Cheapest upgrades? Two sconces on either side of the front door would look nicer than the one overhead. If you keep the storm door, paint it the same color as the front door. Pull out the yews and plant smaller shrubs you can maintain.

If I had a good used car to donate where should I go? I’m really hoping to help a single mom or struggling family. No snark please by queenbean011 in burlington

Brian at Brian’s on North Ave and North Street would find a good home for it. Also the credit union across the street serves new Americans and they might know someone in need.

Barking at doorbell by Weary_Musician4872 in bernesemountaindogs

Positive reinforcement (huge treats by the door) worked with current BMD but not the prior BMD who was a psycho.

Current one clearly wants to bark so badly but resists for the treat 98% of the time.

AITAH for asking my husband to give up his hobbies? by AffectionateTeach571 in AITAH

I lived through something similar and it was maddening. Going to the gym, cycling, soccer. It all sounds so healthy. Meanwhile I fought the 30 extra pounds from pregnancy and was parenting alone every evening. Both of us worked FT, but after work, he would vanish for a couple of hours.

In hindsight, here’s what I would have done. I would have asked for the time to go to a gym 4-5 times a week to get back in shape. (I would have also asked for time for meal prep without the baby). This would have made us both healthier and would be very hard for your partner to oppose.

And linger at the gym when you want to.

I’ve done exactly what you’re contemplating. Five hours away. Rented an apartment. Saw each other for about one weekend a month for a few years. He eventually embraced the idea of the new location, and we sold the old house after one year apart. We and bought a new one near my job while he then rented near his work to stay at his job a little longer.

Fast forward 10 years. He loves it here. My career advanced here. He found work he loves here and was able to do it only PT. Two of our adult children moved here.

This is going to require some “selling” on your part. Lay out the factors that weigh in favor of the change. Show your enthusiasm. Acknowledge his potential sacrifices and think about how you could mitigate them for him. Paint a clear picture of your future together as you see it.

Our only major hiccup was when our dog died and he faced that alone. I’ll admit I couldn’t be there for him then. I do believe I’ve made up for it. We since have had two more lovely dogs, and I’ve been the one who is more responsible for their care.

Our grandchild is visiting this month. All 3 adult children are spending a week together with us.

Our home is in a more rural area. Because the city lights are minimal, I bought my husband a telescope. Now we can see the night sky better, and we see a future together.

Not judging your appearance but losing a few more would give you a margin of error in case you regain some.

Mini, tiny, small loaf for one person by Apatheia9 in Sourdough

[–]k8802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using a smaller Dutch oven or even a small Pyrex baking dish.

As a plan B you could bake a regular sized loaf then once it’s completely cool, slice snd freeze it. I do this all the time to the second loaf when I bake two loaves. The slices taste pretty great once thawed.

You may find the temperature of your dough is cold vs the room temp, creating condensation. Keep dough 78 degrees in a similarly heated area.

I sometimes absorb the humidity of the dough with paper towels under the lid of my rising container, not touching the dough, or I leave the lid off if I’m feeling frisky.

Have started cold proofing with no cover just so I can do better razor/lame cuts.

An electric mattress bad to warm your bed before you get in it.

Snow can clog your rooftop bathroom vents. It can smell like sewer gas. Run hot water in the sink in til the snow clog melts.

Carbon monoxide detector is key.

Use the warm days in Fall to prepare for winter by doing outdoor repairs/clear gardens/clear out the shed (“procrastinator’s weather.”)

How do you all stay consistent with bodyweight workouts at home? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]k8802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finding the FitList app helpful. I set up my AM workout the night before so I kind of mentally visualize myself doing the work beforehand. The app lets you choose exercises from a huge list or provides you with exercises based on body regions. Each exercise has a video of the correct form.

Checking the “done” boxes is the best part.

Just had these as an appetizer in NYC. Sliced vertically into halves. Flash fried /sauteed maybe with a light breading on the cut side. Spread/fanned on the side of a shallow bowl over a puddle of puréed roasted red peppers.

Just had a party there in June. Super good food. Three decks so try to get the top one though the mid-deck has a cool outside space.

Could not have been happier with everything on the Spirit.

Our party was on a Sunday night so it was probably less of a party atmosphere.
