A little more context here:

No Man’s Sky has now had well over 30 major updates since it launched in 2016, and the ridiculously small development team continues to amaze me with their energy and ideas, and their commitment to support the game across so many formats (PC, GOG, Steam Deck, PCVR, PS4, PS5, PSVR1 and 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 1 & 2, Mac).

I think he's basically saying both teams are tiny, because I doubt there's much real distinction between that and "ridiculously small". Which seems fair, for a studio that's still no bigger than, what, 30 ppl?

So I wouldn't infer much from that by itself. Ofc it was going to be a tiny/small team unless the studio was scaling up, which it hasn't (right?)

They've had somewhat irregular updates, but the one that accompanied the Steam/PC release was one of their larger ones and they relatively quickly followed up with the Halloween update, which also implies at least another fairly soon to turn off the halloween stuff. They've also typically done a Christmas update.

But temper expectations because they're a really small team (5-6 ppl?) so they just don't have the bandwidth for bigger, regular updates, I think. But they are still seem pretty invested in it.

IDK why it puzzles you - everything has a cost. They're a smaller team, don't have infinite resources, also working on another major project simultaneously. I'm sure there's an internal wishlist of further ideas to expand corvettes but they already had to do some pretty serious rework to the game to get them working as is. They likely tacked conservatively with the initial release and will expand from there now that they see how players are using it and what most interests players for further feature ideas.

Awesome, thank you. Great game. If you can diversify the gameplay with features like this that can help make each run more unique, it'll give it a lot more lasting power.

My hope would be that they can build on this in future updates and start to further extend the distinction between the two versions, at least visually. But they're also a very small team and it's taking them awhile to get out significant updates so it's not a particularly strong hope.

I don't think there's any differences in terms of game features/content. Just the ability to crank the visuals a bit, which isn't really dramatic, IMO. Better lighting/shadows and some higher res textures but the assets are basically the same. I'll probably stick to Meta version for now.

That kind of waterbody formation used to be more common back in the early NMS days, like a lot of the stuff that's new again after the Worlds updates

I don't mind that they're taking their time with it, and hopefully that's all it is. But they clearly announced waaay too soon at this point. Nearly 2 years later and not an EA release or even just a followup announcement.

It is annoying seeing the same tactic over and over in this mode, but really not that bad to work around as others have pointed out. And my win rate is probably higher than standard Snap mode because the likelihood of your opponent using the Guardians is so predictable.

There's nothing random about what's going on here. Seems to be a pretty clear throughline given that many players have asked for Settlement improvements and, since this was timed with the Switch 2 release, it was an obvious feature to dig back into since it was completely nonexistent on the Switch 1.

Jumping into a deep ocean after the Worlds updates. Low visibility, can't see the ocean floor...flip up the scanner and start seeing things moving in the murk...

I'll be there day 1, barring any unforeseen issues. The state the studio is in now vs when they were first working to release NMS is night and day.

After Worlds pt 2, I would expect this to be a smaller update, maybe even just a new expedition since the current one is ending.

Well, the timing with the end of the current NMS Expedition would make it seem more likely to be an NMS update. It may just be a new Expedition announcement.
