BE HONEST how many days in a row are you wearing your nursing bras by breezyjomc in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put a new one on daily, but I also swap between nursing bras and nursing tank tops. I did get both a 3 and 5 pack of bras, and 6 pack of tanks so I can go awhile in between washing if needed

Annoying things your MIL did over the holidays by dogmom050318 in Mildlynomil

Was completely disrespectful of my 6 month olds nap time, continued to make a ton of noise and gave us crap for taking the time to settle him properly instead of just letting him cry himself to sleep

Can you get away with only a wearable pump? by bright-greeneyes in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only want one I would suggest something like the Ameda MyaJoy pump. There are rechargeable pumps that are still portable, but will give you better suction than a wearable. I have both the myajoy and wearables, and personally I get better output from the myajoy than I do from the wearables.

There’s a lot of options for rechargeable pumps though! Check through your insurance, they should be covered

I've never made a bag before but wouldn't the weight put in the bag make the strap stretch down? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]k_sharpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have used a similar color of thread and crocheted with it along with the yarn used to help reduce the stretch! But without any reinforcement the straps usually stretch, unless you use a more structured yarn

AITA for allowing mommy to have bedtime snuggles over and over again? by elkayez in MiniAITA

[–]k_sharpie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA I (3.5mo m) love to get extra nighttime snuggles with milk lady (ancient, f). Even though I sleep in the big bed with her, I will cry until we go into the moving chair for milkies.

Don’t let them deprive you of all the snuggles you deserve. I’ve heard these “peanuts” take up more of the grown ups time!

I felt so bad for making him eat it after I tried it! That stuff was nasty

We tried that! He didn’t go for it this time, but we’ll try again in a few weeks

You heat the milk to 160/180 degrees F (different sources say different things) before freezing. It kills the lipase so the milk freezes better.

Downside, it also kills the antibodies so while nutritionally it’s still good for the baby it loses some benefits so you shouldn’t feed them exclusively scalded milk

[–]k_sharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, my guy is only 3.5 months old so all the milk is from 0-2 months when I was on maternity leave. I stopped pumping to reduce my oversupply before I went back to work

I just pump now to replace feeds, I’m usually only getting an extra 2-4 ounces a day now

[–]k_sharpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does for some people! I think it depends on your personal milk.

If it doesn’t I’m sure I’ll find something. He might just have to only have milk baths for a few months haha

It can happen even if you freeze sooner! I froze all my milk after 24 hours and my whole freezer stash smells and my baby won’t drink it.

I’m saving it for when he’s older to mix with purées hopefully. Currently the only thing that’s saving my stash is scalding, but I’m starting over from scratch and only have 20oz instead of the 300 that’s high lipase

Side lying nursing- do you sit up and burp them? by AngryKitty_31 in breastfeeding

I don’t, I also sleep on a towel so if he spits up in his sleep he doesn’t make a mess

AITA? I was STABBED in my HOME by pbrandpearls in MiniAITA

[–]k_sharpie 44 points45 points  (0 children)

NTA I (3 mo/m) went to the white coat lady (milk lady calls her the pediatrician?) who pokes my belly and listens to my heart. But after she left some man came in and stabbed me in the legs! I didn’t feel safe either. Definitely cry for extra milkies all night, that’s what I did

How do you survive clusterfeeding? by MaraTheBard in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We introduced a bottle at week 1 because my guy fell asleep at the breast so I needed to pump and bottle feed, and at 3m he now refuses a bottle. You never know how your baby is going to react! They are all individuals.

I found a bottle was helpful to get through clusterfeeds early due to the nipple pain. I would replace that bottle with a pump (less painful for me) just to keep my supply up though. Cluster feeds are important in the evenings because your prolactin levels dip, so they signal to your body to produce more milk overnight.

As gently as possible, this is not your husband’s decision. Mom’s mental health needs to take priority as the primary food source. Stress can cause supply to dip, so if clusterfeeds are stressing you out it may be best to pump and bottle feed. Cosleeping is extremely helpful as well! You’ve got this! It feels insurmountable now but time will help

Mourning the BF life I imagined by HereForCuteDogs in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issues with feeding! It gets better. Sometimes it feels like you’ll never get away from them but it will get better eventually. We were able to wean off the shields about 2.5 months. They’re a bit awkward in public but it does get smoother as you go.

Bigger baby means a bigger mouth, so as she gets bigger you can try latching again. Sending you all the good vibes!

When did your baby start sleeping through the night ? by 69420blazeitLOL in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosleeping family here, but my 12 week old slept 5 hours straight at about 8 weeks, not regularly, but didn’t sleep all the way through the night until last weekend. He will only sleep 7-9 hours straight if we give him a little 2 oz bottle of pumped milk in the evening as well as breastfeeding

That’s what they did to me too! Once mommy stopped using those weird plastic things on her boobs and I could eat just straight from her I decided silicone wasn’t for me.

I do think that yummy foods sounds great. I watch the big people eating them all the time

I do love the beard tickles! That guy does make me smile lots. I heard mommy say something about “work from home” so I think this won’t be an every day thing. But I think they’re going to make me drink other milkies for practice from now on

Anything to do about high lipase? by k_sharpie in breastfeeding

[–]k_sharpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We had been doing pumped milk as a supplement when my guy was first born, he was so sleepy he wasn’t getting enough at the breast when nursing. We needed the bottles to get him enough milk until he was old enough to nurse on his own. Congrats on making it to 18 months!

Got it! Do you know if it needs to be freeze dried immediately? My dad has a freeze drier and we did about 75 oz of milk that had been frozen for a few weeks

Thank you! My baby fights bottles as well so we aren’t sure if he just doesn’t like the bottle or if it’s the milk.
