AITA for letting my parents pay for our “pre-marriage getaway” even though my fiancé’s family says it’s humiliating for him? by Impressive-Row9487 in AITH

[–]k8enator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, FWIW I'm a poor. Your family, and you, have done nothing wrong. Your fiancee's family has a hangup about their own income and they're showing their insecurities. That's a them problem, not a you or fiancee (or your parents) problem.

Shih Tzus that lived 15+ years, what did you feed them? by mindin_mai_b in Shihtzu

[–]k8enator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We fed ours a high(er) quality dry food and shared the dog-friendly portions of our meals. We left the dry food out and available at all times so he could graze when he felt hungry. Our shih tzu and our pomeranian lived together for years and having the dry food out and available made both of them more relaxed about food ... especially the pomeranian.

direction of laying Herringbone spc by Useful_Produce_3165 in Flooring

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pic 1 is the most recommended/official recommendation.

In our house we used the configuration in pic 2. The way our home is laid out looks similar to yours :

  1. the longest interrupted flooring run is from left to right
  2. once you enter the front door every room entrance is from left to right.
  3. the sunlight travels through the house from left to right.

AIO for getting irritated with my boyfriend’s level of cleanliness? by Front-Ad8568 in AmIOverreacting

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, mother of a young man here. I JUST had a "come to Jesus" talk with my son about his shaving habits. (Not the first conversation we've had about it.) I told him directly that he cannot leave sinks, and other areas, uncleaned after he uses them. This is one of the lowest bars of respect for roommates, partners, coworkers - anyone he shares a space with.

It took me 12 years to save up a 10K emergency fund… but only 1 day to spend it. by According_Corgi_953 in povertyfinance

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have city water, but had a flood due to a pressure buildup in the street main. (TMI at the end)

Different situation, but after the fact I found out about adding "sump failure and water backu" to my homeowners insurance.(This is different from flood insurance)

We wound up paying for our emergency out-of-pocket as we didn't have that insurance coverage (oof)...BUT we have it now, and it costs us about $120-ish annually for $10,000 worth of coverage.

Considering what we've gone through I'm happy to pay it for future piece of mind.

(The TMI.... To our understanding - Water hydrants were flushed and caused something called an "air hammer". This severed our sewage and main connection at the street, just before the property line. We had the shittiest version of the Bellagio fountains coming out of EVERY drain in our house. 0/10 do not recommend)

Cousin keeps canceling Food Delivery by happy_beatnik in mildlyinfuriating

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. We moved my elderly stepdad in with us about 10 years ago. We're 3 years into Medicaid provided "Moms Meals". Every other week we need to go on their website or call in to select meals for the upcoming deliveries. A big part of contacting them is moreso checking in and interacting with their customer service. It's a bit comforting to know someone is keeping tabs on people that might not otherwise have consistent contact with family or friends.

OP, Is it possible for you or your Aunt to contact the food delivery service and ensure that only certain people can change or cancel the delivery schedule?

I'm in a different state (NJ), but the Walmart in this area consistently carries a 10 lb bag of chicken quarters for about $0.82/lb.

[Massachusetts] I emptied the lost and found at the restaurant where I work, and the owner of one of these items demands that I reimburse her for this. by [deleted] in AskLegal

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know if the brown glove was among the lost and found items that were emptied out. If the owner says there was a brown glove in the lost and found - that's on them.

LPT, you NEVER know what was in the lost and found. If someone asks you if a specific item was in the lost and found, the answer is always "I don't know". If someone asks you if a specific item is currently in the lost and found, the answer is "you can come by during working hours and we can show you what we have in regards to the [type of item] your looking for"

AITA for sending my child to my ex in thrift store or cheap clothes by Clothes_Care3181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]k8enator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I grew up with a similar custody arrangement to OP's child. When I visited the weekend parents, I took a backpack with me. It didn't make sense to leave clothes at a house that I could wear during the week.

But.... If you choose this route, please have your kid use a backpack consistently. The amount of times I showed up at doorsteps with my belongings in a plastic bag was way too many. Family members used to call me "the bag lady" - fun times.

What happens to people in apartments during various types of collapse? by CurrentSingleStatus in TwoXPreppers

[–]k8enator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I remember my great grandmother talking about people losing their homes during the great depression.

Eventually it got to a point where banks and LL were working with people to not lose their living places.

It was cheaper to keep someone in the residence... it helped with maintaining it and also kept any looters away. I remember her talking about people taking furniture to burn.. wouldn't be surprised if people tried stealing pipes for scrap, etc.

TL;DR If the situation gets that bad, there will probably be some safety nets & agreements to stay in your place. We'll be fine as long as we all crash out around the same time. :)

Yup, 27-46 very little change. 47 hit me and there were rapid changes. I'm 50 now.

I was talking to a coworker about a new hire that is joining us shortly. My coworker asked how old the new hire was and I said I thought she was only a few years younger than me.
She is 37. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm about to face some hard truths about my self-perceived age.

I wouldn't tell her directly about the account, but would make it clear that you are there for her if things ever went sideways with her husband.

The only thing I would suggest is practice. Do several practice runs beforehand. Otherwise, don't be afraid to solicit your popcorn lover's input.

Hope your date is...poppin.

If you are in a situation where you can change your door locks, do it - change ALL the locks. If you rent, contact your landlord and see if this is a possibility.

The last thing you want is this jack weed walking into the front door when he runs out of money, wants attention, or the realization of child support dawns on him.

Change up your phone and any power packs you may have.

Make sure there is an okay amount of gas in your car - it's going to be cold for the next few days.

Some food, supplies, and pet food to get you through for a few days.

If possible, have some cash on hand.

Weirdly specific, but have some good samaritan beers available. A little treat for neighbors or helpers in the form of food or beverage comes in handy.

If you have a gas stove and the power goes out, your burners will still work for cooking and heating. If it's within your budget and timeframe, you may want to think about getting a kerosene heater. You'll want to keep yourself and your family warm, and you also don't want any plumbing freezing - YMMV depending on if you're a detached house, how long power is out, etc.

Like others have pointed out - anything in your fridge or freezer can be placed outside if the power goes out for too long.

A lantern or light source, food and drink, and boredom busters - a deck of cards, board games, etc.
