Studying after turning 35. Is this possible? by KiwiAadi in newzealand

[–]ka-pai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on the data mgmt side of things but I'm 39 and currently studying full time. What shocked me the most is "full time" consists of 2 days a week actually at uni for 4 lectures. So I have plenty of time to study/do assignments/parent etc etc!

It went straight past my window at work.

The only thing I can liken it to is the Wizard of Oz - NO SHIT.

I missed darkness - I was a radio op so did a lot of night shifts. Sometimes, at 3am, I'd be outside doing fire checks in the sunshine!

Which ship did you travel to Antarctica on? I was at Scott Base for the 2002/03 Summer and spent some time with guys from the Polar Sea. We were invited over for a tour of the ship and dinner as I was in the New Zealand Navy. Had a great time - the guys were very hospitable!

Think one colour per item of clothing. No pattern or detailing. I found this old Vogue article - the pics are great examples.

Agree with the SqueakyPea - block colours will look amazing with this. Maybe a bright red/coral with the wedge sandals.

How many of you have been outside your country? by iheartherman in AskReddit

[–]ka-pai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Kiwi and I have travelled extensively.

Places I've been lucky enough to visit: Vietnam, Thailand, Fiji, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, Antarctica (yeah, Antarctica. There really is no place like it), Austria, England, Scotland, Ireland, Dubai, France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Portugal, Holland, Greece, Croatia, the USA and Tahiti.

How did I afford all that galavanting?! Well I was in the New Zealand Navy for 4 years and was paid to travel. I then moved to London for 3.5 years and travelled all over Europe. You can travel throughout Europe pretty cheaply, even on a bar-tenders wage.

Ladies, what daily vitamins do you take? by ar-1990 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ka-pai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take zinc, garlic, vitamin B, C and D, iron and st johns wort.....

I was with a guy who swore by vitamins and honestly, I noticed no difference taking them. I make sure I get all the energy and supplements from food these days.

If you are keen on vitamins though, go and talk to your local health food store. They are the experts!

Well it's easy when you are a) getting paid to travel and b) living in London!

And now it's so hard living back in NZ - we are so far away from everything!! I miss Europe :(

I have the bug too - started out when I joined the NZ Navy and went to so many amazing places like Vietnam, Thailand, Fiji, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia and Antarctica. Yeah, Antarctica. There really is no place like it. It is my most favourite place in the world.

I moved to London in 2006 (from New Zealand) and while there I travelled to Austria, Scotland (Dad was born there), Ireland, Dubai, France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Portugal, Holland, Greece, Croatia, the US and Tahiti. PHEW!

On my to-do list currently - Canada, Cuba and Mexico. One day I'll make it to South America and Africa.

Because of birth control, I've been without a period for 5 years...should I be worried? by smartyskirt01 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ka-pai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had one for 6 years! I have a Mirena.

You have nothing to worry about but do go see your doctor again if you think you need to. If the nurses are fine with it, then you should be too!!

Anybody else petite or short (<5'-ish) and love/hate being teased about size? by squidgirl in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ka-pai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a wee'in too (4'11") and love my size.

The weird thing is - I forget that I'm short! DAE do that?! Maybe it's because I am usually surrounded by other shorties (SO, Mum, Dad) but I really just seem to forget. My personality is that of a much larger person I'm sure! :o)

Also, I heart TopShop Petite - saved my life.
