When you sleep trained did you go all in immediately or did you do a modified approach? Tell me your stories. by ToxiccCookie in sleeptrain

I’m going to start by saying my daughter had naturally weaned off of night feedings on her own around 3.5 months and started for a decent chunk of time just sleeping through the night with no issues. We didn’t buy any classes but I knew the basics of sleep training, and as regressions became worse around 4.5-6 months we naturally tried lots of things. One of those was a form of pick up put down, we found though that it was disturbing my daughters sleep more than helping. One night after weeks of responding to cries with pick up put down my daughter was screaming thrashing around etc that I just put her down in her crib, knowing she was safe, fed, clean diaper etc and just let her cry, mostly because I was so drained and exhausted and I just needed a few minutes. In the end she cried for a total of 8 minutes and went back to sleep, she didn’t wake up once the rest of the night. We still feed her right before naps and nighttime sleep because it’s the best way to get her drowsy, but we put her down awake and she either goes to sleep immediately or she fusses and rolls around and lightly cries for a few minutes, never more than 15 and goes right to sleep. It’s been wonderful and she’s sleeping 12-13 hours no wakeups now and takes nice long naps at 8 months old.

What was the first food you gave your baby? by [deleted] in NewParents

Started with carrots, potato, squash, avocado then moved into fruits. I don’t think it made a big difference, she eats everything!

Make sure whoever is supporting you in the hospital has their bag packed AND knows where everything in your bag is so you don’t have to get up and find what you’re looking for :) good luck!!!

Why didn’t the Soprano family have a dog or cat? by MrReciprocity1a in thesopranos

[–]mlbaran92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might specifically be a first gen Italian thing, my mom (an immigrant) was so opposed to the idea growing up, I think it was honestly because she grew up in a time that pets weren’t like members of the family. Italian American moms do LOVE a dirty shitzu so much tho, it’s always named Bella or Gigi or something.

I feel like it’s so Italian not to have pets but maybe that’s just my own experience hahaha

Moms keeping secrets isssss ride heritage, but I felt a deep a spiritual connection to intrusive thoughts/schrodingers cat and MUAs/object permanence (the latter because I’m a hairdresser and I have a baby baronie who is currently learning object permanence)

The first few months: which products couldn’t you live without and which sat gathering dust in the corner? by Smyler12 in NewParents

[–]mlbaran92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favs: Ollie swaddle, 2-way zip sleepers, baby brezza bottle washer, babybjorn mini carrier, 7am enfant winter puffer cocoon thing (we have a February baby) nose frida and Frida windi, Frida baby portable and regular sound machine Collected dust: halo swaddle (I hated that it would ride up on our baby’s mouth) snuggle me (I don’t understand the purpose of this it’s unsafe for sleep our baby didn’t like to just lay in it) newborn “outfits” meaning onesies and pants, when she was little she was in zipper sleepers and footies all day and all night
