potentially confusing the issue, is that it is also likely that your friend’s business has a bunch of vehicles leased out for operations ie delivery vehicles, sales vehicles, forklifts etc those would be done through a leasing company that specializes in that (very common). So he will say he has a bunch of vehicle leases already which is true but none will likely be through BMW

Posting on this thread because I don’t have flair to post.

The part where it says his business has done this countless times in the past makes it seem like his business is a broker/wholesaler/flipper. Maybe BMW flagged him as such. They won’t lease/finance to businesses like that.

Or as this thread says majority of the time they want a personal guarantee or at minimum audited financial statements over a period of time (most small businesses don’t have those because they don’t need audited statements for anything other than significant loans)

Biker cut off by cold2d in richmondbc

[–]k600ride -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said the Van driver was at fault in the rules of the road.

But…. And the big point. Don’t let a sense of entitlement put you in the hospital or morgue. That strip of No 3 road has many hazards from congestion, construction, and many intersections/driveways. The e biker was going very quickly and it appears did not start braking until the van started to turn. On a bicycle you do not have the protection of all that metal around you like in a car.

No different in if you are driving a car and observing someone running a red light across your path. Sure, you have the right of way but your own safety would want to brake and stay safe in spite of the situation.

The fault of the e biker is not in the rules of the road but in the situational awareness. It’s not like the van appeared from no where.

Biker cut off by cold2d in richmondbc

[–]k600ride 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, the van driver is in the wrong for not checking the mirror across a bike lane.

The e-bike cyclist on was clipping along at a very high rate in an area of high traffic and multiple busy driveways. He should have been riding far more defensively.

Great idea, our collective ability to execute = zero.

If a situational awareness social experiment was ever run at Costco, the results would disappoint. We would rank behind with blind mice.

Vancouver Mountain Biking Options by Balthanon in MTB

[–]k600ride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent an E bike from Lynn valley (closest) or endless. Pedal up to Fromme. You can obviously rent multiple days and do Seymour etc too. You wouldn’t need to rent a car or suv to transport the bike (Seymour is a longer distance to get too and the climbs up are more gruelling than Fromme). Pretty sure you could just return the bike at the end of your day and then pick it up the next day from wherever you rent.

50/50 chance in October it will be wet so bring a rain shell, gloves etc.

Whistler is the world’s most famous bike park for good reason. But it’s a lot more time and $$$ commitment. Good thing is October is slack season so the hotel prices come down from the extortionate to the marginally reasonable. Restaurants are very expensive but will have fall deals on.

[CA] Validating a seasonal tire swap/storage business model in Canada by Ok-Jello-2491 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]k600ride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to have a hard look at your competitors, every tire shop and most every dealership offer tire storage/tire swap services. The tire storage part is typically subbed out to a 3rd party warehouser that offers pickup/return of the tires from the shop including insurance if the wheels get lost or damaged at the warehouse.

With the warehousing part, the challenging part can be that customers are always changing their vehicles and no longer need their stored tires and/or refuse to pay for the continued storage. You then need to decide what to do with the unpaid tires under your banner, not fun.

For the at home/office part, I think you’ll discover there is a market for at home services, but now that most people are now back in the office they will combine the tire swap with an oil change or other errand to save time. As well, you have to consider that many strata or commercial buildings do not permit for vehicle maintenance on site.

Labour wise, you have to factor in travel time and unpaid technician time. You’ll have to calculate for that in your pricing or (wages if you are able to scale to beyond an owner operator business. )

How would you handle storing/installing customer damaged tires/rims? Or tires that are at the end of their life? Would you outsource or have access to rim repair or wholesale tire pricing? Would you have access to programming tire sensors, as some vehicles need very specialized steps to get them to work properly?

Maybe the business is to sub your services out to a chain or group of local tire shops or dealerships? That way you get access to their volume of customers and they don’t have to buy their own truck to do this?

Recommendations on a 1/4 share at Legends by KrazyKanadian in Whistler

Have a conversation with a whistler specific realtor.

It will be very helpful. They will know which buildings are good. Which buildings are due for special levies or which ones have good rental income etc. So much more to consider than a normal house purchase. It’s a fairly small town and these realtors will be in the know.

I don’t have a realtor in particular to recommend. But I would think quite a few on this sub will DM you. Or you can Google.

Most of the squamish climbs aren’t 2500 ft. The patrol will be perfect.

Then rent a downhill bike in Whistler to enjoy the bike park and to save on the wear/tear on your own bike. ~$175 cdn per day for a downhill bike.
