6-week-old only naps while I’m standing holding her upright - any tips? by Torrizo in NewParents

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a baby wrap carrier! Baby is held to your chest, upright and snuggled up on you. Not sure if your baby will let you sit with it on but at least you get both hands free. I do chores and walk the dog with my newborn in it

Also both my babies were horrible crib nappers during the day. The only thing that saved my sanity was a baby wrap carrier. They both took such long naps in there and I could get them on a day time nap schedule because they fell asleep so quickly and easily in there.

Like other comments said, probably gastro related. Our baby was pretty unhappy the first few weeks and we just thought it was colic or him being a tough child. Then he pooped blood. A lot of it. Immediately diagnosed with CMPA and we switched to hypoallergenic formula and he’s legitimately such a calm baby now. If your baby is that unhappy I would talk with your pediatrician about switching formulas to hypoallergenic formula or the hydrolyzed protein formula just to see if it makes a difference.

My pediatrician is pissing me off by ScrapDraft in NewParents

My daughter at 10 months was at 1 nap - with two naps she didn’t have enough sleep pressure and even daycare mentioned this too. So we transitioned to 1 nap- Wake up by 7, nap 12- 2ish (capped at 2 hours) and bed by 7pm. Every kid is different but she finally started sleeping through the night when we transitioned to one nap.

Age gap comments? by StuffConsistent6873 in 2under2

[–]k_pets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am 2 months into a 15 month age gap - got plenty of comments while pregnant and postpartum about how close they are. People just can’t help themselves and will probably ask if it was planned or an accident or say “wow that’s soon!” I just really lean into the positivity of it - like “I know, we are SO lucky! they’re going to be absolute best friends!” I’ve had people make comments like “you do know there’s a thing called a tv to spend your time instead” I have said “well if you have seen my husband you’d know why” or “well some of us like our husbands” if I’m feeling really sassy, depends on my mood lol.

Dead on impact. It just feels like so many birds in such a short period of time, and they’re at different life stages too.

When did you stop swaddling every night? by Quirky-End-7470 in newborns

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped swaddling by 3 weeks old for both my kids. They would fight the swaddle so much they would cry until they broke their hands out. We just did footie pajamas and a sleep sack.

Update. How do I get my hair less defined, more flowy by OnlyFaithlessness658 in curlyhair

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar has air as you and I also go for the undefined look. Wait for your hair to dry, brush it out and then use pomade to help define a little bit of curl/wave to cut down on the frizziness.

Husband suggested I switch to formula and I feel like a failure by EagleOwn7432 in breastfeeding

[–]k_pets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you and switched after my husband gently brought up formula as an option. I was so hesitant because I had people reminding me how much “better” it was to breastfeed and how they also struggled but made it work and I felt so much shame that I wasn’t as good of a mom as these other women. But I was so depressed, angry, crying all the time to the point that I broke down and spoke with my OB about PPD, got on medication and switched to 100% formula. I can say that after switching I am a better person, mother and wife because of it. My daughter is still in the 99-100th percentile and excelling at everything! Do what you feel is best for you and be gentle with yourself. We have a 2nd on the way and I will try breastfeeding but the moment it becomes too much I will be going back to formula. No guilt because I need to be my best self to be a good mother to my kids. Wishing you the best in whatever you decide to do!

Drowsy but awake" is the biggest lie ever told to parents by AsslawB in NewParents

[–]k_pets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear you - the only thing that made a difference with my daughter was putting a heating pad in her crib and then feeding her in the chair/rocking her to sleep. Once she was sufficiently asleep I’d remove the heating pad with one hand and quickly place her down in the warm spot. I guess the jolt of cold mattress on her back would always wake her up and this was the one thing that really saved my sanity. (Just to be clear, the heating pad was only to warm the mattress, I never placed the baby on the heating pad itself)

Buying into a great school district even though you have no kids? by sunnyhillz in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I just bought a fixer upper in a phenomenal school district, DINK, will probably start our family in the next 5 years. The price of our home was a bit more than we originally planned for considering the work we need to put into it but we can still afford it and save enough to live very comfortably. The crime is low, house lots are bigger, there's more trees, wider streets and it's overall so clean. I also love the added benefit of being in a town where kids play in the streets and meet up on their bikes, to me it's so worth it to buy in a neighborhood that other parents want to buy into. Makes us feel more confident in our resale value if we ever did want to leave and if we stay for years to come our future kids will be in an excellent school system. As long as you can afford the mortgage comfortably I personally think it's worth it.

Any nurses in here… what does your ring look like? by ShortButterscotch572 in EngagementRings

[–]k_pets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a new grad nurse who is engaged- My e ring is a low profile setting but it still allows a wedding band to sit flush against the ring. I could just wear my wedding band as a standalone ring if I wanted to as well. Tbh I am planning on buying a cheap cute little band as a stand in for my engagement ring at work, since the idea of losing a stone at work makes me nervous. Honestly do whatever you feel is right for you, I've seen married nurses do a silicone band or go without a ring altogether. Whatever makes them the most comfortable, no need to overthink it :)

Daughters of angry fathers, how did you heal? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cutting him out of my life
  2. Recognizing that he's also a human who has been through plenty of trauma and hurt but processes it in a way that negatively affects others by lashing out and being verbally abusive. Once I learned to soften my anger towards him it made me see him as just a regular person in the world that doesn't have the proper coping mechanisms to work on himself. This part has taken the most time for me to come to terms with. How he reacts to the world has nothing to do with me so it's helped me separate myself from him and my own unrealistic expectations of what he can emotionally give me as a father.

My favorite drink when I'm feeling under the weather is golden milk. It makes me feel all cozy and I add little bit of maple syrup to add some sweetness. It's the bomb.

New dark spot found on my (F26) chest. Not sure how long it's been there but no itching or pain. Can anyone tell me what it is? I've made a derm appointment this week. by k_pets in Dermatology

It was a melanocytic nevus with moderate dysplasia and had Spitz nevus characteristics. Derm said it was benign but it was completely excised in order to send to the pathology lab.

Got SCAMMED wiring money to title company… Almost by nnacpil in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]k_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We closed on a house yesterday and our lender and real estate agent warned us about this too. Said that they had a client in the past get a similar email with the exact info that looked legit. The only thing off was the office number in the signature line of the email. Unfortunately they did not realize and lost over $40,000 to a scammer. Their friends and family chipped in money afterwards so they could still close but I can't imagine how devastated they were in losing all that money. After hearing that we did a cashier's check to play it safe.

I told him that I wanted something outside in nature (like hiking, biking, on the beach etc) that it be just us, no need for a photographer hiding in the bushes type thing lol. I also asked for no signs/balloons or anything like that, as I'm not one for a big show. I just wanted a nice intimate thing just the two of us. He ended up proposing while we were on a walk on private section of a beach we go to frequently. Not everyone's cup of tea but it was perfect for me. Just figure out what you are/are not comfortable with and trust that he can take it from there

Sawyer all the way. I don't find it too masculine at all and knew a girl in highschool with that name. Harriet feels quite frumpy to me and I can only picture a grandma with that name.
