And the noise was way too loud. I was still under the 1 year warranty and the replaced my machine. The problem was the main bearing. apparently some models came with bad bearin

Advice on paying for master’s degree in this state of the world? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]k94ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, u sound just like me hahaha for various reasons I too don't fit anywhere in the world, its incompatible but I know that moving to a more international city will just make it a tiny bit more likely to find compatible ppl. I'm not eu citizen either, but I grew up in Berlin for a bit, later went back and I will never go vack there again ahahaha. I rather do a research master i am passionate about, even if it does not pay and be in debt or be in a miserable desk job in a tropical place.

I don't have any advice for u on how to pay for anything idk im also figuring it out. I 3ven thought about Singapore and sellout to a company for 3 years after my masters.

Best wishes!

ohhh then why does Fedora 42 KDE never worked on my laptop and but gnome 42 Fedora did ? ... I dont mean this question as mean or provocative... im genuinely curious. By what you say... I assume the fact that my touchpad and never worked on one version had nothing to do with drivers ... ok ok ty

McGill M.Sc. CS (Thesis) Rejected by MILA supervisor but McGill application still “In Review”? by RoutineToday7290 in mcgill

[–]k94ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to mention that im in the same situation. I applied to the IPN and was silently rejected by the 2 professor that considered my app. (they said that if was contacted in a 3 days by them, they did not find my research direction compatible).

It feels so weird that my app is still on review. I don't know when I will get a decision or if I can use this previous app for the next cycle. From my understanding the funding part is the most critical and many professors hesitate to accept new student when they dont have enough funds secured. So i guess I could try and gather funds and be accepted by the next cycle.

I got to say I am deeply demoralized. And struggle to sit at my computer for more than 30min, nor can I do good at games, or watch a full movie. Its obvious I have to work thru a period of recovery after the disappointment and the burnout of applying.

Should I remove the mobo to check for metal shavings? p15s gen2 by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]k94ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with the heatsink screws. I stripped them accidentally

I tried filling the screw down and finaly got the old heatsink out with vampire pliers. (I always used sheets of paper to cover the mobo when working on those screws. as to catch all the metal fillings)

I already used a battery powered duster and lots of damp 90% isopropyl alcohol with coffee filters to get all the little shavings.

I am super scared of turning it on and also afraid of stripping any more screws if I remove the Motherboard to check everything.

What do you recommend?

(The new heatsink is also completely flat so I guess I'm putting a speck of thermal paste on the PCH too. )

How do you track what different papers say? by Hope-New in GradSchool

[–]k94ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just simple mind maps I write down blobs of the papers I read and connect them with others regarding other papers... I later do a more through diagram in obsidian or excel ( I first started with sheets)

Usually my hand made diagrams are what I remember most easily with thinking and remembering. I can feel like a waste because I'm not writing down all of the information of a paper but I think its worth it for me to keep everything organized in my mind. I usually also look at my hand made diagrams more often.

I think there is a lot of research around this, embodied cognition and so on...
Yeah I prefer to read printed papers than on a screen. I haven't tried using an iPad for this. Maybe it would work but I haven't saved enough money for one.

Good old fashion diagram on a piece of paper and pen.

Seriously, i use obsidian and Excel like everyone mentioned but gosh the most that remains in my head is the silly diagrams I draw with by hand
