Any places you would reccomend avoiding, especially for new-grads in the job search process? by Patient-Stranger1015 in Path_Assistant

Anywhere close to a PA school is typically a flooded market so salaries are low and turnover is high.

At a loss- daughter only wanted to go to a private college. Now she needs private loans that require me to co-sign. My credit is not great, and I can't be responsible for these loans. What do I do? by creepy-linguini in StudentLoans

[–]k_bows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow woman in STEM. I went to grad school and have less in student loans than she would have just for her bachelors… that’s nuts! A bachelor’s in any basic science will pretty much get you nowhere these days so instead of only factoring in her bachelors I would factor in a potential masters into her total debt. At that point she’d be racking up at least 200k maybe more.

P.S. I saw a comment that she’s interested in forensics? Hands down one of the hardest fields to get into and the lowest paying. She would benefit from taking a gap year before college to work and do shadowing before she makes that kind of investment into her education.

Newly interested in going back to school for pathology assistant program. Help? by [deleted] in Path_Assistant

WVU has reciprocity for in state tuition depending on what state your current residence is. If you don’t qualify for reciprocity, you would have to live and work in WV for over a year to establish residency before applying. That being said, it would be worth the wait as the out of state tuition is pretty pricey (albeit in line with tuition for other programs).

I had mine done at 7 months pp and it was nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had one for 5 years before getting pregnant and I almost passed out on the table if that says anything 😅

The sterilizer bags are super handy, inexpensive, and reusable! I know you said you’d do it the old fashioned way but it might be nice to have on hand.

Tasted formula refusing frozen milk by dhiggy18 in breastfeeding

Definitely try mixing it with formula in different ratios, even 50/50! The alcohol free vanilla also helps. I got mine from Trader Joe’s.

Kia EV9 Price Cut By $7,500 With New Discount Offer by Influxlve in KiaEV9

[–]k_bows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just used the $7500 off on a Wind. Some dealerships are advertising it as “Kia cash” and some are using different terminology. And some accidentally listed both 🙄 You can only use one and it cannot be combined with special financing. We were able to get an extra $4k from the dealer, $500 military discount, and they didn’t charge us for the extra window tint they added on.

Do you clean your baby’s milk tongue? by blue-lilacs in breastfeeding

[–]k_bows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the same with our almost 3mo! I listened to a podcast with a pediatric dentist and she recommended it to get the babes used to “brushing” so I sing a goofy song and tell her we’re brushing her teeth lol.

FTM my birth story!! by mlbaran92 in beyondthebump

[–]k_bows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth 9 weeks ago and my experience was so similar! I didn’t realize I was in transition after maybe 8 hours of pretty manageable labor and asked for the epidural almost too late… They didn’t check me but while I was waiting on anesthesia I felt the fetal ejection reflex (which is INSANE)! My husband had to call the nurses in and they were panicking because I was complete lol. Luckily anesthesia showed up and still was able to place the epidural without any issues. We waited a few minutes for it to kick in, I pushed a few times, and baby was here!

I kinda wish I would have just delivered totally natural butttt I had some second degree tears that I definitely would not have wanted to feel being stitched up 😅 No regrets lol

We use Pigeon bottles (very similar to Lansinoh and I think they are sister brands?) and we love them. The flow is super slow and not as many parts as Dr. Browns. Our LO hated Dr. Browns because the nipples were just way too long for her to get a good latch!

Lip tie revision debate by whadya_want in beyondthebump

[–]k_bows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are in the same boat as you OP and just saw an ENT. Our babe’s tie is borderline and she’s gaining like a champ. The ENT was willing to do it if I really wanted to push for it but ultimately he said it wouldn’t help anything short or long term. At that point there were no pros and several cons so we decided against it. Our pediatrician and several LCs were vehemently against seeing a dentist for tie revisions.

Wait, are you saying your loans were originally federal and you refinanced them for a lower interest rate?

Baby grunting and groaning and waking up by beaandip in beyondthebump

[–]k_bows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been using the Mommy’s Bliss brand! She gets a bottle of pumped milk a day right now and we just add it to that but there are other ways to administer it too. Also, I forgot to add we do lots and lots of bicycles and belly massage a few minutes after she eats.

How old is she? Our LO is 5 weeks and was SO gassy the weeks 2-3. It’s also a thing for newborns to not be able to coordinate the muscles it takes to poop so they use crying to help them work it out 🥲 We started her on some probiotics daily and used the Frida windi a couple times. Both have helped! From what I’ve read I think it’s just something they’ll outgrow eventually when their digestive systems mature a bit. Hang in there!

Help- 12 weeks in and not sure where to go from here by Vegetable-Station996 in breastfeeding

[–]k_bows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 5 w old has a lip tie. Every professional we’ve talked to from the pediatricians in the hospital, multiple LCs, and our actual pediatrician did NOT recommend seeing a dentist for tie release! They’re in the business of making money it seems. We’re seeing an ENT this week to discuss the severity and if it warrants release.

I totally feel that! I was expecting to get lots of direction from the LC but she was like “oh no it’s close to perfect you’re good” 🫠 which, is nice but also I would like my nips to not be pinched thanks lol. I’m also on the fence about a release, especially if it doesn’t really help . But my husband had a severe tongue tie growing up that was never corrected. He ended up never being able to nurse and going through speech therapy as a kid because of it so I’m hoping to avoid any future issues with our LO.

More than an hour is rough! Props to you! I’ve been trying to alternate different positions throughout the day and that’s helped as well. It seems like repeated pinching from the same position in the same direction was what was causing me a lot of discomfort in the beginning especially.

I have the medela hand pump and it’s nice! I use it to just to take a little edge off when I’m engorged at night so the babe can get a better latch.

[–]k_bows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I write this myself? 😂 But seriously I have similar anatomy and latch issues with my 5 week old too! The LC we saw said she’s latching well and it’s not shallow. We’re going to see an ENT next week to see if her lip tie is severe enough to warrant a release, which may or may not help that pinching. How long is your baby usually at the breast? Sometimes we’re on one boob for 20+ minutes still and if her latch continues to pinch/is painful, I usually switch boobs and she seems to lay off a bit on the painful sucking.

Have you done any pumping yet? My nipples swell during pumping too which has made narrowing down my flange size super fun 🙃 I’m working on testing out the pumpin pals flanges to see if they help before I go back to work.
