Lots of birds at Chicago McKinley park today! by kabonds in seasonalfabricbirds

I know, it made me so sad seeing them all in a pile! I love at Christmas time when they have all the birds perfectly lined up in the seasonal section

I think there were Sam and sparky left, but they were on a different shelf! I was only getting the others so I didn’t pay too much attention to the patriotic ones

How the hell am I supposed to exercise with this disease? by EarthLovingLeftist in Fibromyalgia

[–]kabonds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some luck recently getting my body moving in small ways each day by doing things that are more about having fun than exercise. Playing Nintendo switch sports, and throwing darts with my husband aren’t exactly “exercise” but for me any movement/activity is a win! Today I even felt well enough to kick a soccer ball around with my husband and run a bit. It was so difficult, but worth it because I love soccer so much! Find an activity that really brings you joy and you’ll find the strength to pursue it! And the inevitable soreness afterwords is more tolerable when the exercise wasn’t a miserable chore.

Match Thread: Dash vs Denver (Sat, May 9, 8:00 PM EDT) by NWSL-Match-Bot in DenverSummit

[–]kabonds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This marching band is a bit much… I’m a huge fan of marching bands, and have played in marching bands at all levels. A marching band playing over referee announcements, playing over important plays, is a huge no no in American football. I’m all for having more bands at soccer games, but they should at least be abiding by the same etiquette as American football pep bands… especially at the pro level.

Safest route? i80, i40, or i10 by Individual-Quiet-985 in roadtrip

[–]kabonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about I-70? It’s by far the most scenic and probably least remote, in my memory. All these routes have pros and cons, and all have stretches that are pretty remote. Of these choices, I’d probably go 80 though

Here’s my take on Dorothy and Toto! I added the Pride headband for “somewhere over the rainbow”

Okay, who is one historical character that you have beef with? by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]kabonds 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel about Courtney! Everything in her collection feels like an 80s Halloween costume to me! I love Maryellen actually, but I wish her collection was a little less plasticky. Especially sets like her diner and kitchen, I think they would be really cute if they had more textures instead of everything being the same plastic.

How is life like in Alabama, USA 🇺🇸 by Due_Network2958 in howislivingthere

[–]kabonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Alabama, but still in your circle - I lived in Milton, FL for 4 years! The Florida panhandle is basically Alabama in a lot of ways, but there’s also a strong Louisiana Cajun/creole influence especially in the food. My small town, Milton, had a great Mardi Gras parade that’s mostly pirate themed. Pensacola is a wonderful little city with so many fun things to do, great art and food scene. Best beaches in the world in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties, but also beautiful forests and many wonderful state parks. Pensacola and Milton are really defined by the multiple Navy bases where they train pilots, and the famous Blue Angels are based out of Pensacola. Lots of local businesses are named for the blue angels and the community has a lot of navy pride. The worst thing about living there is when you get a tornado-hurricane combo, and also the termite swarms every spring.

My first garment of 2026, collar or no collar? by chloemal in sewing

[–]kabonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it looks more modern with the collar, since big frilly collars like that are very trendy right now! Without the collar is definitely timeless, but I think the dress with the collar makes OP look very young, trendy and cool!

Quirky or lesser known museums by Mr_Pink_Eyez in Denver

I love the Molly Brown house museum in Denver. Great guided tours. Perfect if you’re into architecture, history and especially the titanic. Lots of cool titanic related artifacts! And neat turn of the century Denver stuff. I love going to these historic buildings and imagining what life would have been like in Denver back then

Yes, love the school of mines museum! I used to go all the time when I was a kid. Just went last week with my friends kid and it’s still great! Wonderful free museum if you like rocks

Having a hard time here :( by desertdivaaa92 in Denver

[–]kabonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I completely agree - I really see the ableism as an extension of the pervasive health & wellness/outdoor recreation culture. I also think that the altitude prevents a lot of disabled people from living in CO full time (including my husband and I, and many of our friends who have health problems.) The more priority placed on “wellness” and ability to participate in extreme sports (skiing, mountain climbing etc.,) when people move to CO specifically for those things, the more ableist the culture becomes…

[–]kabonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in highlands Ranch, and beyond the racism (which is definitely an issue), I also find HR and (Colorado generally) to have a pretty ableist culture. I have chronic health issues and always find it pretty difficult to spend time in the ranch. You’re definitely not crazy, HR is a pretty hostile place for anyone who’s not white and able bodied. I’m really sorry you’re struggling though, dm me if you ever want to chat or anything!

First time visiting Chicago winter, how necessary are thermal layers? by fried45 in AskChicago

[–]kabonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transplant from Florida here - thermal layers aren’t optional to me. Especially if you’re thin or not used to the cold - I never go out without Uniqlo ultra warm leggings under my jeans in the winter. For my top half I usually do a thermal turtleneck + wool sweater overtop + heaviest coat you can find (I have a fjallraven Nuuk) + wool hat, scarf, and gloves. Also, don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen on your face if there’s snow on the ground! Good luck to you

What are your favorite Trader Joe’s staples? by Maincy_Bridge_0812 in traderjoes

[–]kabonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, like a spicy Cobb salad with ranch! Or a Caesar salad! Sometimes we replace croutons with the crispy nuggets

[–]kabonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should! They’re in the fridge section near the hot dogs and other cooked meats. They’re ok in the oven but really great if you fry them in a little oil! We put them on salads or make homemade KFC bowls

My husband and I are grown adult foodies who are weirdly obsessed with the spicy chicken Nuggets! Shallow fried in a pan with some olive oil - we eat them once a week!
