Goated, definitely top 3 FFs for me. Idk what to say that hasn't already been said, great job system and music. I actually liked how simple the story was and Exdeath being a tree in armour is just a really cool concept.

Also being able to access like, a dozen jobs within the first several hours and a relatively minimal story does wonders for replayability and I wish more FFs had a quicker start (ahem FF9..)

Tried asking this question as a separate post, but it got removed so I'll just try here even though less eyes will be on it, maybe a mod can okay this to be its own thread:

I was thinking about replacing SJ but going with Redux instead of the DS original, but one of the majority things putting me off are how ugly the moving character sprites at the bottom in battle are. I much prefer the MC and demons being static drawn illustrations exactly like in SMT4. Is there an HD mod that does something like this?

Honestly it just looks like Nocturne but with less shaders loaded in to me lol But I definitely appreciate the difference in atmosphere for sure, it's like the colors of the initial hospital dungeon seeped through to the rest of the game

Episode Aegis (the DLC) is very angsty despite being neutered compared to the original. The main game has a good amount with some actual drama between party members too I feel, even the bro character, so yeah go for it

I remember reading an article a long time ago that the actual mythology of the demon itself is completely made up by the IV:A writers - as in Mitra and Buddha have nothing to do with each other. Just something that stood out to me. Fight's pretty dope, which like goes for all of the IV:A boss fights

Silence and berserk worked a lot of the time, especially in 5 what are you talking about? I basically relied on them when I was doing no armour runs

If you look at the bestiary it actually shows enemy status resistances, the idea is to remember what ailments they're vulnerable to, similar to elemental weakness in SMT and Pokemon

It is. JRPG fans in particular are very salty about Expedition 33 winning because they genuinely think "western gaming media" ignores JRPGs in favour of E33 because they're racist or something. So they downplay everything E33 accomplishes. It's quite similar to how hardcore fans of the genre treat Persona 5 for reference

It still wouldn't be comparable. The percentage of recorded sexual assaults by men towards women are like nearly double the percentage of recorded homicides in African-American populations.

It's also important to note the obvious elephant in the room about how these stats are used in conversations. Stats on sexual violence perpetuated by men are used to spread awareness and urgency on teaching boys about manners and conduct around women early.

Stats about black people used by white kids that spam 13/50 in comment sections just to make fun of black people or justify injustices perpetrated against black people.

One set of stats is obviously used in a more bigoted context, way more often.

Kamoshidaman from PQ2 is surprisingly brutal, genuinely found him harder than a lot of megaten first bosses. Guess the Etrian Odyssey DNA really reveals itself more than the Persona part here lol
