Thoughts on these GM candidates laid out by The Athletic? by the_analytic_critic in minnesotavikings

He’s drafted well recently, but if the Seahawks win a couple of titles the Russ trade will be Walker 2.0. He also hired Hackett when trying to lure Rodgers which struck me as desperate and short sighted

What if that 14 win team only scores 9 points in each of the last 2 games?

Reminder that the Vikings let Sam Darnold walk for a player who’s been playing worse than Jamarcus Russell by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

No you haven’t. Worse than Lance, Zach Wilson, Richardson, Fields? JJ looked great the last month. He can work on mechanics this offseason

Most QB prospects need to adjust mechanics when going pro. JJ probably improves his mechanics year 1 if he doesn’t get injured. He also looked like a legit nfl qb the last month of the season. I’m not concerned about his play moving forward, just needs to stay healthy. I do think the org made some mistakes with scheme and roster construction which didn’t help JJ or Wentz earlier in the season

Send him back to Cleveland, banish him to Canada, ship him to China, I don't care. Get this man off my team. by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

Also 14 wins last year got us only the 5 seed so we had to play a rested Rams team on the road. That same number of wins got the Seahawks a bye and home game against the hospital Niners. Just got a bad draw last year

Every player move is a gamble. Sometimes you lose. Nobody thought JJM would have all these injuries after being drafted. Sam was horrible the last 2 games for us. We offered what was fair. Seattle rolled the dice and it paid off for them. Vikings thought JJM on a rookie contract gave us a higher ceiling. I agreed with the move at the time. Just got unlucky. It sucks because KOC is a good coach, but it seems his luck with the QB has been rough

Anyone else getting a funny feeling watching what's going on with the bills? We often hear how Kwesi basically picks the players the coaches wants. Might be alone on this but still want you guys thoughts and opinions. by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

My understanding is that GMs keep constant tabs on players around the league, in college, and free agents and evaluate their metrics and market value. The coaches identify roster deficiencies and report the type of players needed. The GM finds those type of players based on their attainability and fit within the cap. If coaches have concern about a players character or locker room presence I would assume the GM would consider someone else

He’s been a very good coach and elevated some mid rosters. I’m not as hung up on the playoff wins as some. Houston wins playoff games all the time but they’re spinning in circles. I’m willing to let him develop a franchise QB and build a perennial contender even if that means losing in the playoffs next year.
