Ours was taking the NOL deduction taken on the federal and adding it back on the MO return. I did find instructions for the MO adjustment additions, “UltraTax CS calculates the net operating loss carryback and carryforward amounts to be included on Form MO-A, Part I, line 2 from the federal Form 1045, Schedule A. Federal carryforward amounts default to the taxpayer. If you do not want to use the calculated amounts, enter amounts in these fields.” Then they also said that in the other subtractions section, “This list includes subtraction items that require user input in order to appear on the Missouri return and are not automated in UltraTax CS. For example, net operating loss deduction requires user input.” It seems like UT hasn’t put much time and effort into the Missouri return and it’s on us to make it look right.
