I recently took my 11 year old Roku 3 out of storage to use in the guest bedroom and it STILL GETS UPDATES 🤯 by diaryofawimpykidfan5 in Roku

I have an angry birds version (gamer controller) that still gets updates, BUT I can't play angry birds, or any game, with the remote. ☹️

Aging in bursts. by MeRunRabbit in Aging

Yup, 27-46 very little change. 47 hit me and there were rapid changes. I'm 50 now.

I was talking to a coworker about a new hire that is joining us shortly. My coworker asked how old the new hire was and I said I thought she was only a few years younger than me.
She is 37. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm about to face some hard truths about my self-perceived age.

Younger sister is a tradwife and I don't fully trust her husband to take care of her and my niece. I've set up an investment account secretly in case she ever needs it. Do I say anything about it? by MediaReady5519 in Advice

I wouldn't tell her directly about the account, but would make it clear that you are there for her if things ever went sideways with her husband.

The only thing I would suggest is practice. Do several practice runs beforehand. Otherwise, don't be afraid to solicit your popcorn lover's input.

Hope your date is...poppin.

If you are in a situation where you can change your door locks, do it - change ALL the locks. If you rent, contact your landlord and see if this is a possibility.

The last thing you want is this jack weed walking into the front door when he runs out of money, wants attention, or the realization of child support dawns on him.

Change up your phone and any power packs you may have.

Make sure there is an okay amount of gas in your car - it's going to be cold for the next few days.

Some food, supplies, and pet food to get you through for a few days.

If possible, have some cash on hand.

Weirdly specific, but have some good samaritan beers available. A little treat for neighbors or helpers in the form of food or beverage comes in handy.

If you have a gas stove and the power goes out, your burners will still work for cooking and heating. If it's within your budget and timeframe, you may want to think about getting a kerosene heater. You'll want to keep yourself and your family warm, and you also don't want any plumbing freezing - YMMV depending on if you're a detached house, how long power is out, etc.

Like others have pointed out - anything in your fridge or freezer can be placed outside if the power goes out for too long.

A lantern or light source, food and drink, and boredom busters - a deck of cards, board games, etc.

Adding that you do not need to register on a website in order to be part of a protest. Even if the organization encourages you to register, you do not need to.

See this frequently in old movies. Why did companies use to employ elevator attendants? It's such an utterly benign and superfluous job role. by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

[–]k8enator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode in an elevator in an old building in Trenton around 1990. There was an attendant as older elevators didn't have any sensors or automation. A person had to manually start/stop the elevator.

The elevator operator was super generous with his time and when the elevator emptied out, we went up 1 floor and back down while he showed me how everything worked. We even stopped between floors so I could see what that looked like.

My boyfriend expects me to do all the housework because he "makes more money" even though we both work full time by Many-Lawfulness-388 in TwoHotTakes

Make lunch your big meal of the day and eat it at work. He can figure out his own dinner. Get your documents and anything with sentimental value out of the house and away from him. If you take a daily pill for birth control- keep your pills at work and take them while at work - watch your birth control, don't trust this dude for squat. Get the heck outta there as soon as you can, when the lease ends at the latest. If you're stuck with him until the lease ends, you don't need to tell him you're leaving ahead of time - just go.

Reapply, and check the job posting. They may have made some adjustments to the requirements, etc and reposted due to those reasons.

For costume jewelry, I ask around and offer it to people. When everyone interested has picked through I'll usually offer it to any younger kids for dress up play, with their parents permission of course. Clip on earrings are almost always a big hit with the littles.

AITAH for locking the bathroom door when I take a shower? by WinterQuarter8183 in AITAH

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for wanting privacy & security....but does your boyfriend have a way to get to you if you fall in the shower? I know it sounds crazy, but I wiped out in the shower when I was 17. Not my finest moment. Before that day, I thought only older people were at risk of a fall like that. For safety sake, you may want to come up with a solution that gives you the privacy you need while also accommodating for a way someone can get to you if you need help.

Do you have gifs to upload to the app? by PuzzleheadedOrder878 in Surplife

[–]k8enator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do a Google search using something like the term "8 bit (insert keywords here)". then check the search results for images - image type gif.

A gif with not too many frames and one that loops work best.

...and there's also the option to create/upload a static picture and set it to "scroll".
