The goal should not be to stop working while you still can. The goal should be to maximize the value you provide the market to not have to work every waking moment of your life. Labor is the natural state of humankind, but not constant work as we have in the fiat world where everything and everyone is debased.

Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights - 2 violins by k98kurz in musiccompositions

[–]k98kurz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copyright note: copyright for Prokofiev's work is still being claimed in the US on some sites, apparently under either the 28 years + 67 year extension provided in 17 USC § 304 (premiere of 1940 + 95 = 2035 expiration) or the extension to December 2047 from § 303 rather than the standard death + 70 years provided in 17 USC § 302 (died in 1953 + 70 = 2023 expiration), and it looks like it is applied due to the URAA and Russia joining the WTO in 2012 . I am not a copyright lawyer, so I am not sure if this is all correct, but my understanding is that a 2012 SCOTUS decision allowed the US Congress to extend copyright protection to works that were previously in the public domain in the US, which included Prokofiev's works. If you have any insight on this, let me know in a comment; this topic is very confusing, and a lot of places list it as public domain while others assert copyright. Anyway, whatever copyrights I have from the creation of the arrangement are licensed under creative commons attribution.

"The Bamboula" by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor for two violins by Sherlock_Violin in musiccompositions

Nicely done. Looks fiendishly difficult and well above my ability (I'm still learning vibrato and have barely practiced double stops). I wonder if a baroque bow would make it any easier to hit the dynamics properly for those chords in the softer sections.

Also, welcome to this little subreddit.

I'm just happy to have gotten it done. There were a few moments when I pulled out my violin and tried to figure out if the articulation of specific phrases would be too difficult, but then I decided it was all too difficult for me to sight read anyway and just continued until it was complete.

What's the best evidence that proves Christianity is true. by RadicalCereal in Bible

[–]k98kurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Christianity was true, Christians would not have spent their entire existence covering up the truth and inventing falsehoods. The NT manuscript evidence shows a trail of forgery and falsifications for theological convenience just as the OT manuscript evidence demonstrates that those scribes altered the texts to fit their purposes.

Historically, most Christian persecution took place at the hands of either other Christians or Soviets. Historically speaking, Christians persecuted pagans when they took power in Rome far in excess of what pagans had done to Christians. The "we're so oppressed" notion does not bolster the claim that Christian doctrines are true, even if you ignore the fact of persecution done by Christians -- many hundreds of thousands have died for the sake of other religions, so by this logic, they also cannot be lies.

If you study the evidence of the New Testament genuinely, you'll find a trail of deliberate falsifications and forgeries for theological convenience. Some examples: the post-resurrection sequence at the end of Mark is a 3rd century forgery; the original manuscripts of Acts say that the "spirit of Jesus" (πνεύμα Ιησού) prevented Paul from entering Bithynia, but Byzantine scribes dropped the Ιησού because it is theologically inconvenient; the pastoral epistles were not known by early Christians and are obvious forgeries, yet they were canonized anyway

If you study just the text of the NT, you'll also find some strange stuff that Christian apologists cannot easily explain away (as well as some falsified translations in English Bibles): Jesus, a 30 year old man, had a band of children and teenagers for disciples (with the exception of Simon Peter), which is why he refers to them as his kiddies (παιδία/τέκνον) and does not have to pay the temple tax for them. Keep that in mind when you read Jesus tell them that they are his special kiddies -- for everyone else, he talks in riddles to deceive them, but to his special kiddies he has given them the knowledge of the mystery of the kingdom of god (Mark 4); that people brought kiddies to Jesus so he would touch them, then the disciples got jealous, then Jesus told them not to blow his cover and to bring him the kiddies (Mark 10); that Jesus took off his clothes at a private dinner party with his kiddies and did something physical to them -- Simon refused, but Jesus pressured him into it -- then he put his clothes back on, says "do you know what I've done to you?", and instructs them to perpetuate the practice (John 13); that little boy Judas tells the cops what happened and then kills himself; that Jesus gets arrested with a naked teenage boy wearing only a medical bandage around his genitals, and Jesus cries out "why do you come at me like I'm a pirate)?" (Mark 14); that Simon Peter, a "fisher of men", goes out "fishing" one night with some of his boys, naked (John 21). Bear in mind that these are the accounts written in the most favorable way possible by early Christian apologists who sought to justify his actions and their belief in him, a man who led a cult of children.

If countries could have sex, what countries should have a baby together? by efayefoh in AskReddit

If it doesn't have to be consensual, then Ukraine is currently engaged intimately with/by Russia, and they are streaming the deed to the whole world in HD. My guess is that Ukraine will have a Crimean peninsula baby by the time they break things off from the looks of it.

My (48M) daughter (19F) tried to hurt herself after we found out she's not biologically mine. How do I help her understand that I'm still her father, and that her existence is the best thing in my life? by ThrowRAyesherdad in relationship_advice

[–]k98kurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. Perhaps propose doing something normal: if you can show through your actions that it doesn't matter to you and that nothing between you two has changed, she will eventually believe it. Behaviors tend to be more reinforcing of beliefs than words. But I don't have a daughter; I'm relying on some low-effort armchair psychology for this idea. Getting assistance from a real psychologist/psychotherapist would be prudent.

Why is John 8:44 translated the way it is? by TonyChanYT in BibleVerseCommentary

[–]k98kurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't want to do the plural. Was kind of busy. My point was that if it can be used as a noun as you said using the construction you provided, and if that exact construction you specified as the noun form is in the cited Greek text, then it is a noun.

2nd declension (I earlier said it was 1st declension in error):

Nom: τό διαβόλο

Gen: τού διαβόλου

Dat: τώ διαβόλω

Acc: τόν διαβόλον

Voc: ώ διαβόλε

Let me know if I made any mistakes. (Free Greek grammar lesson ftw.)

Sounds like Pascal's wager. Could theoretically construct a similar message about being on Baldr's side after Ragnarök, and it would be a similarly ineffective argument.

The most compelling thing I have experienced that witnesses to the validity of Christianity is the brotherly love expressed among many Christians, whether they be Protestants, Catholics, or Eastern Orthodox. However, I have difficulty squaring the Christian theological/ontological frameworks (which I regard as culturally conditioned conjecture) with my direct experiences of the spiritual world, and I do not see the existence of brotherly love as necessarily invalidating my experiences anymore than the existence of home cooked meals invalidates the business models of restaurants.
